Being Afraid of Public Speaking.
After interviewing ten women of different ages, nine out of these ten say they are afraid of speaking in public. The one who was not afraid of public speaking said she has to speak to a large number of people daily on her job. She explained she used to be afraid when she had first gotten the job, but after doing it for a long period of time, it has become natural to her. Public speaking is different for everyone, but most are terrified of speaking in public. The women explain what makes them afraid to speak in public, how they eliminate their fears, what qualities they look for in a speaker, and their effectiveness as a public speaker themselves. Most of the women say they would go out of their way to avoid speaking in public because they are shy or scared of being judged by strangers. They would often start to lose focus on what they were speaking about as they focused on everyone looking at them. Most felt they were being judged because they weren’t speaking loud enough, the way they looked, and even that the audience wasn’t interested in what they were talking about. Though, three-fourths of the women said they never speak to a large group of people, for example, giving a speech at a conference. Most of the women thought public speaking meant getting in front of a group of people and giving a speech. They did not know that simply posting on a social media sites or talking to one or more people would be considered public speaking. After they realized that, most said they speak in public daily. A lot using the form of social media, but other would talk to their teachers or the teachers of their children, to classmates, to people in the super market, and to people at their jobs.
