(3) Non-Profit Sector organization. From 1975, there has been much progress, and the organization has abetted many families around the world. A major milestone would be that they have been able to operate in around “50 countries” (Action Against Hunger (2018). The operation began from just one country and now has expanded all around the world which has led to a path of helping many children and communities. The current CEO of the organization, Action Hunger, is Andrea Tamburini.
Tamburini has the responsibility in getting the mission and/or vison to be completed. Tamburini and the organization’s area of focus is to exterminate hunger from the world. As a result, of their efforts, “14.7 million people in 50 countries have been served” (Action Against Hunger (2018). Having nearly 15 million people being help in 40 years is an outstanding accomplishment. From the 14.7 million people that were helped, there were a variety of forms of helping the community. These forms include: water point improvement, hygiene kits distribution, savory of malnutrition, health and nutrition education, and emergency responds. (Guide Star 2018). Along with a successful focus and having many volunteers and staff who believe in the same goal, in ending hunger, it has allowed the organization to make …show more content…
progress. The location where the organization targets, specifically, those affected by a disaster. Action hunger targets many poor communities. Specifically, the ones in the Eastern side of the world. They include from Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Nepal, Indonesia, Pakistan, Jordan, and Syria to name a few locations (Action Against Hunger (2018)). Although the majority of the countries come from Africa there are a couple of countries that do come from the Westerns side of the world. These countries include: Bolivia, Colombia, Guatemala, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Peru (Action Against Hunger (2018). The organization continues to operate for the sake that there is revenue for funding as well as donors and supporters. The revenue comes from the fundraising events. According to Chary navigator, in the year 2016 the organization made $68,549,313. From the income, fundraising event was responsible for 2% of the income. The rest of the income comes from government grants, which makes up 85.2% of the income, and contributions, gifts & grants, which makes up the remaining amount 12.8% of the income (Charity Navigator (2018)). In addition, Action against hunger, also has many loyal partnerships. The loyal partner consists of corporations, foundations, institutional donors, universities, nongovernment organization” (Action Against Hunger (2018). Some major partners of the organization include: Google, Humble Bundle, Weightwatchers, P&G, and This Bar Saves Lives (Action Against Hunger (2018)). These are just a few of the many corporations that abet Action Hunger in their mission, however there are many more that help out. With their partnerships and funding, the organization was able to accumulate, according to their 990 form, 68.5 million dollars in the year 2016 (Action Against Hunger (2018). Compare to the previous year the organization ended up raising 57 million. So, roughly in the year 2016 it raised around 11.5 million more dollars. Analytical Review (Organizational Strategy/ Plan) According to its official website, the mission of Action Against Hunger is “to save lives by preventing, detecting, and treating undernutrition, particularly during and after disasters and conflicts.
from crisis to sustainability, we tackle the direct and underlying causes of hunger through integrated, holistic solutions” (Action Against Hunger (2018). The purpose, to reiterate, is to basically search and target specific communities where there is poor nutrition, specifically those communities who have had a recent disaster or tragedy.
