Introduction
Hello everyone today I will be talking about the site I chose for assignment two, a site is any form of communication. My site I chose was the Aria Awards, the Aria Awards is an annual exclusive award’s night celebrating the Australian Music Industry and is put on by the Australia Recording Industry Association better know as (Aria). The awards have been held annually since the first event in 1987. Each year exclusively the Aria event coordinators invite me, as I am apart of the music industry and have owned a media company for the past three years.

the Australian music industry is involved whether it is pre historic or contemporary music (Australasian Music Industry Network 2014). Indigenous music Prior to the English settlement Indigenous Australians developed a range of musical instruments including the didgeridoo and clap sticks where used with their oral traditions. Today the indigenous Australian traditions are used widely with mainstream and indigenous musicians to name include, Gurrumul Yunupingu and Yothu Yindi (Australian Tales 2013). Country music Country music began in Australia in the late 18th – 19th century when British convicts were deported to Australia.
The early songs were influenced by migrants from diverse background, starting with the British, Irish, and Scottish and welsh convicts. When Australia grew their nations country music began to represent the Australian music scene (Australian Tales 2013). One of the most well known Country song or Ballad as it is know for is Waltzing Matilda by – Slim dusty. The Australian country music scene yet again became popular in the 80s when John Williamson’s classic “Hey True Blue” became involved. Today Keith Urban continues to be the favorite of Country Music in Australia (Australian Tale …show more content…
2013). Contemporary music Australian pop and rock culture began in the 1950s to 1960s with artist’s like Johnny O’Keefe and Col Joy. Australian artists like INXS and AC/DC as such also started the Australian contemporary music phenomenon, heading to international stages making it to mass fame. Aria Awards Back to the Aria Awards, The awards have been held annually since the first event in 1987. The first 5 awards were not televised due to the awards office taking advice from Elton John with him stating “If you want these awards to be fun keep them off television”. Elton may have been trying to feed the industry’s secret “alleged” drug addiction media are forbidden to talk about. Since then the Aria awards have come back and forth between Television Network rivals channel nine and ten (Aria 2000). According to Aria (2015) to even be eligible for an award the artists single need to be on the charts for a certain period for a given year. To qualify bands must be Australian citizens or applied for permanent status however this does not count with an international award category. I spoke to multiple artists thoughout the evening at the arias. I asked them ‘what does music culture mean to them”. Starting with Lee Kernigan, Lee is a Australian Country music singer, songwriter. He was the 2008 Australian of the Year in recognition for his support of rural and regional Australia. On the night Lee won an Aria Award for his work in the music industry, saying that it was his fourth Aria. When asked what music culture means to him, Lee stated that it is all about the sound of the song that is first created and it is literally a fantasy when a song is released on CD or ITunes, it is unimaginable, the first time it happens is a dream come true. The next artist I spoke to was Taylor Henderson, I have know him for a few years, he rose to fame after being placed third on the fourth series of Australia’s Got Talent in 2010, however four years later he became runner up on the fifth season on X factor Australia and received a recording contract from Sony Music. Have a watch of what Taylor says when I ask him what music culture means to him. (Video) 3 mins- It was the other day when I contacted Amos Gill comedian and breakfast presenter at Hit 107 to catch up so we could talk about music culture.
This is what he had to talk about. (Video) – 2 mins)
Our individual musical likes and dislikes, to a great extent, are defined by the culture we identify with. The reason some people dislike classical music may not be because they dislike the music. It may be because they don't identify with the culture associated with classical music. The same can be said of someone's antipathy to country music or rap music or any other kind of music. Perhaps it is the culture they don't relate to.
Guests of the Aria Awards, singers and also distinguished guests etc congregate in their own groups. Individuals are quite humble to be where they are. People who are not affiliated with the music industry seem to think what people are like, even though they have not met them. This really bugs me, as some of my friends comment on my other friends whom are singers and seem to think they are best friends with them and know how they act.
(Ask for any questions first before the conclusion)
Conclusion Now evaluating on the site, guests from Australia and the world attend the Aria Awards to celebrate the Australian music industry’s achievements. Trying to describe what it feels like to be at the awards is very difficult because the atmosphere is just unbelievable. There are also multiple things I cant disclose from the Arias, which may have made this site more interesting and makes up a big part of the event. The industry members are very welcoming to people around them. The Arias is pretty much an event for members of the industry plus guest to have a crazy night. On conclusion of the awards some head to exclusive after parties. By invite only I attended three parties, Aria Official after party, Sony Music after party and the Universal Music after party. Lastly this site relates back to the readings from assignment one as they relate to various cultures and acceptance of the cultures. Thanks everyone for listening.
