It is only natural that as a society, we are beginning to question whether or not such a prominent part of our lives is doing us harm, or good. If screens and technology overall has so effectively infultrated its way into our lives, does this determine the safety of it because of how liked it is? or is the fact that it is being so widely obsorbed a red flag, calling for concern and change? The evidence is here: infants and children locking eyes with the screen is deteriorating, and over-use of screens within the remainder of the population is more than apparent. For example, a grocery store: I witness so many infants and toddlers in their booster of the shopping cart holding an iPhone, iPad, or tablet while their parents shop. It keeps them 'behaved' and subdued. 'Between 2011 and 2013, children ages 8 and under more than doubled their use of media devices with screens. The increase for children under age 2 was even higher.' These statistics are extremely convincing of the fact that screens are taking over today's youth: throughout human history, there has never been anything so influencial in terms of human behavior and development. 'Now, for the first time in fifty years, researchers are seeing a significant decresase in kids' creativity.' One of the most cherished aspects of childhood is creativity, and the imagination that comes with playtime. Screens are taking away youth's most precious charm. In order to develop into a healthy human, children require playtime. 'Play is important for kids. It helps develop emotional health, imagination, original thinking, and problem solving.' Playtime also gives children the chance to develop autonomy: letting your child go outside and explore, and get lost in their own little world makes them, overall, a more independent, healthier
