Being Bilingual Analysis

Being bilingual is a benefit that I possess that others may not hold. I am fluent in speaking Spanish and can interact with the Spanish speaking population. To my advantage, speaking two languages has allowed me to get a higher pay than an average person. A strength that sets me apart from anyone else is that I can empathize with others. I am able to put myself in their situation and understand their point of view. Without empathy, conflict resolution would not be possible. I have been told that I have a strong work ethic. I always arrive to work on time and commit to finish everyday tasks. I care about quality and try to do best I can. My verbal communication skills are not that great and its something that I am trying to improve. Speaking in front of others has always been something I struggled with. People say that a weakness of mine is that I am way too nice, because of that people tend to take advantage. My bosses took advantage in a way that they would give me more work to do because I would finish it quicker than others but still got paid the same. I’m not sure if this is considered a negative work habit but after doing some self-reflection, I noticed that if I don’t like my workplace environment I tend to just quit and look for a new job. I know that job-hopping is not good because is shows that a person is not committed to staying at one job but I have really bad luck where I always get harassed at the job I’m at. This semester I learned about LinkedIn and how putting your resume on their for others to view can potentially lead to a new job. I feel that a person can take advantage of the market by seeing the types of job that are in need. For example, back in my hometown they were low on nursing assistants, because I knew that, I went ahead to go get my CNA certification and was able to find a job really quick. I don’t have a huge network of contacts but I do have a personal connect that always helps me. My mentor was the one who introduced me to this major, and because of her I found out what I really wanted to do in college. I currently live in a community where there are no recycling bins and I personally thought this was a problem. I went ahead and contacted my leasing office and explained to them that there were water bottles laying around by the pool, and along side the grass and offered a solution of having a recycling program. To my surprise, they did it. Threats I recently had a coworker compete with me to get a promotion but I didn’t take her as a threat or competition because I knew that I had much more to offer especially with speaking two