In Rebel Music by Daniel Felsenfeld, he tells his story of how he became interested in classical music at a younger age, and could not break away from this interest. He began his story at the age of 17, after he had training in piano, and could play reasonably well. However, at this point he declared himself “by no means unmusical.” He also explains the times when he first found classical music, while visiting a friend he was asked if he wanted to hear “something really wild.” While he expected a rebellious theme or genre of music, such as goth, punk, edge, or another style, instead he pulled out a remarkable collection of classical pieces, and Felsenfeld immediately became hooked. He continues his narrative to his later years, as he discovers
The first fact that should be pointed out is that Keith Urban is not a natural-born Australian. The Whangarei, New Zealand-born bloke moved to the country when he was 4 years old. It is here that he developed his passion for guitar at a young age and began performing as a teen. By 1991, at the age of 24, Urban had charted four No. 1 country singles in Australia. That wasn’t enough for him, however. Urban crossed the ocean shortly after becoming successful at home in order to further his career in Nashville, Tennessee, the hometown of many of his country music heroes (“Keith Urban Biography”).
Music has played an important part in my life. My love for music comes from my dad. Growing up I remember him having a room full of CDs and instruments that he played daily. The songs varied in genres and the instruments ranged from pianos, violins to drums. I grew up loving almost every style of music so, it is very difficult for me to dislike a song unless, it is vulgar or “dark”.
classical music has been dead to the young. There have been many genres of music
Our heart and souls at all times sense rejuvenated and lively with every beat of finest music we hear. Music comes in a variety of diverse forms which are admired and renowned for their own unique styles. Classical music is one of the breeds of musical forms that exist since many years with its visible significance in the music industry. Classical music is a part of our globe from almost 1000 years and inspires millions of people with its liveliness and simplicity.
In the 1950’s country rock was an unknown genre to many mainstream audiences and with the emergence of rockabilly artists in the late 1960’s country rock grew and continued to grow in popularity during the 1970’s through the 1990’s because of style, sound, and the new way country rock audiences perceived it. Country rock from the 1950’s to the 1990’s has been perceived similarly and differently by its audiences over time because of it’s original country sound and its similar rock sound.
In conclusion, many people have different opinions on the large variety of music. There are many to choose from. Most people would greatly prefer some music over others. I am not one to judge for this subject. I like many types. I think music has the same effect on everybody. No matter the
I have been asked to identify and evaluate two important current developments in the music industry. I will be discussing the rise of electronic dance music and also the growing number of musicians gaining success via YouTube.
Classical music is known as light and smooth, also it is heavily emphasized on homophonic melodies, meaning that there is a single melody that every instrument plays. Thus, the significant turning point of classical music in humanity’s social and cultural development is that this type of music first heard became very popular in the 18th century. Classical music created energy, rhythm, and harmonic symphony and from these people advanced more and more and made these elements much better. This turning point not just improved classical music, but other music that evolved from classical music. Also, Classical music is known as one of the first music ever in the nation. When people listen to classical music they can identify the soft rhythm and how peaceful it sounds. According to the article Music Genres as Historical Artifacts, “Classical music in general is an important part of the cultural capital that gains access to scarce economic, educational and occupational resources” (Vlegels). It can be shown that just a certain type of music can give so many elements defining music and educational resources as well; which make it a significant turning point in the cultural or social development. People love music that soothes their heart and mind, and that could get their mind off of all the negativity around

Australia is a very unique place, along with our multiculturalism there is also a strong heritage surrounding us. At first thought of Australian heritage we think about such landmarks as Uluru, The Sydney harbour bridge and The Sydney opera house, The Great Barrier reef and other internationally recognised places. But our heritage goes much deeper than that; it is far more than outstanding icons. Along with these icons there are also unsung places like the old cattle stations, Aboriginal missions, migrant hostels, War memorials, our unique wetlands and the towns and cities we have built. Adding all of these things together, helps to tell the story of who we are and how we have shaped this land in the unique identity it has today.
classical music isn’t half bad. modern rock is still the music for me, but I have really
Music in this century is beginning to have more of an effect to people than ever before. It has evolved into calming and something that anyone can dance to. However, some music genres are becoming too provocative due to the lyrics being hateful to many things. But for some
Through numerous poetic techniques Paterson has shown that the Australian diversity is as diverse as the country itself. The Australian identity concerns the way Australia is viewed by other people. There are a variety of different aspects that contribute to this identity of Australia which include historical icons. Paterson recognizes how lucky we are to live on a land notorious for its diverse landscape. He is signaling that we are missing out and we need to cherish the great land we were given.
I think sometimes the choices of music you listen to really are determine by what you were brought up listening to or always heard. Also how you can relate to the music is another reason. If you hear for an example this rapper talking about how they were brought up and what would go on in a typical black family I could really relate to that message he/she was trying to deliver. Growing up was never easy it was always a struggle or an extra step to get were I wanted to be and satisfied in life.
