As humans, we all struggle in many ways, and that includes me. Throughout the seventeen years I have lived, I have learned many things. Challenges have passed through my path of succeeding, but I learn how to live and learn from those mistakes/problems. Many strengths and weaknesses have built up as each day comes along whether it’s communication, teamwork, or even being too sensitive. How will this affect me? It will affect me in my future path of becoming a registered nurse (RN). I have set my mind to control all these actions as each problem comes along. Being too sensitive would have to be the action I would lack the most. I admit, I do take some things for personal, but who doesn’t, right? We are all humans. As I start predicting my future, I let myself know that this has to change, and I can’t stay like this forever. Since as my job as a nurse, I will have patients that will be rude and stubborn or lovely and joyful. Some days co-workers won’t be having a good day, and bring all their problems to …show more content…
This is why I strive to go to college and practice as well as learn as much as I can for my path of Nursing at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Since, I know that I won’t be a perfect nurse, and there will be days where I will need help or ask questions to see if what I am doing is being done correctly. Even if it’s withdrawing blood from a patient, taking their vital signs, and overall just be giving patient care. I will learn until I know I have it 100%. Like my father has always told me “You learn something new every day.” However enough with weaknesses, but let’s go into my strengths. Teamwork is something that I really enjoy doing, some might say it’s a waste of time, but I see it as an advantage to learn from others. Whether it's advertising an object, science projects, or reports, I learn. The same way I will be learning from the people around me within the
I believe my biggest strength as a nursing student is my attention to detail. In all of my assignments I take extra time to ensure that my work has gone above and beyond what is expected. This will also be true with my patients. I want to ensure that I am giving my patients the best
A nurse practitioner (NP) is one who is qualified to treat certain medical conditions without the direct supervision of a doctor. Also known as a registered nurse. (RN)
Advanced practice registered nurses play a significant part in extending access to health care by providing primary care and specialty care services to clients. Advanced practices registered are mentors, educators, researchers, and administrators. According to Health Resources and Services Administration, “Ninety-six percent of the NP workforce reported being in clinical practice, providing direct patient care” (Health Resources and Services Administration 2016). Furthermore, “Nearly three percentages were in faculty positions and approximately one percent was in administrative positions”(Health Resources and Services Administration 2016).
Everyday in this world, elderly, adults, teens or children become ill or get into accidents and need medical attention. Whether these elderly, adults, teens or children are taken to a hospital, pediatrician, specialist, or clinic, a doctor and a nurse will tend to them. The nurse plays a role that is just as important as the doctor. Nurses work very closely with the families as part of the caring process. Every member of the family plays a role in different ways. The nurses are there to help the patient as well as the family step through the illness or injury. They provide information for the prevention of future illness and injury, and help to comfort the patient and his/her family. It is vital that a nurse understands that to be a nurse, you need a certain personality and understanding of the field.
My journey to finally realizing of becoming a student in this RN Executive Program has been a long journey filled with excitement and disappointing periods. I 've started this quest in the Summer of 2015 and here I am, two years later, starting my first class in the program, Nursing 301.
