When I attend Arizona State University, I plan to acquire a degree in applied biological sciences with a secondary in teaching. Then, I hope to become a teacher at the high school level in order to help further the knowledge of the students. To move towards my goal, I am not only enrolled in many science-centered classes, but I am also working to perfect my public speaking. It is an integral part of teaching to be able to stand in front of students and lecture, and that can only be done with expert syntax and diction. In the future, I see myself as a teacher who makes a difference not only in the education of students, but also as a leader for the students to look up to and relate to.
Not everyone is born to be a natural leader; some may find it difficult to make decisions for others. Being a leader is a lot of responsibility, and not everyone can handle the job. This is why, both inside and out of school, I have practiced leadership skills to prepare for my future. Over the summer of my junior year, I attended the National Youth Leadership camp. It was held at the ASU Polytechnic campus, and educated the participants on how to become good leaders. During this event, I was able to test my skills as a leader and learn ways to become a better

leader. The camp was preparation for my upcoming years as an officer for Spanish Club. I started off Junior year as the treasurer, and next year was elected president. The reason I was able to land the position of president, was because everyone looked up to me for direction. What I learned from being a leader at camp was applied to being a leader in the club, and it payed off. Not only was I able to help better the understanding of Spanish for students, but I was able to become someone they could depend on. The ASU Alumni Association's Medallion Scholarship is awarded based on leadership, extracurricular involvement, and service.
While many students believe that these qualities end after high school, I am committed to continuing the tradition after I graduate. Recipients of the Medallion scholarship should continue to be involved in the community and help others because they want to, not because they have to. I would be honored to receive the Medallion scholarship, if chosen to, and to continue helping others with other scholarship winners who share goals similar to mine. My dedication and persistence to helping others is what makes me stand out and the best candidate for the ASU Alumni Association's Medallion
Scholarship.
Last summer I volunteered at a local hospital for a total of 136 hours. At the end of the summer I received an honorable mention award for being a dedicated volunteer who is highly respected around the hospital. Furthermore, I've been a committed volunteer during this school year. I have also been an active member of my school's HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America) chapter; this March I will be competing in a medical terminology competition against members of other HOSA chapters across the state. Additionally, I am a devoted member of my school's academic decathlon team. Finally, I have been a member of CSF (California Scholarship Federation) for the past two years.
Being a leader is no simple task. During my Eagle Scout project, I lead a range of people, from adults to youth. It was my job to make sure everyone was working and, that everyone was capable of doing their task. I had many issues doing this throughout my project because I am only one person and I can’t be everywhere at once. Thusly made being a leader a drudgery. But I had an incredible set of adults guiding me along the way, who taught me that being a leader was not doing everything myself, being a leader
Leadership is being able to direct or guide other people by either your own actions or by actually guiding them into the right direction (Acumen). Inspiration to be a leader might come from many different areas like your family, friends, peers, or even teachers. My inspiration didn’t really occur to me until I started attending college in August 2013. In all actuality I never even thought of how to be a leader until I was in Mrs. Moore’s Perspectives class. I now have a desire to be a great leader, and the inspiration has come from Mrs. Moore, and my family. I am the first to attend college out of my family, so in a away I have already started leading my siblings in the right direction. Being a leader means inspiring others to pursue their dreams, and aspirations and helping throughout the journey to success. Being a leader has nothing with authority or being able to tell other what, and how to do things, it’s about having people who look up to you and want to follow your example.
I believe that leadership is not something that you are born with, but that has to be learned over time. You learn to become a leader from watching other leaders, and also from personal experience. People should become leaders; so that they can help others do their best. They should not become leaders for the title and power that may come with leadership. Being a leader does not mean you get to boss people around by telling them what to do. The purpose of a leader is to guide others by encouraging, showing them the way, and by challenging them to do the best that they can do. I learned leadership through personal experience. In high school I played sports and had many class projects to do. My senior year was the first time my school had a soccer program, and I along with two other girls was captains. As we all know, when a group of girls come together, the drama comes too. All three of the captains had to work together and show the girls that if we wanted this program to be a success and grow, they had to work together as well. It was hard at first, but when we encouraged everyone, it worked out better than expected in the end. Also, in my business class, we had a lot of projects that were mostly group projects. During the end of the year, we had a project where we had to make up a new product. My partner and I were both seniors and it was a stressful time with finals, SAT scores, graduation, and trying to become honor graduates. We were tired and just did not want to do another project, but our teacher, Mr. Brace, did not give up on us. He showed us what to do, and encouraged us constantly every day. He would tell us many positive things and would check up on us. He was a great teacher and a great leader. Leadership may be one wo...
