Gun control is a problem that is ever growing. It occurs all over the world knowing no limits or boundaries. As of today, the United States of America is experiencing lots of problems with gun control. The definition of gun control is any law or policy that is based upon restricting or limiting anything involving firearms. This includes, but is not limited to possession of firearms, production, shipment, sale and even use of firearms. Currently there are quite a few gun control laws in place. Each country has its own around the world, with the United Kingdom being the strictest of anybody in regards to the possession of guns. The United States of America on the other had is one of the countries with the most lenient gun control laws. However, in the past 10 years gun control laws have changed drastically in the United States. It has also become one of the most talked about, and controversial topics, in today’s society. It is my belief that gun control will hurt us more than help. Over the past 10 years, gun control has evolved and drastically changed. There has been a number of new laws and policies that have become enacted or declined. According to a poll done between December 14-16 in 2012 57% of Americans would like to see new laws and policies come forth that would support gun control. However, in March of 2012, the percentage was only 39% that supported gun control. Analyzing these statistics you can see how gun control is receiving a lot of support and changing from what we used to think. If you went back another 10 years, only 5% of Americans supported any form of gun control. As Thomas Jefferson once stated. “laws that forbid the carrying of arms… disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes… ... ... middle of paper ... ...t of this brief. In short is stating that just because the gun has a sporting purpose and it can be used for a sporting purpose doesn’t mean that it is a sporting gun. Sporting purpose is also legally vague and I imagine that the courts will be fighting over this one few years. In conclusion, gun control is something that will always be debated. Whether it is right or wrong is up for you to decide. By choosing the right politicians you can let others know what you believe, because ultimately it is them that make the laws. Hopefully we can come up with a resolution to fix the mess that America is in right now. Works Cited Kirgiz, Allen. http://rense.com/general85/obs.htm. Nap... Efforts to promote gun control date back to the 1960s. For instance, The Gun Control Act of 1968 attempted to keep firearms away from people not of age, and holding a criminal background. Even though these laws exist, people wanting to harm still find ways of legally obtaining firearms. Sick people will go out of their ways to get what they want; the only thing we could do is make it harder for them to obtain weapons by making background checks more complex. I personally believe that it is President Barack Obama 's job to address these issues and bring about reforms for he is the highest official of this national. Furthermore, according to Infoplease, Obama is trying to address gun control: “...His plan includes universal background checks for gun sales, the reinstatement and strengthening of the assault weapons ban, limiting ammunition magazines to a 10-round capacity, and other measures” (Gettings). Things need to be done to reduce the number of tragedies. As stated, “Close to 33,000 Americans were victims of gun-related deaths in 2011 and an average of 268 citizens are shot every day” (Daily Record Staff). The chart on the right shows that only a few states have current laws designed to protect citizens. One could infer that the death rate in the United States is awfully high. Specifically, California 's current gun control legislation is said to be one of the best. Many bills have passed in an
When it comes to gun control, there are several disagreements. While some believe that guns should be extremely regulated or even banned, others maintain that guns are essential and should not be as heavily regulated. Despite objections, gun regulation is good as is.
In The United States of America there are lots of problems that are plaguing our nation. Gun Control is a problem that there is lots of controversy over. This is a problem that had a fire reignited under it when on December 14, 2012 a school in Connecticut was attacked. Many legislative bills have been introduced since then. (Focus of U.S Gun Control Shifts to States Year after Newtown Shooting) There are lots of issues that we have in our community with Gun Control that we have controversy over: background checks, age, classes, military guns, pistols, shotguns, and rifles. All of these things are apart of the plague in our Nation.
When anyone mentions “gun control,” it makes me cringe with disbelief. It is impossible for me to understand why people want to (and might some day) take away my right to gun ownership. They defend their cases by using examples of school shootings and gang violence; this is unremarkably insane to me. The idea that today’s politicians could change the laws of our great land by using the examples of a few misguided youngsters brings back into view other leaders who have done the same. Lenin, Stalin, Hitler, Mussolini, Idi Amin, Mao Tse-tung, and Pol Pot were powerful tyrants. After taking power, these men took all guns from the civilian population. Our own government has been taking the necessary steps to abolish the second amendment. Owning a gun is a right not a privilege. We, as citizens, have to protect our rights to gun ownership so we can protect ourselves if necessary.
There are gun control laws to try and reduce the number of violent shootings that occur. They are trying to put limits on weapons that Americans can own. The government is trying to take our guns away mainly because of people that are criminally insane. Most of the people who commit crimes don’t even have the weapons legally. If the government takes away the rights of people who are allowed to have firearms in their possession, it will most definitely cause an outrage. Most people believe that the people should be more capable of maintain proper use of the firearms instead of having them all taken away. Taking the firearms from Americans away would cause a lot more problems than there actually are. The people will be upset with the government taking firearms away because of the horrible people who harm innocent people using them. So they will do anything to their capabilities to keep them.
