Knowledge is the only thing in this life that cannot be taken away. Therefore the quest to gain knowledge should never truly end. After taking a small hiatus from school, I am ready to begin my journey towards obtaining a Masters degree in Mental Health Counseling. Obtaining this degree will put me one step closer towards my dream of becoming an art therapist. As an art therapist I would be able to combine my love of art and psychology to help children who are unable, or find it difficult to communicate verbally. The first step towards my dream of becoming an art therapist is to obtain my Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling and become a licensed mental health counselor. I believe that Stetson University would be the perfect fit for helping me obtain this goal. What really draws me to Stetson University are the small classes, outstanding faculty, and beautiful campus. Until then, I believe that a Master’s in Mental Health counseling, paired with the play therapy certificate, I will achieve my dream of helping children who find it hard to express themselves verbally.

To be successful in the field of counseling, the counselor needs to posses a willingness and passion to help others. As a child of adoption, I have always had a yearning to help those who cannot help themselves. I believe this desire comes from the kindness of my adoptive parents who took me in and provided for me when my own birth mother was unable to. I have always admired their selflessness and strive to be like them every day.