Unlike the mission statement, the vision statement is very short and simple, just like a vision statement is supposed to be. The vision statement is only one sentence long, and reads as follows, “For a world free from hunger” (Action Against Hunger (2018). The vision statement is broad and general, as well as is short and simple. The core values espoused by Action Against hunger consist of very amicable and leadership traits. Especially, “integrity, creativity empowerment, excellence, and respect” (Action Against Hunger
(PDF)). AAH’s has published its 5-year strategic plan, begins from the year 2016-2020 (AAH Strategic Plan PDF (2016). Their strategic plan consists of specific goals in several key areas. The goals are “to reduce the mortality in children under five years of age, to reduce the prevalence of chronic and acute undernutrition, and to increase the coverage of programs to treat severe acute undernutrition. In addition, in emergencies, to ensure that people’s unmet humanitarian need that are within our areas of expertise are covered, and finally to provide reliable evidence and expertise to improve national and international strategies on under nutrition. (AAH Strategic Plan PDF (2016). The goals of AAH are very reasonable and are attainable. To add on, the goals are specific which is crucial for the reason that it is clear on what must be accomplish. In addition, the goals are also measurable. Every one of the goals has a form of measuring them. An epitome of one of the goals, would be the number of kids that die under five years. If the number is reduced then what it previously was, then the goal would have been successful. Finally, the goals are for a specific time. The goals are for the five-year period which is the length of their strategic plan. The threat of other competition is a major concern, however the form in how Action Against Hunger operates, benefits them in overcoming competition. Many other nonprofits specialized in ending hunger. Although many specialized in this field they target different location such as: the U.S, Europe, or Asia. Knowing this, AAH targets specific countries in where there is no other organization. Africa, for example, was vacant; allowing AAH to operate efficiently. The same process was use thought the other countries to allow them to be the major and/ or only nonprofit operating in that country. Financial planning is also covered within their strategic plan. The financial plan is to aggrandize the number of people that assist as well as increase the profit of the programs by 90% (Action Against Hunger (2018). The plans/goals will be executed properly if the CEO and the board do their roles properly. Their job is to delegate and to confirm that the money is being used accurately as well as staying within their budget. Tamburini, the CEO, was appointed in July 2014 (Action Against Hunger (2018). Since, taking the role as a CEO, he has done so much for the organization. Specifically, he has engendered a “long term strategic plan, a brand new global brand, operation and management structures, and has aggrandize the organization’s influence and partnership with the United Nations (Action Against Hunger (2018). Analytical Review (Financial Management) A review of the Form 990 submitted for the period ended April, 2016 indicated that the nonprofit has a large donor pool. The major donors are: Google, Humble Bundle, Weightwatchers, and P&G. In addition to donations, the nonprofit also earned income from contributions. Specifically, the 3 sources, according to charity navigator are, contributions, gifts and grants (12.8%), fundraising events (2%) and government grants (85.2%). The government provides most of the revenue for the AAH, which is very reliable, but the organization should try to reduce the government help and try to become more independent. Financially, the organization has had one financial challenge in the last couple of years. Their financial challenge is that there is more expense than their income. It occurred in 2015 and reoccur again in 2016. In the year 2016, they over spend 397 thousand dollars over their revenue (Charity Navigator (2018). It was also presented on their 990-form showing that their expenses were higher than revenues. A closer look at their financial ratios was made to examine the profitability and solvency of the organization. The income ratio is 30 % indicated that 30% of the income is used for the debt the organization has. The expense ratio is 1 indicated that for each year 1 % of the total assets are us to cover the expenses. The balance sheet ratio indicates 1forms of ratio. Specifically, the current ratio. The current ratio is 4.4. Their most recent financial statement provided a snapshot of its financial performance. For example, the measurement of the financial resources is also stated on their financial statement. Their plan numbers are based on the previous year. So, 2016 numbers are compared to 2015 numbers. The resources for the programs are broken into sections. The parts are the following: programs service, program support, management and general, and fundraising (Action Against Hunger (2018). Their program service is 86.8%, program support 6.1%, management and general 4.7%, and fundraising 2.4% (Action Against Hunger (2018). The organization also has external credentials. The organization, according to Charity Navigator, has receive four- star rating for twelve years in a row. It began back in 2004 and has remained at four stars consecutively. In addition, it has also received an “A” rating from Charity Watch. Finally, Guide star, as well, gave them an award. They recognize AAH as a Platinum participant. Some organizations to partake in lobbying, however Action Against Hunger does not participate in lobbying. Although they do not participate in lobbying they do, however, participate in tax filing. The organization is required to fill out a tax form. The tax form they are require file is done at the end of the year., which is the 990 forms. The 990 form they fill out, was done in April 2016, takes into account their revenue and all-important aspects such as the balance statement, mission statement, etc.
Both, vision and mission statements provide purpose to organizations. Therefore, they should set the foundation for the strategic planning process. However, if and organizations strategic direction evolves, leaders should consider revising the organization’s mission and vision
The mission, vision, and values for the Food Bank will help the organization in reaching its desired end state by ensuring that the planning process is focused and moving in the direction intended by the organization and it stakeholders. The mission statement provides a unifying purpose for the organization that sets a foundation for developing objectives, decision making, and encapsulates the organization’s business activity. By promoting a sense of shared expectations among all levels and projecting a sense of worth that can be assimilated by outside stakeholders, the mission statement can inspire the organization to reach its desired end state.

