If you were to ask a friend or family member to describe me, they would probably say that I am hard working, outgoing, an outdoorsman, and an overall amazing friend. Ever since I was a little kid, I have always been a hard worker. For example, I would always go above and beyond what was required for a project that was due in grade school. Whether it was a diorama, and a report about iguanas, or a poster on Jackie Robinson, I would always put way more work into the project thatn was actually needed. This work ethic has stuck with me all the way into college, and I consider my work ethicit to be one of my best qualities. The second word someone would use to describe me would be outgoing, which is funny since while I consider myself to be outgoing …show more content…
Thirdly, my friends and family would consider me to be an outdoorsman. When I’m not at GVSU studying or sitting through lecture, you’ll find me out in the woods enjoying the great outdoors. Whether I’m out turkey hunting in the spring, or waterfowl hunting in the fall, hunting has grown to be one of my favorite hobbies. There’s something about being outdoors that is soothing to me. When I’m out in the woods, all of the stress piling up from school disappears, and I’m able to be alone with my thoughts in God’s great outdoors. Lastly, my friends and family would say that I’m a wonderful friend. I hold Mmy friends and family are two aspects I hold most dearmost dearly in my life. I was fortunate enough to find my four best friends back in pre-school, and to this day we remain each other’s best friends. I also have an awesome relationship with both sides of my family, and they have been incredibly supportive of my studies and they are truly loving people. In conclusion, all of these traits have molded me into the man I have become today, and will continue to be used in my journey toward becoming a research …show more content…
While conducting research I will spend countless hours in the lab working with the same group of people. In order to work effectively everyone has to be able to get along. For instance, if everyone working on the research project were to continuously argue and fight non-stop, nothing would ever be accomplished. Those who have worked with me say that I am easy-going, and that I treat everyone as if they were my best friend. This has enabled me to work very well as part of a team. Last but not least, I’d consider hard work and dedication to be my greatest strengths. At a young age I learned that if you I want something, you I need to work hard for it. I have kept this mentality all the way through college. For example, this semester I want to get a 4.0. In order to accomplish this, I have put in countless hours studying for my classes. The hard work and dedication that I have used in my studies, I will continue to use as a research scientist. Whether that means being the first one in the lab and the last one out, or coming in on a Saturday or Sunday in order to complete the testsexperiments, I will put in the work needed to become a distinguished research

Although the way I display shows that I am hard-working, I do not want other people to know that. I afraid that they will think that I am a nerd. When I was a young girl, my older brother always did very well in school and he and the rest of our family were always very proud of his work. As I grew older and noticed all of my brother’s achievements I decided that I wanted to not only achieve what he had, but to also achieve things that he had not. These traits have helped me to accomplish many career and educational goals as well as helped me to develop long lasting relationships that have sustained me up until the last year. It seems that hard work and determination are essential in accomplishing almost any goal that a leader sets their sights on. It is my hope that these characteristics will help me to persevere through the difficult times that life and school will thrust upon me. Thus I hope to use my strengths to help me steer the course of my educational and personal goals thus learning how to lead others and myself through turbulent times with grace and dignity. Consequently, my biggest weaknesses and hindrances in leading myself and others are my stubbornness and hesitation to recognize when I am wrong. Good leaders need to know when to admit they are wrong thus allowing them to reevaluate the situation and ask for help if needed. It seems that effective leaders know where their weaknesses lie and can ask for help when needed. This helps them to effectively achieve tasks leading towards long term goals because they know what they can and cannot do. I tend to be a control freak and want to do everything myself, and this is not an effective way to lead. I will need to learn to trust and rely on others to pull
