Some students attended preschool when they were younger, for some it might have been a better experience than others. Early Childhood Education has slowly become an unimportant problem for the world and it's time for that to change. Slowly technology has been taking over the way that young children are being taught in school. In many states in this country preschool programs aren't as attainable as they are in others and that's a problem . Preschool impacts overall educational performance and should be required for all children regardless of socioeconomic standing in order to ensure that all children will be successful in the future.

For example, Head Start has a few income requirements, it requires that a family makes a “low-income” salary since it was created for those beneath the poverty line. The Montessori program doesn’t have requirements, because it works for toddlers, elementary, and adolescents (“Montessori”). The Waldorf program is recommended for students with certain disabilities, but for those students with severe mental disabilities it might be a bit more uncomfortable of difficult to socialize with other classmates (Robledo). Lastly, Community Centers don’t really have many requirements but they are more reliable for parents that work until late. All of these programs have multiple ways to receive funding, Head Start acquires its money from the government. In the years 2015 the government gave the Head Start program about 9,000,000,000 dollars to fund and run the program (“FY 2015”). Over the years the amount of preschoolers have increased by the thousands. In the beginning of Head Start programs have began to appear everywhere, but in the last couple of years the amount of Head Start programs have decreased slightly (“FY 2015”). Since Montessori programs receive their fundings from the payments that the families of the students pay, they have about 5,000 schools which include 300 public schools (Samarrai). This is very untrue because their is many pieces of proof that defend the pure existence of preschool programs. In the year 2012, a couple of women decided to prove that attending preschool was a very brilliant idea. They had adolescent students that went to preschool and that didn’t attend preschool take the same test, as it was to be expected the students that attended preschool had an average score of 27.3 while those that didn’t attend had a 26.6 average score (Apps, Mendolia, Walker). They also took other samples within those students and they discovered many interesting things. For example, in the samples that the women took they realized that students that apply to colleges right after high school have a 63.8% to have attended preschool than those that didn’t. Another piece of evidence that promotes preschool, is that students that didn’t attend preschool have a lower chance of having a proper job at the ages between 20-21 (Apps, Mendolia, Walker). Throughout the years preschool has helped adolescents with their memory. It all began with simple memory games or repetitive songs to help adolescents with their memories. When in class the students are taught to use encoded text that will later help them recall the information in those encoded verses (Anthony). Children need preschool in its most basic essence: to define motor skills, achieve basic socialization skills, and to learn the alphanumeric system that will undoubtedly help improve their understanding in the grades to come, allowing for the advances in education that America desires and certainly needs. Making preschool mandatory as part of the education reforms that America so desperately requires will combat the lack of educational programming that exists and allow children to receive education at a younger age than they would have in a home where education is not a main family focus.
I am a firm believer that the quality of the child care directly affects the child’s development in the classroom. By eliminating the need for competing preschools to continue to improve their curriculum and to remain relevant in the field of early childhood education, we risk falling into the same trap K-12 education has fallen into. Head Start does an adequate job at meeting the needs of children in the manner in which it was originally founded. The Head Start program is not bad and should not be done away with. But, from what I have learned through this study, amendments could be made to increase the longevity of the desired results. In this paper I will discuss the Head Start program. Seventeen to nineteen percent of the fifty percent of children who are in early education programs are in head start. Head start was created in 1965 and is the largest financed early education in the United States. Although many say that head start is a great tool to get students ready for school there are some mixed evidence on both of it. Head start has not shown any improvement on the math skills. Childcare or “daycare” is one of the most commonly used resources among Americans in the United States. There are many options for childcare that parents could choose from. They have many choices for childcare, ranging from: in-home care, childcare facilities, after school or government-funded Head Start programs. . “Head Start is a federally funded governmental program with the explicit goal of preparing underprivileged children for primary education” (Conley). This program is another option for the pre-k program. The cost of childcare has risen dramatically over the past year, and no one really knows whom to blame for it. There are a few types of preschool programs. First there are structured preschool programs that focus on emphasizing an actual school setting and classroom activities in order to prepare the child for kindergarten or first grade. There are also day care centers, which are not as structured as preschool centers. Daycare’s focus mainly on child’s development through social interaction with children and caregivers. Then there are head start programs that are geared to give children a foot in the right direction in order to be ready for preschool or kindergarten. The right kind of childcare can be a wonderful opportunity to promote the profound learning children experience from birth through age five (Selecting child care, 2002).
It’s been noted that recent studies specify that “more than half of all 3-5-year-old children in the United States attend child-care centers prior to kindergarten” and “Given these high usage rates, the quality of these early child-care experiences has become an important public policy issue” (Peisner-Feinberg 2001). People willing to teach in an early childhood center are vitally important for learning and have overwhelming benefits for the children (Teufel). Children are expected to know much more information at an early age, so it benefits children to have the opportunity to take part in a program before kindergarten.
Early childhood education plays a key role in a child’s academic development because he or she learns soft skills, job skills, and develop positive traits. Preschool is not like kindergarten, but instead a stepping-stone that prepares young students for the years of schooling they will have later in life. As more schools began to open families wanted to be able to verify that programs would benefit and protect their children. In response, the National Association for the Education of Young Children was made to help families find the best care for their children, by providing the early childhood educators with training and ensuring the quality of children’s daily experiences.
