Save a Life! End World Hunger! Topic: World Hunger Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience to help end world hunger through several charity and volunteer programs. Central Idea: The world has a huge problem with hunger and this problem could be greatly downsized if everyone would donate or volunteer to support charities working to end hunger throughout the world. Type of Speech: Speech of Value (Make a change/ call to action). Introduction: I. How many of you can image being so hungry that you, didn’t have enough energy to talk or even walk? How many of you have went an entire day without eating and feeling like you were about to die? II. Many of us can agree with the feeling of being extremely hungry, but we can never compare our feeling of hunger to other families feeling of hunger in countries throughout the world. III. There are a lot of people around the world who are deprived of the most important essentials to survival and development. IV. I am pretty certain that no one in this room can imagine not being able to provide their family with food on a daily basis. There are people throughout the world who eat what we eat in one week for almost months. Some even have to walk several miles just to retrieve water that is not sanitary to drink. It bothers us to think about these things but there are so many families living in these conditions as I speak. Many of you may be thinking that you cannot do anything about this, but I am here today to tell you can! V. Along with the research I have completed with this topic, I recently visited an organization in Schaumburg, IL called FMSC (Feed My Starving Children) a local organization with seven locations, in the U.S. that provide food to children and families in need of a me... ... middle of paper ... ...eason for it, ways in which you can help end world hunger, and how people as well as you can benefit from choosing to help donate or volunteer to end hunger. You can help save the life of a person suffering from hunger by donating can goods and volunteering to sponsor a child or help hand-pack nutritional meals. III. What if there came a point in your life where you suffered from hunger? What if your last meal was today? Think about how much happiness and satisfaction you will bring to a person who has suffered years from hunger with just by making a simple decision. IV. The world hunger is the deadliest disease in the world today, despite the fact that there is more food on earth, but fewer people cannot have access to this food, or even get the opportunity to grow some due to poverty, or lack of good soil to grow crops. World hunger is caused when natural resources become destroyed by earthquakes, or civil war. Another reason is drought and flooding. World hunger is also an issue in undeveloped countries because of political corruption, poverty, environmental issues, overpopulation, economics, and pestilence. When considering the topic of poverty and hunger, many Americans look outside the borders of the United States. However, food insecurity is an issue that plagues millions of American households each year. The United States Department of Agriculture found that 14.5% of American households faced food insecurity during 2012. These households were defined as having “difficulty at some time during the year providing enough food for all their members due to a lack of resources” (Nord, Singh, Coleman-Jensen).

Hunger is the most pressing issue we face. One out of every eight people in the world today suffers from chronic undernourishment caused by food scarcity. 19,000 kids die everyday from hunger. The world has more than 1.5 times enough food to feed everyone on this entire planet although with some people making less than two dollars an hour, it is hardly imaginable to be able to. Eliminating world hunger is an obtainable goal if a few small steps are put into place, with the focus being on growing more food. There are many options that should be utilized in the effort to end world hunger. If under developed countries were taught how to farm their own food and given even minimal supplies and tools it would eliminate a large percentage of the hunger complication. Education is another important dilemma that relates directly to under nourished countries such as Asia and Africa. Should it be one of our biggest concerns about the world today? Imagine not eating anything for an entire day. Now imagine if your were to never get a proper meal for the rest of your life. One could not possibly imagine being in someone’s position where you are going through poverty and starvation on a daily basis. Then there are people who are picky about their food and choose not to eat it due to its appearance or smell. Everyday people are starving to death and the death toll is increasing daily.
