nti-Gun Control Gun control has stirred an incredible amount heated debates and controversy in this country. Both sides believe that their view is the correct view. The question remains: Will controlling firearms result in less firearm deaths? The answer to that question is no. This is both proven and obvious. First is the point that criminals have never and will never obey the law, which is why they are criminals. The United Kingdom has an incredibly strict gun control policy but yet their murders involving a knife or other sharp edged weapons has a dramatic increase compared to our own. The second point is that there is already gun control implemented in many places, so gun control can easily be studied. The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence studies and ranks all 50 states from the most strict to the most lenient. When comparing this with the FBI database of crime reports it will show that the strictest gun law states have the highest rate of firearm related murders than the state that is much more lenient. These two points come together to show that gun control will not work and is impractical. Gun control has been a topic that has stirred up an unbelievable amount of turmoil in this country. Those that are for and against gun control claim that their view is the correct one. However, no one claims that the shootings and violence that have impacted this country are a direct result of the current legislature. The argument seems to be centered on whose point of view will return favorable results. Will controlling firearms result in less shooting deaths or not? That answer to that question is a no. Though gun control may seem to be a good idea in theory, it is completely impractical. As an example, in the navy yard sho... ... middle of paper ... ...ust be said; when gun control activists say that if there were no guns there would be no gun crime, they are wrong. This is the entire though behind their crusade and is why so many political problems have arose. It would be impossible to accomplish such an act and so they are left with nothing more than a theory. Finally, our United States with their varying governments and constitutions already provide the populace with the mechanism with which to study gun control. This mechanism is the fact that some states chose to restrict and regulate gun sales and possession to a much higher degree than others. The result of the analysis of these two types of state was the states with the strictest gun laws have more murders than the states with the most relaxed laws. These two points come together to illustrate how gun control is, in reality, completely impractical.
Left, right, Liberal, Conservative, Democratic, Republican. There are a lot of synonyms for the sides of our nation divided. Divided on many things: religion, political views, morals, etc.. For a nation that prides ourselves on extraordinary security and unity, it is quite ironic that so many issues can cause such distress and uproar within communities. One such issue is gun control. As a white male in a middle-lower class family that has never owned a gun, I may be somewhat biased. Objectively as I can, I am going to report the facts and more importantly, try to find the core issues at play.
“A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” The right of all Americans to bear arms is a right the Founding Fathers held to equal importance as the Constitution itself. Gun control laws directly violate this right and therefore should not even be under consideration. Even if that issue is overlooked, gun control advocates state that in order to reduce firearm related violence, gun control laws must be implemented to remove the violence caused by firearms. Although this may seem reasonable, the consequences of such laws are ironically counterproductive; they exacerbate the problem instead of fixing it. Besides the fact that the American Constitution guarantees its citizens the right to bear arms, the idea of restricting gun ownership in order to reduce firearm-related violence would ultimately fail given the previous experiments of gun control in England and in numerous states.
Comparing the United States’ homicidal statistics to England and Wales’, I’ve been moderately persuaded towards the opponent’s side of gun control. It’s difficult to dictate what’s morally acceptable in today’s society with the increasing amounts of controversy, but noticing the dramatic increases in crime rate due to the lack in supply of guns, versus the dramatic decreases in crime rate because of an increase in the supply of guns, definitely proves the consequences of gun control to a certain degree. I would also have to agree that ridding the public from their firearms does take away the privilege of defending ourselves from any sort of crime. With the given results, knowing that our American citizens defend themselves from
For many years, America has witnessed mass shootings within it’s borders. In 2015 alone, there were 372 mass shootings (Oldham). The question most Americans are faced with is: do we need more gun control or is gun control the problem? With more gun control, it can be made mandatory that protective devices are used on firearms to prevent accidental harm. Gun control creates mandatory laws such as the requirement for an individual to pass a background check before he/she is permitted to purchase a firearm. Gun control has also been proven to prevent suicides due to the increased difficulty of obtaining a firearm. Those who believe that gun control is the problem claim that by removing one 's firearms, you are endangering them to threats that
We have had gun control laws in the past. We thought that they would help the crime and murder rate decrease, but that was not the case. The crime and murder rate stayed the same, so we took away the laws. 11% of killing is from stabbing in Chicago. It was proven that if we took away guns all together then the 11% would increase rapidly. We need guns for protection more than anything. The police cannot protect us in every situation. We need to be able to defend and protect ourselves. (_Esmarttips. "Gun Control Arguments, Pro & Con." Smart Tips. N.p., n.d. Web. 02 May 2017).
Guns and crime seem to fit together like peanut butter and jelly, but is that really the case? There are two ways to look at gun control, but one realization that needs to be made and that’s that guns are powerful. Guns can either be used for defending and protecting people or they can be used to harm and kill people. People have different views on whether guns are being used for protection or being used to harm and kill others. The majority of people that think guns are being used for safety and defense oppose gun control laws. On the other hand the majority of people who think guns are being used to heartlessly slaughtered people are for stricter gun control laws. People opposed to gun control thinking it will be taking away some of their rights; whereas, those in favor of gun control thinking it will help protect people.
