Ben Calhoun is a stereotypical middle-aged, white, hardcore patriot/christian. His last name is derived from John C. Calhoun, who is a super conservative in the time of Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War. John C. Calhoun is best known for as someone who defended the concept of slavery, who considered himself a patriot for protecting traditional values, and eventually helping to create the Confederate States of America. Ben is taken from Ben Carson, former republican hopeful for the Republican nomination. Ben Carson is a hardcore conservative christian. He is quoted as saying, "Marriage is between a man and a woman. Ben Calhoun will be publishing this review onto his blog, and it will also be featured onto the online version of the Dallas Morning News. Ben Calhoun caters to hardcore christians. His audience more often than not is mostly comprised of conservative people. People who would frequent Fox and take individuals such as Bill O'Reilly and Glenn Beck as messiahs in their search for a moral compass as to what to think and believe. He utilizes inflammatory comments in order to garner more views. Ben Calhoun isn’t dumb, in fact he was valedictorian of his High School. He knows that he doesn’t necessarily have to say things that people will like to hear, and knows that if he tackles more controversial topics, then he will be viewed as a strong individual who isn't scared to handle tough and controversial topics. Providing a catchy title that references the movie in some form and also provides a general opinion to the audience as to whether or not the movie is good. I also provided a provocative picture with the review on top. It was done in order to force the readers to notice the film review, and entice them to read it. The Dallas Morning News in general is more sophisticated than other newspapers and so utilizes more formal language. The review does utilize formal language, but it also contains informal language. That is done because Ben Calhoun will be utilizing Pathos as his primary weapon to convince the audience. The film review also contains general information about the movie, such as the release date, name of the director, names of the most prominent actors featured, and also the MPAA rating. The film review also provides a quick synopsis at the beginning in order to provide a general overview of the movie. It is done in order to give readers a chance to make their own assumptions about the movie before reading the film critic's opinion of it. Also what occurs often, is that the critic will include a list of positives and negatives about the movie, even if said critic believes taht the movie is not worth watching.