People have questioned gun control long time. Many people wonder if anyone, aside from those who join the law force, should be allowed to carry guns. Benjamin Franklin once said, “Those who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety” (Wright 4). Franklin understood that taking guns away from law-abiding citizens would not uphold their liberty. Some people who argue for gun control state many violent crimes involve guns. Others believe a child could find the gun and something bad could happen to the child or others when a gun is unsafely stored. People who argue against gun control might say there is a huge psychological gap between citizens who shoot to protect themselves or their property and those who go into schools and shoot at others. Criminals will always find a way around gun control laws and will be able to obtain and use guns illegally. The second amendment protects gun rights for individual citizens. Reasonable gun control laws and educational steps can be taken to protect the majority of U.S. citizens. Gun control does not only take guns away from criminals, gun control also limits law-abiding citizens from protecting themselves and their families when necessary.
Gun control has been a controversial issue for many years. A vast majority of citizens believe that if gun control is strictly enforced it would quickly reduce the threat of crime. Many innocent people feel they have the right to bear arms for protection, or even just the pleasure of hunting. Americans have a constitutional right to own hand guns and stricter laws and licensing will not affectively save lives.
Gun control is both a crime issue, as well as a safety issue. It can range from moderate to extreme. Gun control goes as back as the 17th century where Japan was using guns for war making as to current tragedies occurring in schools. Guns have never disappeared, they have only multiplied in numbers to numerous amount of guns, ranging from small to big. Gun control isn't only a problem but it can also be solution depending on how it is being used and the person using it. Gun control can be controlled with many methods but in the end it matters how the person is going to use the weaponry.
Gun control is a highly controversial topic in today’s world where the fight is between the liberal and the conservatives. Many people believe that guns should be banned due to many recent massacres that have happened whereas others are wanting people to have background checks done before owning a gun. I am against gun control because banning handguns in the United States should not be allowed because handguns fail to protect the people and it is ineffective.
The United States today can be a scary place. Someone that is disgruntled, has a mental health issue, radicalized through terrorist propaganda or for any other reason can take up a firearm and mass murder innocent people. It can happen anywhere, anytime, anyplace. Anyone that pays attention to any news or newspapers has probably heard something about gun control. It’s a hot topic in this country and around the world. There are a lot of problems with gun control and regulating guns in the United States. Before you can talk about solutions you need to isolate the problems keeping the solutions from being realized. The people who are for and against guns do have common solutions but there is strong opposition
So why is gun control such a hot debate? Perhaps to answer this question it would be important to look at some key statistics concerning handguns in our society. In this nation, where nearly half of all US households own at least one gun, nearly 30,000 people die from a gunshot each year (Dahl). From this alone it is no wonder gun control is such an important issue, however as bad as this may seem, the number of firearm related incidents have decreased over the years. In the early 1990’s the number of people killed or wounded by firearms soared. Since 1993 however the US has seen a steady drop in deaths due to firearm (The Lancet). Fatal firearms accidents have declined as well, nearly 40 percent in the last decade, and are now at the lowest levels ever recorded (Poe). So why the sudden drop? Antigun advocates would like to attribute this to an increase in gun control laws while pro gun advocates point to a decrease in unemployment rates along with other social factors.
Gun control is an awfully big issue in the United States today. Many people in America don’t agree with the gun control laws that they have today. Gun control laws only take guns and freedom away from law-abiding citizens. Many citizens have their own reasons for owning a gun. Why would the government want to make it harder for people to own a gun? People that own guns aren’t very likely to be attacked by criminals. Owning a handgun is one of the best ways of protection when used correctly. The second amendment states “the right to bear arms”; does this grant everyone the right to own a gun? Gun control laws have not been proven to do anything for citizens. Gun control laws just make it harder for the good guy average Joe to own a gun. Gun control laws are not a good idea, and are taking part in the loss of our freedom that was given to us.
There is an American consensus for some form of gun control. “…[F]irearms were involved in two-thirds of all murders in the United States and [t]he United States leads the world's richest nations in gun deaths…murders, suicides, and accidental deaths due to guns - according to a study published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the International Journal of Epidemiology” (Lepore). There might be some far extreme people who think that all guns should be banned but most sane Americans do not think that gun rights should be abolished. Americans regard self-defense as the most compelling reason to have a gun and twenty-two percent of households have handguns in the United States. However many people do think that gun control laws must be enacted and enforced. Pro-gun extremists and the National Rifle Association’s (NRA) must understand that there is a real for many people at the uncontrolled s...
The debate over gun control in America has constantly been brought up over the years due to gunmen killing large amounts of people in shootings. From Columbine to Sandy Hook, or the shootings of the two reporters in West Virginia, these public shootings are occurring everywhere. Lawmakers and civilians alike are pushing for increased gun control in hopes of preventing the same tragedies. Anyone that has been affected by the shootings has been pushing Congress and state governments to force new sanctions on the government. Over the past three years, Congress has shot down all the laws despite the large amounts of public support.
The United States government is attempting to reduce violent crime by controlling the amount of guns on the market, who is allowed to purchase a gun, and what type of gun a person is allowed to purchase. The only people affected by gun control laws are the law-abiding citizens that should be allowed to purchase firearms without the government’s approval. Gun control is a term covering everything from laws prohibiting ownership of a particular type of firearm to ordering gun locks to be included with every firearm sold. Gun control dictates the manufacture, distribution, sale, acquisition, storage, transportation, carrying, and use of firearms in the United States and is regulated by federal, state, and local laws and regulations. It is the United States government’s response to criminal activity.
