We all want to be safe. That is a given. But is banning, confiscating, and outlawing our only source of immediate protection really a good idea? I want to talk about how no matter what you do with guns the murder/homicide rate stays the same.
Gun control seems like a good idea, less gun related deaths, less accidental deaths, and no gun related injuries, until you see the facts. The truth is weather guns are banned or not it doesn’t make a difference on the actual crime rate. Some people believe that extremely tight gun control laws will eliminate crime, but gun control laws only prevent the 'good guys' from obtaining firearms. Criminals will always have ways of getting weapons, whether it be from the black market, cross borders, or illegal street sales. New gun control laws will not stop them. Since the shootings of Columbine High School, Virginia Tech, and Sandy Hook, the frequency of mass shootings has increased greatly. Gun control is not effective as it has not been shown to actually reduce the number of gun-related crimes. Instead of considering a ban of private firearm possession, and violating individual ownership rights, it may be more practical to consider the option of partially restricting firearm access.
Left, right, Liberal, Conservative, Democratic, Republican. There are a lot of synonyms for the sides of our nation divided. Divided on many things: religion, political views, morals, etc.. For a nation that prides ourselves on extraordinary security and unity, it is quite ironic that so many issues can cause such distress and uproar within communities. One such issue is gun control. As a white male in a middle-lower class family that has never owned a gun, I may be somewhat biased. Objectively as I can, I am going to report the facts and more importantly, try to find the core issues at play.
Gun control and gun banning have been a highly controversial issue since all the gun crimes hitting the news in America. Crimes like Sandy-Hook , Aurora , San Berdindno , and Oregon have lawmakers thinking about banning guns by enacting laws that allows them to. Lawmakers believe guns are the prime suspect in all these gun violence crimes and they believe it well reduce murder and violence. Banning guns well do nothing to reduce the mass killings. If a criminal has the intent to commit a crime nothing can stop them. Also a criminal doesn’t abide by the law that is why they are criminals. Gun banning would only disarm the legal law abiding citizen leaving them defenseless. Also the right to bear arms is guaranteed by the Constution and the Bill of Rights. If lawmakers have the courage take away one Constutional right they will have the courage to keep going, I have three logical reasons why gun banning well not work.
Americans are faced with a huge problem of violence in the streets, these streets have become a place where old people are beaten for their social security checks, where little women are attacked and raped, where teen aged thugs shoot it out for some turf to sell their illegal drugs, and finally where small children everyday are caught in the way of bullets during drive by shootings. We try to ignore the criminals in our society and how they hurt it, but we shouldn’t. We should take actions to stop these acts of crazy people. And people try, but the hard work of some misguided individuals to stop the legal ownership of guns doesn’t really affect the problem at all, and takes the guns from the innocent citizens, who simply want means of self defense.
Imagine you are a little boy, a boy no older than six year olds, getting ready to for school. Your blue backpack rests on your shoulders as you approach the red labyrinth, both embracing you while simultaneously encroaching you. Suddenly, a harsh metallic booming sound erupts, and after a mere sliver in time, you lay dead on the floor in a pool of blood. Unfortunately, the course of action just envisioned is not merely hypothetical. Scores of innocent individuals are part of massacres done by the mentally ill with legally bought guns, guns made for war, guns made to maximize death and horror. Gun control is a really good idea. Not only does it prevent all of the above but it also prevents a lot of accidents. Accidents from innocent people and especially children. As Norman L. Lunger explains in his book Big Bang: The Loud Debate over Gun Control. He writes, “Saving Lives With Gun Control. It's a common item on the evening news: A child picks up a loaded gun and it suddenly goes off, killing the child or a bystander. In Florida, two young boys found a shotgun under a bed in their grandparents' home. A six year old pulled the trigger, and a five year old fell dead. In Illinois, two teens found a handgun in their grandmother's apartment. The gun went off in the hands of a sixteen-year-old boy, killing his fifteen-year-old cousin. He took the gun to school, pulled it out of his pocket, and shot a girl in his first-grade class. There is no way to go around it. Innocent children killed because there is no gun control. Not convincing enough? Since the development of firearms, human life has been threatened more than from the use of any other weaponry. Crimes related to firearms like mass killing, assault and homicide are increasing at a tremendous rate. Keeping the safety of their citizens in mind, many nations have formulated gun control laws as a major part of their legislation. Advocates have struggled to come up with a solution to the ongoing debate of how to reduce gun violence and how not to infringe on the Second Amendment Americans are guaranteed by their Constitution the right to bear arms with good reason; laws seeking to control guns have been ineffective to the point where every citizen in every state should have the right to carry a concealed weapon.
Gun violence in America is a public health crisis, which needs to be recognized and changed by legislatures, and the voting American. As conscious Americans, we need to vote for changes to gun laws that would improve background checks nation-wide, make firearm registration mandatory, restrict the sale of assault weapons and weapon modifications that give the shooter military-grade fire power, and invest in gun-safe technology and safe firearms storage designs. This type of technology will help prevent criminally oriented people from accessing guns, and will help prevent the accidental deaths of many children by guns. This essay will explain the reforms needed to help ensure Americans can still exercise their 2nd amendment right of owning firearms, and preventing the unnecessary deaths of many Americans at the same time.
The debate over gun control in America has constantly brought up over the years due to gunmen killing large amounts of civilizations in shootings. From Columbine to Sandy Hook or the shootings of the two reporters in West Virginia, these public shootings are occurring everywhere. Why do we have gun control? Is it because the people or the criminals? Gun control is a very passionate subject, for the last 200 years people have debated on who should have them, and what they can have. It mainly refers to laws and policies that manage the manufacture, sale, transfer, possession or the use of firearms to control crime and reduces firearm violence. I am leaning on to Dalmia’s side. Banning guns isn’t right ( in my own opinion). I think that by banning guns like I previously said above, it’s not going to fix problems by that mean it’s going to be causing even more problems. Not only is there a bad rate of shootings but it’s not gonna get any better because you can’t possibly get every gun out there. For the people out there that “act if they don’t /lie” about having a gun will still be able to start things (as shootings) while others think that they didn’t even have a gun to be able to shoot up anything they choose
