Intelligence and psychological testing
Define measurement of intelligence
Measure of intelligence is the ability
Don’t take our word for it - see why 10 million students trust us with their essay needs.
Just as a fish can 't climb a tree as well as a monkey, and a monkey cant swim as well as a fish; everyone learns differently. Each person on the earth is unique and has their own way of processing information. Wouldn’t it make sense that every person learns differently? Throughout your years in a public education system you are taught to memorize information and replicate it. This is what measures your intelligence, your grade point average. But it isn’t a proper way to measure intelligence or a proper way to to determine who’s smart and who isn’t. Not that someone who excels in school isn’t smart, it’s that the education system is failing to recognize the intelligent people who don 't learn the same as others and don 't excel in school. So ask yourself, “What does it mean to be smart?” …show more content…
If we change the way our education systems to teacher than we give more people the potential to excell and more inteligent people there are the better the world wil become. The better the economy will become. If the education system changes to system based upon each and every persons learning style then upcoming students will have an overall better education. If I were rivleged enough to learn topics I previously struggled in a different manner than I can only believe I would do better. For example if I was taught any mathetmathics topics in a pratical and anaylatic way I would excel. Rather than if a tacher taught the class in creative way. This is one of the many reasons why I struggeled in classes such as art and math and did well in classes such as english/history and chemistry. I think the enducation system needs a revision and untill then the potentional of students wont be understood and reached. Being smart is the ability for you and you soley to understand and process information in your on unqier way. Grades and test dont establish that, real life events
To be intelligent means to be able to apply what we learned in school and use what we learned in our everyday life to achieve a goals that is sit or one that we are accomplishing without knowing. Many people think that a person is intelligent because they went to a university, got a degree, and have a good paying job, so they must be smart and know everything however thats not always true. If we would ask a teacher or professor the chances of them knowing how to fix a car are slim. So why do we think teachers are so intelligent? We think teachers are intelligent because they know everything about their subjects, know how to teach it and know how to apply their knowledge to their everyday lives.
In “Hidden Intellectualism”, author and professor Gerald Graff describes his idea of what book smarts and streets smarts actually are. He details how new ideas can help to teach and build our educational system into something great and that perhaps street smarts students could be the factor that traditional education is missing that could make it great.
“Hidden Intellectualism” written by Gerald Graff, is a compelling essay that presents the contradicting sides of “book smarts” and “street smarts” and how these terms tied in to Graff’s life growing up. Graff felt like the school was at fault that the children with more “street smarts” were marked with the reputation of being inadequate in the classroom. Instead of promoting the knowledge of dating, cars, or social cues, the educational system deemed them unnecessary. Gerald Graff thought that “street smarts” could help people with academics. In his essay, Graff confessed that despite his success as an “intellect” now, he was the exact opposite until college. Where he grew up in Chicago, Illinois, intelligence was looked down upon around peers
Students and teachers are both stuck, and in order to have a successful school system we must have happy teacher. To bring exciting lesson plans and less bored students, we need happy teachers, in order to have happy teachers the government needs to allow teachers to teach how they
Some students simply do not test well, others try their hardest and still cannot reach the impracticable standards set for them. The individuals who create these tests do not understand the pressures of being a student, or the struggle to answer thirty-five questions in a compressed time period. One test cannot accurately measure the intelligence of a student.
Anselm’s classical ontological argument is criticized precisely for its attempt to define God into existence. The argument is deductive and its form known as reduction ad absurdum. “That is, it begins with a supposition S (suppose that the greatest conceivable being exist in the mind alone) that is contradictory to what one desires to prove” (Pojman 41). In other words, the argument attempts to show a contradiction or absurdity in the opposite view in order to claim his own view is correct.