Although I have significant experience in these areas there are others that I have not had the chance to grow in. I am aware that I need development in some critical care areas. Cardiac drips and ventilator settings are a few examples of things that I have general knowledge of, but do not see on a regular basis. Growing in knowledge and skills is a daily task for a nurse. Every day I learn something new and continue to grow in my leadership skills. This is an area that I believe I have the opportunity to continue to develop. Additionally, there are times when I could do a better job at delegating rather than trying to accomplish everything on my own. I am not afraid to ask for help when I need it, but there are times that I could be more efficient by requesting a task be completed by another
Each individual gets to a point in life whereby they assess their internal qualities, people reflect their profession aspirations and attempt to see which careers will make them happy in their lives. It is also important for a person to consider whether they have the qualities needed for a particular profession and also consider the available resources that will help him or her reach their set goals (Chafey, Rhea, Shannon, & Spencer, (1998). Every human being has weaknesses and strengths in their personal or professional aspirations. Having strength means that someone has the physical and mental power to perform things in a successful manner. On the other hand, weaknesses are the drawbacks, the inadequate lack of strength or power to accomplish important goals in life, and every human has some potential of being a leader in some way (American Association of Critical Care Nurses (2006). This paper will discuss the outcome results inventory on the nurse as a manager, it illustrates personal strength and weaknesses in relation to personal life and professional aspirations. The paper will also discuss planning for career, disciplines in personal expedition, practice
My experience with an older nurse during my practicum at Langley Memorial Hospital, along with the results of the LSI and LCS, have given me the insight to critically examine both my advantages and faults as a learner who values teamwork. In the conclusion of this essay, I will develop a plan that not only addresses my effective learning abilities, but also areas
In the near future my goal is to further my studies; in the nursing field as a Registered nurse. Personally, my main objectives to become a Registered nurse are, to help save the lives of other, accomplishing my goal, and living life more independently. These are the qualities that would best describe personality: enthusiastic, loving, caring, compassionate, honest, and a cheerful individual. I grow up to have deep passionate love for people, especially those that are unable to help themselves on a daily basis. I always vision myself attending to someone’s rescue; that is in danger or in critical condition. What I have noticed from a long time ago; is that the nursing industry is one out of many that devotes their time, patient, and input hard work and effort to help meet the need of others and make a difference.
When gaining experience as a new nurse it is hard to stand out from others in the workplace environment. To be a great nurse you need knowledge, passion, and perseverance. Perseverance allows nurses to shine and prove themselves to their bosses as well. It shows that as a nurse you are willing to work harder and achieve more for the patients. In this type of career being on your toes and focusing is also, very important. By allowing yourself to have perseverance is allowing yourself to strive to do better every day at work. By allowing instructors to teach perseverance to nursing students and new nurses it allows them to build and recognize what they need to succeed over others. By having that little piece of knowledge over others, it allows nurses to begin their path on a stronger note than

“Lifelong learning is attitudinal; that one can and should be open to new ideas, decisions, skills or behaviors” (Geinare, p. 7, 2012). Staying up with current practices and the evolving changes in health care there will always be opportunities to learn and to grown both professionally and personally. It is essential for nurses to maintain their competences within the basics of nurses as well as their specialty. Maintaining flexibility in the approach to teach others such as students, peers, and other clinical staff educators must meet the diverse needs to accommodate everyone. Within the past four years I have be able to accomplish goals that felt impossible to reach. Keeping positive people, a good attitude, and believe in myself have all contributes to my success which I will continue over the course of my career as a Nurse Educator. I foresee a bright future for myself and have shared wit you on how I plan to achieve my short terms goals as well as long term
The career i chose is a branch of the medical field. I chose a career in nursing, more specifically the career path of a registered nurse. This career consists of providing care for people of all ages and helping them with managing their conditions. I chose this career because my mother is an rn and my family has a strong presence in the medical field. It is important to understand the education or training requirements, skills, or talents needed, salary, benefits offered, and the duties for a particular career when making this decision.
Caring for people is a prerequisite for becoming a nurse. This can often be effortless and second nature but then there are other times where caring for someone is not always the easiest thing to do. You see it in the frustrated mom of the two-year-old who is throwing a temper tantrum in Target. Or the nurse of a patient who presses his call light frequently for seemingly insignificant things. Caring takes patience. With nursing, in particular, you need to feel called to the profession. You need to feel as though nursing is something you desperately have to do. As if you would be disobeying or cheating if you did not become a nurse. This calling can come from many different places or people, but for me, it comes from the Holy Spirit. Throughout my life, I would get so excited going to the doctor’s office or the hospital. I longed to stay and discover parts of the hospital I had not had the pleasure of finding yet. I felt called to
Nursing is not only a career, but a way to give back to the community by enhancing and maintaining the health of other individuals. Throughout my clinical experiences last year, I witnessed kindness and selflessness among many nurses that have impacted and helped shape my future career choices and life immensely. Throughout this semester, I will assess myself on my nursing skills and will constantly try to strengthen my assessments, communication, clinical judgment and patient safety skills using the Creighton Competency Evaluation Instrument (CCEI, 2014). I believe that my experiences at Mayo will enabled me to find several of my strengths that I will obtained throughout the semester along with finding my weaknesses that I can work on for next semester. I am
