The media in today’s society has a great impact on how we all perceive the world. We are the type of people who like to be motivated and influenced by what we watch. Most of us have no idea that the media has persuaded our beliefs on people’s cultures. For my research I am going to focus on the film Babel on the ways cultures are being represented and how these representations are harmful. I will use Content analysis and Semiotic analysis for each example to get to the overall picture covering the Ideological analysis. Director’s point of view I will start by explaining about the director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu. Nathan Gardels did an interview with the director of this film and he tried to understand what the main goal was. According …show more content…
He does not want to misrepresent cultures, but teach others about the other cultures. He decided to film this movie from each of the minorities’ countries. This film was filmed in four different countries, it uses six different languages which allow us to read the subtitles. As I focused on Inarritu’s interview responses I noticed that he contradicts himself. He wants to show us the point of views of others, but later on he states that the film confirms what the average American has already been able to experience through the T.V screen without crossing the border. From that response he is asked another question and he goes back to explain how he tried hard to see what was important for the characters’, his main goal was to maintain dignity for all the …show more content…
A review I found by Evanston_dad “I am in the minority on this film. I found it to be tedious and exhausting, and the effort I put into sticking with it far outweighed any sense of closure I received from it.” We can tell this person was not a big fan of the movie since they rated 6 out of 10. They felt that the film was too long and slow with no sense in it. However, towards the end of the review he discusses on the director “There's no nuance here; Inarritu pounds his message into you. For example, he obviously feels strongly about the mistreatment of illegal immigrants, especially those from Mexico, but instead of engaging in an intelligent debate about the topic, he sets up such an implausible, not to mention one-sided, scenario in this film that you can't help but agree with him.” People can feel this movie only focuses on one side of the story, this is different from what the director intended to do. There are many ways one can interpret this movie. Some might feel there is no hope and some find it heartbreaking to see how the minorities are
In my eyes I loved the book I rate it a 9/10, its had a good twist and turn to it. I loved this
...m gave the film 4 out 5 stars, stating that the film “is what one might call dry”(Seaver). Although both reviewers point flaws on the film they do however admire the unique style used by Hamer.
For the most part, reviews are positive and praise this film. I completely agree with them, this film informed me of an issue I wasn’t even aware had occurred. Before watching this film and taking this class, I was naive, I believed that after we had gained our supposedly “equal rights” everything was okay. Now, I have realized the struggles Chicanos have had to face, my eyes have been opened to these injustices and made me aware that many are still occurring today. This film and class has inspired me to take action against these injustices and stand up for what I believe in.
...uld lead one to believe that the Latinas have made no progress whatsoever in the films. However, these representations will take many years to reverse and it will be very difficult for the Latinas to create a new image for themselves because of the existing perceptions that people have. In order to achieve this, Latinas must become an active force in the movement against the negative representation. Their voice and expressions of disapproval may force the filmmakers and industry to reevaluate the harmful stereotypes that they utilize.
The book and the movie were both very good. The book took time to explain things like setting, people’s emotions, people’s traits, and important background information. There was no time for these explanations the movie. The book, however, had parts in the beginning where some readers could become flustered.
This essay will be explaining the definition of sociology, the sociological factors of obesity using Symbolic Interactionism Theory and the Functionalism Theory and a description of the medical condition obesity and how it may affect individuals suffering from it.
Also, as immigrant this affects Zainab and Mauna, because it allows them to see the injustice and the oppression in immigration system. The film illustrates how society labels illegal immigrants as outside the norm, marginalized Tarek. Immigrant are being deported and exposed to the injustice system.
This film definetly deserves five out of five stars, as the of plot of this film which is based on a true story is excellent, the actors behind the characters are marvelous, and the inclusion of appropriate music and sound effects brilliantly enhance the emotion and mood of the story. Designed for a mass audience of various ages, I would definetly not hesitate to recommend this movie to a friend, and neither will
was a spectacular film there were some things that I did not enjoy like, the
The documentary is about a homeless undocumented girl, Izucar but the documentary film also seeks other issues like poverty, domestic violence, child labor and suicide. Throughout the film, Izucar speaks directly to the camera as she discusses her family, memories and
...r, this movie is lack of depth of storyline. The audiences can even predict what will happen in the next scenes. Moreover, the ending of this movie is too cheesy and irrational according to me. If only they change the ending to become more interesting and rational, I will give a four or five stars out of five. In spite of a lame twist ending, this movie is a perfect example to show that managers should be able to motivate and challenge their employee. It is important to remember that a happy employee means a productive employee.
I have to disagree with both these reviews. I believed that the story was brilliantly written and the cinematography was beautiful. This movie touched me and had me in tears which believe me is hard to do. I do agree with the New York Times and New Yorker that it was a little dragged out and that Kiera Knightly acting was over rated. Other than that I would defiantly recommend this movie.
At first I didn’t know what to really expect from taking an online sociology class for class. To be completely honest, I thought I would be reading a lot of boring articles and then writing about them. It turned out that I was wrong. I was able to see what sociology pertains to and how it relates to our lives. It’s funny to think that almost everything in your life is controlled by someone else. Your interests, hobbies, and even clothes aren’t really solely your decision. You may be thinking “no way I am being influenced and I make all of my decisions consciously” but in fact that is not the case.
To most, it’s very easy to imagine how it would feel to grow up without much of anything in life. Hell...I can tell you first hand what it feels like to not have a decent pair of shoes or pants without holes in them, or old “hand-me-down” toys while most of the kids you know have “state-of-the-art” toys. To many children in this kind of situation, it seems like a very bleak world to live in. No child should ever have to experience this kind of life. However, due to ignorant parents and an even more jacked-up government, there are many children that will always be in this predicament.
In conclusion this essay was successful in arguing a case against global cultural imperialism by highlighting on some of the major disadvantages of global cultural imperialism. The role of global mass media was also noted in fueling global cultural imperialism. Notwithstanding the existence cultural imperialism a need still arises to address it. As shown above France tries to counter the problem by increasing the exposure of local content to its young citizens. However, to a greater extent responsibility lies with each and every youth on what to receive from and what to abstain from global media in a bid to preserve one’s identity and culture. Socratic’s three rules come in handy, respect others, know yourself and be sincere.