Since it emphasizes that you don 't have to be book smart in order to succeed in life, this example of people not caring, and are not book smart, but they are unexpectedly geniuses, exist all over the world.as the great Shakespeare stated, “A fool thinks himself to be wise, but a wise man knows himself to be a fool” (Shakespeare). This Quote explains that a fool thinks he is smart, while a wise man knows he is a fool, as it supports Graff’s point of view. This quote and the idea of not being book smart applies to my best friend. He was a genius, he could build computers, write the best essays, score an A on a test without listening to the teacher or studying, but he wasn 't interested in going to college, he didn 't care for school intellectualism, he hated the system and called it trash. It took me a while and a lot of arguments to realize you don 't have to be smart in order to be something
The colonization of America began when many colonists and settlers from emigrated from Europe and began to settle into the North American colonies. Many came to the North American colonies to look for the opportunity of wealth by conquering and ruling land. Throughout the years, the transformation of the country changed drastically and experienced an era of remarkable growth. As the approach to the 18th century became closer, British America had developed a method of ruling and government in the North American Colonies and with time, America would want fight for their independence from the British. One key event that supported the move toward American Independence included the publication of an influential pamphlet, Common Sense, written by Thomas Paine. Common Sense highlighted the importance in conquering independence from Britain and gave colonists the devotion and self-fulfillment to keep fighting and achieving self-government.
The point of education is to gain knowledge. That knowledge will help people progress in life and that will lead to a growing society. Throughout the years education became competitive and was less about gaining knowledge and more about getting a better score on standardized tests. In the article How the Myth of Meritocracy Ruins Students by Erica Etelson, she explains how the education system is becoming more and more competitive and if there is not a change it will slowly make the education system worst. Her main argument of the article is that the idea that success should be based on ability and talent of individuals is wrong because success should not be based on ability and talent of individuals. Etelson backs up her argument by explaining to the reader about the pressure students are under, how competitiveness is causing a problem, and why things need to change. The education system needs to change so that students can go back to gaining knowledge and grow rather than compete for the best test score.
Conscious growth has been the central focus of my life for many years. I study what it means to grow and how we can deliberately invite, process, and integrate new growth experiences.
The education system has been a controversial issue among educators. Requirements of school do not let student choose what they want to study for their future. It’s a big issue to force student study specific curriculums, which don’t help them improve, and what they like to create something. Educators choose a general system for education to all students which based on general knowledge. Intelligent or genius students have to be in that system of education, which doesn’t let them improve their creativity. Educators attempt to change that system to make it better, but their changing was not that great to be an example for the world. Also, did that change qualify education system to compete other systems or not? In some examples and reasons have been made me agree with some of points from Gatto’s and Edmunson’s and disagree them.
We were taught in elementary school that if we study then well do perfect on tests, the only problem is we were never really taught how to study the ways that benefits us best. We were never taught what methods of studying help you on tests and how to make the material stick in your mind so you won’t just forget. That’s why the study of metacognition and multiple intelligence is now being used in classrooms and at home to better prepare the student for upcoming tests. Metacognition is being able to take charge, be aware and understand your own learning and thought process. Multiple intelligence is the theory that people aren’t born dumb but that they have naturally inherited sections of intelligence that aren’t realized in the brains of everyone.
For the sociologist , however, what is real , taken for granted in a given society may not be so in another.
It is needed to define intelligence before defining artificial intelligence. Intelligence is thinking and reasoning, perceiving and evaluating of perceived things, commenting and concluding them (Kayabaş, 2010). Artificial intelligence is general name of computer system studies which aim to fulfill the role needing high mental operations like learning from experiences, to reason, to interpret, to generalize. All these abilities belong to only people who are assumed the most intelligence creature in the universe. Also the movements and the behaviors of animals are considered a reference.
John W. Gardner said, “Much education today is monumentally ineffective. All too often we are giving young people cut flowers when we should be teaching them to grow their own plants.” Education today is very ineffective. It is in an in between phase of the ways of old and a time of complete reform. The main issue is that people often lose sight of why the education system should even be reformed. It shouldn’t be reformed because “that’s what everyone else is doing.” It needs to be reformed to bridge the gap for the students who have a different learning style. It should be reformed to expand knowledge for students. Education reform can have good and bad effects. Because the education system is very complex, educators are being faced with changes and they must decide what is best for students.