The Capital Area Food Bank champions many initiatives to help fight hunger and provide nutritious meals to families in need.
The world hunger is the deadliest disease in the world today, despite the fact that there is more food on earth, but fewer people cannot have access to this food, or even get the opportunity to grow some due to poverty, or lack of good soil to grow crops. World hunger is caused when natural resources become destroyed by earthquakes, or civil war. Another reason is drought and flooding. World hunger is also an issue in undeveloped countries because of political corruption, poverty, environmental issues, overpopulation, economics, and pestilence. It is sad to see people dying from malnutrition, and starvation every second. While we that have it doesn’t seem to appreciate it but waste it instead of helping those that in need of it. As you can see this a real problem, as debated in my visual

Gundersen, Waxman, Engelhard, and Brown (2010) found in their study that 50 million people (including 17 million children) were food insecure in 2010. In the past ten years the world population exceeded six billion people with most of the growth occurring in the poorest, least developed countries in the world. The rapidly increasing population and the quickly declining amount of land are relative and the rate at which hunger is increasing rises with each passing year. We cannot afford to continue to expand our world population at such an alarming rate, for already we are suffering the consequences. Hunger has been a problem for our world for thousands of years. But now that we have the technology and knowledge to stamp it out, time is running short.
In this world there are many different types of challenges faced but individuals in different countries, as people work together to find a way to stop or solve these challenges there are also some challenges or situations that individuals, even as a group, cannot eliminate. The race to reach conclusions of situations is very desirable and is being worked on very efficiently, but one issue that people have mistaken into accomplishing is hunger. Hungry is present everywhere and not a lot of people can satisfy or fulfil that need. Lack of sanitation, unemployment, and unhealthy diet choices these are involved in an imaginary line called the poverty line. The idea of food banks is a good start into eliminating hungry but the process still has a
Hunger is a big issue in the United States and the world. It's a big problem for many families, children and adults. We should fix hunger in the U.S by offering more alternatives or helping out in different ways than are already in place because there are not enough. We can do this by paying other bills like water and electricity or giving money just for food or have meals sent to people who are in need of them. This is true ( Reason number one) because there are already moderately good systems in place but they aren't working well enough because many people are still going hungry. “According to a report by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 49 million people in the United States live in households struggling to find enough food to eat. Nearly
Central Idea: The world has a huge problem with hunger and this problem could be greatly downsized if everyone would donate or volunteer to support charities working to end hunger throughout the world.
Hunger is the most pressing issue we face. One out of every eight people in the world today suffers from chronic undernourishment caused by food scarcity. 19,000 kids die everyday from hunger. The world has more than 1.5 times enough food to feed everyone on this entire planet although with some people making less than two dollars an hour, it is hardly imaginable to be able to. At least the number of people who die everyday of famine is going down every year because more and more people care. We want to keep this number going down not only by the year, but also by the day. If we want this to happen, we have to take action. Now.

In conclusion, fighting food insecurity and poor nutrition among low income families, particularly in developing countries, is a complex task. It requires many different strategies as there are many factors influencing hunger and why it occurs. The three strategies chosen are effective on their own, but implemented together will address many more of the determinants causing this issue. The World Food Programmes strategy is a quick fix when solving this problem and is not sustainable, but alongside Oxfam and MicroLoans strategies, they would all make an extremely positive change in how food insecurity looks today.
This can not be done with the same ineffective tactics that were used in the past, so that’s why people are developing new ways to eradicate hunger. When the Second International Conference on Nutrition (ICN2) was held, they discussed the nutrition component and how important it is that it is not overlooked. By paying attention to nutrient-dense foods and recognizing the different entry points for improving nutrition, the ICN2 argues the world will be one step closer in achieving the Sustainable Development Goal. Some of the entry points they discussed include “the promotion of crop diversification…, strengthening local food production and processing, and exploring regulatory or voluntary instruments for promoting healthy diets” (goals 2). Promoting the nutrition aspect of the goal can help achieve it because nutrients are what keep people alive and
