She sets out to explore the world that welfare mothers are entered. The point was not so much to become poor as to get a sense of the spectrum of low-wage work that existed-from waitressing to housekeeping. She felt mistreated when it was announced that there has been a report on “drug activity”, as a result, the new employees will be required to be tested, as will the current employees on a random basis. She explained feeling mistreated, “I haven 't been treated this way-lined up in the corridor, threatened with locker searches, peppered with carelessly aimed accusations-since junior high school” (Ehrenreich,286). The other problem is that this job shows no sign of being financially viable. Ehrenreich states that there is no secret economies that nourish the poor, “If you can 't put up the two months’ rent you need to secure an apartment, you end up paying through the nose for a room by the week” (286). On the first day of housekeeping, she is yelled and given nineteen rooms to clean. For four hours without a break she striped and remake the beds. At the end of the experience she explained that she couldn 't hold two jobs and couldn 't make enough money to live on with one as where single mothers with children. She has clarified that she has advantages compare to the long-term

Erin has the responsibility to feed and educate her three children and she has a general distrust of people. She begins by forcing her lawyer Ed Masry to give her a secretarial job after he failed to get her a settlement from an auto accident. Ellis’ did not care much for this strike and describes it as a political move. She describes the Miners Union’s decision to join the strike as foolish and believes that the miners were coerced into joining. She wasn’t against strikes in general but didn’t like this one because of how it dragged out and hurt her financially. Following the strike her daughter Joy falls ill with diphtheria. The strikes financial effect, along with medical bills had forced her to start working. This was a particular stressful time in her life and it continued downhill. One day Ellis was getting ready for an upcoming social event and was reading a book to pass the time while her hair curled. Her daughter Joy, laying sick in bed, asked for a drink of water. Ellis tells her other daughter to get Joy a drink. Her other daughter is also reading a book and doesn’t move. Ellis hears a gurgle sound come from her daughters bed, but it was too late her daughter had
The movie Teach was a brilliant, emotional movie that I was in no way expecting. It is a year-in-the-life kind of documentary about teachers and what they go through. It is a movie I can see myself going back to watch time and time again to remind myself just why on Earth I have decided to put myself through the stress of an education major. Teach gave us insight on four teachers who had to learn to adapt and change to meet the needs of their students and still build the relationship they needed to have. None of the teachers were perfect, but then again, there is no such thing as a perfect teacher. “The teacher is the one who gets the most out of the lessons, and the true teacher is the learner.” Elbert Hubbard. The most important thing about
Lawrence Kohlberg theorized that morality has more to do with decisions than fixed behaviors. After studying several groups of people and their responses to certain moral problems, he was able to identify “three main levels of moral reasoning, with two substages within each level” (Passer & Smith, 2011). Prior to coming to West Point, my moral decisions were made along the lines of conventional moral reasoning, the second level, by conforming to the expectations of society. Within this level, I reasoned at stage three where morality is based on winning approval from parents, authority figures, and peers. During my first year of high school, I remember taking the AP World History exam and finding myself wanting to cheat on
Toy Story is the groundbreaking 1995 motion picture developed by Disney and Pixar and directed by John Lasseter. The film was so revolutionary not only because it was the first feature length animation to be created completely by CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) but also, also the film was more rounded in all respects. The characters not only looked more sophisticated and three-dimensional but their personalities were also more human and fewer cartoons like. The film uses a constructed text in order to put across a theme of two very different characters learning to work together beyond their rivalries to rise above a common enemy and work towards a common goal. The film uses characters and imagery very cleverly to portray this theme. The music used in the film is also different to other Disney features. Rather than the characters bursting into song themselves as in Aladdin or Hercules, the songs are played and sung by an outside person (Randy Newman) and reflect the mood and emotions of the characters in a particular scene. For example, the title sequence song “Friend in Me”, when Woody and Andy are playing together, and the scene where Andy’s room has been made over to a Buzz Lightyear theme, “Strange Things” where the song reflects Woody’s confusion and fear not only about the change in his surroundings but also the change in his friends and his own character and self-confidence. The attention to the smallest detail for example the reflections in Buzz’s visor give the film even more realism and depth. The use of unusual and imaginative camera angles, made possible by the use of CGI, also adds to the texture and pace of the film.

As a child I can remember going to church every Sunday, sometimes twice; in the morning and the evening. I would sit in Sunday school and listen to stories from the Bible about right and wrong. As a child I never thought to question the Bible as it was the word of God. My moral compass has roots derived from these standards set forth in the Bible. Lawrence Kohlberg was an American psychologist whose work on moral development identified three major levels (DeGeorge, 22). Little did I know but at the time I was in a pre-conventional development level wherein most of the time I obeyed for fear of God’s punishment and my parents wrath as well.
Lawrence Kohlberg conducted research on the moral development of children. He wanted to understand how they develop a sense of right or wrong and how justice is served. Kohlberg used surveys in which he included moral dilemmas where he asked the subjects to evaluate a moral conflict. Through his studies, Kohlberg observed that moral growth and development precedes through stages such as those of Piaget’s stages of cognitive development. He theorized that moral growth begins at the beginning of life and continues until the day one dies. He believed that people proceed through each stage of moral development consecutively without skipping or going back to a previous stage. The stages of thought processing, implying qualitatively different modes of thinking and of problem solving are included in the three levels of pre-conventional, conventional and post conventional development.
