As one of the leaders in the transformation of the Tango (to) delete dance from the slums to international sensation, Astor Piazzolla was born in Argentina in 1921 and became one of Argentina’s most beloved Tango composers, bandoneon players, and arrangers. Piazzolla’s music is known across the world as being so unique that is classified with his name; he took tango music from the concert halls and brought it to Buenos Aires. He creates a language through his works of music, representative of his composing style. Piazzolla combined the traditions of the original tango along with jazz and classical music to create a new style of tango: Nuevo Tango. The tango originated in the bordellos in Argentina, so that(THE) title is fitting. This movement of the piece is set within a bordello early in the 20th century. This movement depicts the liveliness of women that teased men who (were) DELETE had questionable ideals in society. Within in (DELETE)the solo flute passages, there is a lot of rubato and the melody is very sensual, thus portraying the role of women in the bordellos. (THESIS) This movement is in a duple meter, which is standard for tangos in the early 20th century. The flute is very virtuosic throughout the movement, emphasizing the flirtatiousness of women. The tango is a genre of music and dance that most people have a general knowledge about, but there is much more than what meets the eye. The small details that help to establish a tango can improve the performance of a tango. (A performer who learns about the history of the tango that they are performing and during what time period it is from, will be able to understand the tempo changes that will occur, whether the piece is emphasizing both the dance and music together as a whole or focused on the music, and the direction of the tango. A performer who knows the story of the specific tango they are performing will be able to play a more accurate version of the tango because of the development of the tango and its history.