If there was no gun control, then the rates of gun deaths might easily skyrocket. An example of why gun control is essential is when one considers the various instances of a mass shooting. Whenever gun related crimes happen, such as the shooting of cops, black people, or a mass shooting in schools, the country turns into national mourning, meaning that this has an effect on all Americans. The laws as they are now, and some of those that have been proposed, do not have sufficient guidelines in place to prevent such gun related deaths. Certainly, there is a need for more restrictive laws, and arguments for further restriction include societal needs, the increasing rates of the gun-related violence as well as death, questions of availability and
Gun control is one of the most controversial and one of the most talked about topics in the U.S. Some believe that if guns are taken away that there will be less violence and that the death rate may even go down. While others believe that they have a right to bare arms like it states in the constitution. One of the most talked about reasons on why gun control should be stricter is the obvious: guns are not safe. But what people don’t understand is that everytime a gun is purchased a criminal background check is done right away. What people are unaware if is that the majority of people who purchase guns have already bought one in the past. Another talked about issue is the Right to Bear Arms. The Right to Bear arms has been in the constitution for decades. The constitution is not just something you can edit and re-write everytime you see a problem with it or think its “outdated”
Gun control is an awfully big issue in the United States today. Many people in America don’t agree with the gun control laws that they have today. Gun control laws only take guns and freedom away from law-abiding citizens. Many citizens have their own reasons for owning a gun. Why would the government want to make it harder for people to own a gun? People that own guns aren’t very likely to be attacked by criminals. Owning a handgun is one of the best ways of protection when used correctly. The second amendment states “the right to bear arms”; does this grant everyone the right to own a gun? Gun control laws have not been proven to do anything for citizens. Gun control laws just make it harder for the good guy average Joe to own a gun. Gun control laws are not a good idea, and are taking part in the loss of our freedom that was given to us.
Gun violence in America is a public health crisis, which needs to be recognized and changed by legislatures, and the voting American. As conscious Americans, we need to vote for changes to gun laws that would improve background checks nation-wide, make firearm registration mandatory, restrict the sale of assault weapons and weapon modifications that give the shooter military-grade fire power, and invest in gun-safe technology and safe firearms storage designs. This type of technology will help prevent criminally oriented people from accessing guns, and will help prevent the accidental deaths of many children by guns. This essay will explain the reforms needed to help ensure Americans can still exercise their 2nd amendment right of owning firearms, and preventing the unnecessary deaths of many Americans at the same time.
Gun control is a problem that is ever growing. It occurs all over the world knowing no limits or boundaries. As of today, the United States of America is experiencing lots of problems with gun control. The definition of gun control is any law or policy that is based upon restricting or limiting anything involving firearms. This includes, but is not limited to possession of firearms, production, shipment, sale and even use of firearms. Currently there are quite a few gun control laws in place. Each country has its own around the world, with the United Kingdom being the strictest of anybody in regards to the possession of guns. The United States of America on the other had is one of the countries with the most lenient gun control laws. However, in the past 10 years gun control laws have changed drastically in the United States. It has also become one of the most talked about, and controversial topics, in today’s society. It is my belief that gun control will hurt us more than help.
Gun control is a sensitive issue in the United States in this day and age because of the recent media attention that public shootings have been receiving, and there are many different ideas on how or if the government should control guns. However, gun control is completely unnecessary for four reasons. For example, the Second Amendment provides American citizens with the right to own and operate all kinds of guns, and that eliminating firearms would not make the amount of gun-deaths decrease because gun control laws would only affect law-abiding citizens, not criminals. Another example would be the use of high capacity magazines. If the government were to ban large magazines, it would again not take them out of the hands of criminals, only

Gun control seems like a good idea, less gun related deaths, less accidental deaths, and no gun related injuries, until you see the facts. The truth is weather guns are banned or not it doesn’t make a difference on the actual crime rate. You may see an increase or decrease of gun related deaths or injuries for a little while after a ban BUT, the crime rate always evens out back to what it was. “The UK enacted its handgun ban in 1996. From 1990 until the ban was enacted, the homicide rate fluctuated between
The issue of gun control in the United States has always been and will most likely remain a polarizing and controversial issue. It does not appear that at any time soon a resolution for the needless gun violence that occurs in the US will come to an end, with certain groups such as the NRA advocating no gun control at all, putting these weapons on pedestals, as the ultimate forms of freedom, liberty and expression, surpassing even the freedoms of speech, religion and petition. It will prove difficult to find a suitable middle ground to satisfy gun worshiping conservatives who are terrified of losing their guns, to big city liberals who see no need for people owning assault weapons because they are black and scary looking. However we can all agree on one thing, that expanded measures on handguns will reduce violence because they account for the majority of crimes while these so called assault weapons who are in the niche of statistics are put in the spotlight. Simply put gun control measures should be expanded to include more regulations for handguns as they account for the majority of gun crimes.