Becoming a leader isn’t easy, just as becoming a surgeon or a writer isn’t easy, and anyone who claims otherwise is fooling himself. However, learning to lead is a lot easier than most would think it is, because every individual contains the capacity for leadership. In fact, almost everyone can recall some sort of leadership experience in his or her life. Any experience in leadership, from a camp counselor to a CEO, is a sufficient place to start when taking on the challenge of becoming a significant leader. Author Warren Bennis devoted his life to exploring the ways of leadership for the average individual. Several resources offer compelling evidence that each individual interested in a position of leadership must know the ins and outs of Warren Bennis’s On Becoming a Leader.
This is the first approach that was developed to structure the process of leadership around skills that can be learned and developed- suggesting that leadership is not an innate ability but can be nurtured and developed. It incorporates a wide variety of components that capture many of the intricacies and complexities of leadership not found in other models .
My education and the knowledge that follows it will become the basis to my future as an adult. The decision to choose a career path and begin to build your future is a crucial moment in every young adults life. After twelve years of school and studying, it is assumed that the time allotted would be plenty for me to choose which career is right. Based on clusters of enjoyable classes and keen skills developed, as a student, I thought I would be able to imagine what major I would like to pursue, but to my surprise I'm more confused than ever when it comes to my future career.
To be a leader you need to be able to inspire others, get people motivated, and set an example to other people. A leader needs to do all of these because if one of these aspects fails people don’t look at the leader...
It is often said that some people are born leaders. However, this may not hold true for me. My first notes on leadership were taken during my childhood days. I grew up observing my best friend’s mother multi task her role of a CEO, a wife, a daughter-in-law and a mother. I looked for characteristics that facilitated her to perform these tasks with an unconditional ease. In this process, I learned valuable lessons which helped overcome my own personal setbacks that I faced during my academic years and much later; when I was managing my father’s travel company at a young age.
Being a leader is one of the most incredibles opportunities any individual can be presented with. However, the idea of ‘leadership’ is simply just a umbrella where a world of infinite amount of factors can attribute to one’s success as a leader. That which only certain aspects of being a leader will be presented at a given time. It is applicable to any situation in life when it involves completing a task when more than just yourself is needed to get it done. There is so many situations in which being a leader or having leadership qualities plays an important role because developing yourself as a leader, creates a successful individual no matter the outcome. That person will alway continue to improve themselves and more effectively do what the
Leadership is trait that is extremely important in any society. Leadership is known as the way people attempting to make a difference in a situation. However, I believe that it is better said to be a way of influencing others actions. Leadership is usually connected to a great leader that affected his or her followers in a dynamic way. Throughout the semester for my leadership class, I have expanded the knowledge in numerous ways. I now have fully understanding of the purpose and process of leadership to a society. Being a leader one must maintain an image of being the role model. I believe that this is leader should be who is someone who has the ability to influence, encourage, listen, and nurture. They are able to inspire, stimulate, persuade, shape, and have an effect on others.
"A leader is an individual (or, rarely, a set of individuals) who significantly affects the thoughts, feelings, and/or behaviors of a significant number of individuals” (Gardner, Howard 2012). An essential part of a leader lies in their ability to motivate and influence people to follow their lead. Leaders are both men and women who have the ability to influence others in a community, control situations, connect with others and persuade others to follow them or the goals they define. To be a good leader one must set a good example and make correct decisions for difficult choices. I myself am implementing leadership skills into my every day life. Leadership skills are all around us. They can be applied to any situation where one may be required to take the lead. This can be
Leadership requires a wide array of personality traits and learned behaviors. While some individuals are what we might call “born leaders”, this in no way suggests that one cannot learn to be a successful, effective leader. Regardless, there are fundamental traits and behaviors required of one in order to be a successful, effective leader. In my personal example, the strongest areas of improvement potential were interpersonal skills, personal vision and communication. My boss was tenacious and had tremendous potential to lead our organization into incredible success, had she learned how to harness the potential of her people, as it is the followers that determine the success of the leader. (Clark, 1997)
In an article titled “Today’s Students Need Leadership Training like Never Before” Richard Greenwald said this about the importance of teaching leadership to all the students. “Graduates of leadership programs may not be crowned leaders as soon as they get their diplomas, but ideally they will have the skills to lead tomorrow 's generation and to thrive in the new economy” (Greenwald). It’s clear that the leadership skills given to students will help them later on in life. Teaching leadership helps people solve problems more effectively, communicate better, and have “responsible decision making…” skills (Lewis). By allowing every student the same opportunity to broaden their leadership skillset, explore new techniques, and guiding them along the path to becoming leaders that are more effective, the reward will be improved leaders that are capable of handling daily life situations. The nation needs leaders that are more knowledgeable, and teachers have the power to help create future leaders and provide them with the information and examples to learn
I think that developing leadership in our youth is very essential. Developing leadership skills at a young age will be very beneficial to the person as they get older. They will have something to fall back on and build on from their youth. Leadership will benefit them in everything they do, and help them stand out. Standing out in a positive way will allow them to go much further than someone without great leadership skills. There are many different ways that will help develop you as a leader, and the rewards are endless once you master the art of being a great leader.
