What is Anxiety? Definition According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, anxiety is defined as “Apprehensive uneasiness or nervousness usually over an impending or anticipated ill: a state of being anxious”, but anxiety is different for everyone. “Anxiety comes in many different forms—such as panic attacks, phobia, and social anxiety—and the distinction between an official diagnosis and ‘normal’ anxiety isn't always clear” (MacMillan) Everyone can have some symptoms of anxiety, but that does not precisely mean that you have an anxiety disorder. Before this recognition people experiencing one of these Disorders usually received a generic diagnosis of 'stress' or 'nerves’.” (Tracy & Croft, 2016) There are in fact many different kinds of anxiety disorders including but not limited to; “Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Social Phobia, Panic Disorder, Agoraphobia, Phobias, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder” (CalmClinic) You type of anxiety disorders all depend on your symptoms. Symptoms Once again, anxiety is different for everyone, and that means that everyone’s symptoms are different. “Some common symptoms of anxiety include: nervousness, restlessness, or being tense, feelings of danger, panic, or dread, rapid heart rate, rapid breathing, or hyperventilation.” (Cirino, 2016) It can be quite terrifying to experience these symptoms, because they tend to pop up out of nowhere with no reason. It’s hard to calm down the symptoms of anxiety without truly knowing how, or what works best for you, but just because you have the symptoms does not mean that you particularly have an anxiety disorder. Diagnosis To figure out if you truly have an anxiety disorder, first - “The doctor will begin an evaluation by asking you questions... Although there are no lab tests to specifically diagnose anxiety disorders, the doctor may use various tests to look for other medical illness as the cause of the symptoms. If no other medical illness is found, you may be referred to a psychiatrist, psychologist, or another mental health professional.” (WebMD) Once you get to the office of the mental health professional, the professional will then continue to conduct multiple tests and quizzes to figure out what form of anxiety you have. Once your condition is decided, it is a game of trial and error in order to find treatment options that work for you and your form of anxiety. Cure and treatment options There is a lot of conflict on whether or not there is a cure for anxiety, but it has been proven that through thorough treatment and self-work, you anxiety can be easier to manage.
Many different treatments are available for people with anxiety. It can mainly depend on whether or not you would like to go down a path of medical treatment, or down a path of self natural treatment. To go down the medical path means that you could choose between medication, therapy, or going to a treatment center. The other choice of natural treatment leads to more choices. You have the choice between essential oils of different fragrances, citrus being my personal favorite, you can learn and practice different breathing techniques, you can change your diet, your surroundings can be changed to positive and calm settings. Lately there has been the craze of “toys” that are said to help anxiety and attention disorders. There are options between the fidget spinners, kinetic sand, zen gardens, spinning gyroscopes, two tone spinning rings, fidget cubes, and many more. Anxiety tends to affect people at different stages of life all depending on your genes. It’s common for anxiety to onset during your pubescent years, because of hormonal changes in your body. Anxiety disorders can affect people all the way up to their senior years, but in some cases, anxiety can actually fade away in a year or

Anxiety is a monster that most people have to deal with on a daily basis. Even though anxiety is not actually a monster it still torments thousands of people every day, leaving them weak and scared. Anxiety defined means “distress or uneasiness of mind caused by fear of danger or misfortune” defined by Dictionary.com. In the epic poem of Beowulf, one could say that the townspeople had anxiety when it came to Grendel because they feared what he could do to them.
It is never pleasant to feel anxious or distressed for any reason. However, there are several people who are diagnosed with anxiety disorders as they are very prevalent today. Mental health professionals are helping people overcome hurdles such as panic attacks, severe worry, social anxiety and other specific phobias. I think that anxiety is an emotion that everyone experiences at one time or another in their life. Anxiety can have a negative effect on an individual if it interferes with one’s daily routine and keeps them from doing what they normally do.
Anxiety is a feeling of tension associated with a sense of threat of danger when the source of the danger is not known. In comparison, fear is a feeling of tension that is associated with a known source of danger. I believe it is normal for us to have some mild anxiety present in our daily lives. Everyday that I can think of I have some kind of anxiety though out that day. Anxiety warns us and enables us to get ready for the ‘fight or flight’ response. However, heightened anxiety is emotionally painful. It disrupts a person's daily functioning.
In short the answer is, if it is intense and persistent. Anxiety is a normal thing that all people experience in some capacity but if this does not go away after a certain time period or situation than it may be an anxiety disorder.
Panic disorder is a psychiatric disorder in which debilitating anxiety and fear arise frequently and without reasonable cause. Panic attacks do not happen out of normal fear. Along with being the most widespread mental health disorder, women are more likely to be affected by most anxiety disorders than men. Anxiety disorders are often characterized by feelings of worry, uncertainty, anxiety, or fear, which can be so intense, it can interfere with a person’s daily activities. Therefore, it is likely for a person struggling with an anxiety disorder will find themselves unemployed, financially dependent on others and even have poor quality social relationships as well. As an anxiety disorder may affect other functional impairments, it is also important to be aware of its development considering an anxiety response affects various populations and individuals differently.
There are several types of anxiety disorders. Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) involves excessive worrying, nervousness and tension. With this disorder, there is a constant feeling of dread that shapes your entire life. This type of anxiety doesn’t have the intensity of a panic attack, however lasts longer and makes daily life and relaxing impossible. People with GAD worry that a friendship is in jeopardy if a missed phone call to a friend isn’t returned to them. The thought of getting through the day can cause anxiety. GAD makes people worry excessively and the worrying is constant. These people feel as though their mind is on a nonstop running marathon and there is nothing they can do about it. To help treat GAD there are several self-help tips to follow. One can look at their worries in a new way and understand that worries are triggered and the blame cannot be put on anyone else. People should also observe the quantities of coffee, tea, and chocolate they consume for these substances contains caffeine which is a known anxiety stimulant. Also, people should take caution and only consume medicines proscribed by a qualified medical doctor. This is because majority of medicines and herbal solutions bought over the counter contains chemicals known to cause the anxiety symptoms.

Anxiety is a normal reaction to stress. Every person experiences some form of anxiety in his or her lifetime. Anxiety helps us deal with tense situations like using our flight or fight reaction, study harder for an exam, or keep focus on important deadlines. Anxiety can be useful until it gets to the point of interfering with everyday life. Some people explain it as not being able to shut the anxiety off. When anxiety becomes an excessive, irrational dread of everyday situations, it becomes a disabling disorder (National Institute of Mental Health, 2009). Each year, anxiety disorders affect about 40 million American adults age 18 years and older (National Institute of Mental Health, 2009). There are five major Anxiety Disorders they include Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Panic Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and Phobias.
Anxiety is our body’s reaction to stressful dangerous or unfamiliar situations (“What is Anxiety,” n.d.). Everyone has anxiety at times and this is necessary in human beings but some people have it much worse than others. Anxiety disorder makes life more difficult to cope with, it keeps people from sleeping, socializing with their peers and it makes it hard to concentrate (“What is Anxiety,”n.d.). So, what is the cause of anxiety? How can we tell if a person is suffering from an anxiety disorder? What are the different types of anxiety disorders around us?
The definition of anxiety by the American Psychological Association is, “...an emotion characterized by feelings of tension, worried thoughts and physical changes like increased blood pressure”(APA) Anxiety disorders affect 1 in 8 children, the largest source of the anxiety being stress. An article by the Huffington Post says, “31 percent of teens report feeling overwhelmed as a result of stress, 30 percent say that they feel sad or depressed as a result of stress, and 36 percent report feeling tired
