It is May, 2017 gasoline prices are low, and everything seems to be going great for gasoline cars. However there is a big competitor rising, it is the electrical vehicle. Sales have risen in the last few years for electrical vehicles, the government and people seem to support it over gasoline cars. At this time the gasoline car is more convenient for its cheaper price and low cost of gasoline. But if the electric vehicles find a way to become cheaper, will they surpass gasoline cars?

Before the existence of internal combustion engines, electric automobiles also held many speed and distance records. Among the most notable of these records was the breaking of the 100 km/h (62 mph) speed barrier, by Camille Jenatzy (1868-1913) on 29 April 1899 in his 'rocket-shaped' vehicle Jamais Contente, which reached a top speed of 105.88 km/h (65.79 mph) [5].
Interest in motor vehicles increased in the late 1890s and early 1900s. Electric battery-powered taxis became available at the end of the 19th century. In 1897 in New York City, the Samuel's Electric Carriage and Wagon Company began running 12 electric cabs. The company ran until 1898 with up to 62 cabs operating until it was reformed by its financiers to form the Electric Vehicle Company [6].

By the early 1900’s, automobiles had become a common sight on the roads of the United States. Edison tried to create an electric battery that could power an electric car. Due to the abundant availability of gasoline, the electric car did not receive the response that Edison hoped for. However, the car battery was a huge success, and still plays a pivotal role in the automobile industry.
The electric car was also challenged by economic factors. Because the EV1 was not being mass-produced, it was never able to benefit from the cost reduction that comes with economies of scale. Because of this, the car was more expensive for consumers, which limited its market to those who could afford it.
The topic of the future has been such a popular subject all of the twentieth century, from the idea of flying cars to robots preforming surgeries. One thing that has taken the media by storm is the takeover of electric cars, and if they really are better than the classic gas guzzler. Electric cars are better than gas powered vehicles because of the miles per gallon difference, maintenance cost and environmental effects. By the 1900's, it was uncertain which type of engine would power the automobile. At first, the electric car was the most popular, but at the time a battery did not exist that would allow a car to move with much speed or over a long distance. Even though some of the earlier speed records were set by electric cars, they did not stay in production past the first decade of the 20th century. The steam-driven automobile lasted into 1920's. However, the price on steam powered engines, either to build or maintain was incomparable to the gas powered engines. Not only was the price a problem, but the risk of a boiler explosion also kept the steam engine from becoming popular. The combustion engine continually beat out the competition, and the early American automobile pioneers like Ransom E. Olds and Henry Ford built reliable combustion engines, rejecting the ideas of steam or electrical power from the start.
