The movie Teach was a brilliant, emotional movie that I was in no way expecting. It is a year-in-the-life kind of documentary about teachers and what they go through. It is a movie I can see myself going back to watch time and time again to remind myself just why on Earth I have decided to put myself through the stress of an education major. Teach gave us insight on four teachers who had to learn to adapt and change to meet the needs of their students and still build the relationship they needed to have. None of the teachers were perfect, but then again, there is no such thing as a perfect teacher. “The teacher is the one who gets the most out of the lessons, and the true teacher is the learner.” Elbert Hubbard. A teacher must have a relationship with their students, their colleagues, the parents of their students, and just everyone in their building. When one thinks of past teachers, they don 't remember the lessons they were taught, the books they read, or the grades they got. No, what we remember when we think of our old teachers are the relationships we had with them. We remember the jokes, the condolences, the drama, and the smiles. My favorite memory of elementary school wasn 't the learning, though I did enjoy that aspect of my education. What I think about when I think of elementary school are my old teachers. Some I loved, some I hated, some were indifferent, but I can tell you all of their names and a memory I had with them whereas I couldn 't tell you where I sat, what my favorite color was, or what my favorite song was. The movie showed the relationship aspect of teaching throughout the year, something a lot of movies leave out. The relationships were what made the movie so heartbreaking at the end because I know that is something that each teacher deals with. To me, that is when you know that you have made a difference. When it breaks your heart to watch them leave, but at the same time you are filled with such pride for what they have accomplished, that is when you have …show more content…
Students complain all the time about how worn down they are but the documentary shows one thing for sure, teachers get just as worn out. The movie showed Joel spending endless nights and many cups of coffee grading papers and we saw the teachers feel like they were not making any progress. We watched Shelby nearly break down because she felt she wasn 't making any progress. This is just yet another reminder that teachers have to persevere through so much. Teachers have their own families and friends and personal issues to work through while still grading papers for hundreds of students. I know that teachers deal with much more than they show their students. I can count on one hand the number of times I have ever seen a teacher cry. Teachers deal with more than most people. They have the stress of all of their students looking up to them as well as their own problems that that have to push aside to teach they way they need
The film Jindabyne, is a story about death, marriage, and race in an Australian town in New South Wales called Jindabyne. In the film, four men go fishing, and one of them discovers the dead body of a young indigenous girl. Instead of reporting what they found to the police immediately, they decide to stay and continue fishing. They decide that there is nothing they could do for her, so they tie her legs to a tree and continue with their fishing, reporting the death only when they return home. After they are done with their weekend of fishing and report the incident, conflict starts, as the men are criticized for not respecting the dead. Through the story of the town’s reaction to the four fishermen’s response to the dead girl, the movie shows Australia to be fragmented and divided over white-indigenous relations.
Flowers reminds of my relationship with my high school business teacher, Mr. Peterkin. We would always talk sports inside of class and outside of class. He always wanted to know my opinion on what was going on in the sport world. He would also help with my other classes. For example, my senior capstone project, he help me get my presentation ready, which was my final. He gave pointers on what I should and shouldn’t do during the presentation. I had to present in front a random panel. My panel was the superintendent of my school district, my current math teacher, and a history teacher. I got a 100 on my presentation. Mr. Peterkin helped made my life easier and fun in and out of his class during the last two years of high school. But I had another teacher, who had a negative impact on me. She was my chemistry teacher. One time I went to her for help and she told me she can’t because she told me that she can only focus on my AP classes after telling the telling my class that she would be willing to help us. I hated her. When we weren’t doing labs, she would lecture the time I almost did not pass her class. I ended up with 65 average for the year. The harm that this teacher did was that I have no interest in taking a science a class again. I overcame this person’s negative attitude by not take another science class again because after barely passing chemistry, I told myself that I will never take a science class
In the first scene of the movie Erin is giving a job interview where she has no relevant experience and qualification . Here Erin is motivated by the stage 1 and 3 of Kohlberg’s model of moral development as she is she wants the job to ‘Ethics of Care’ as she is concerned for her kids.
This is an example of teachers being left out of the conversation about education. Often times when there is an attempt to make change in education, the leaders and main participants are rarely teachers. Public school teachers did not have the opportunity to share their perspective on the proposed issues in public education and did not offer their ideas to the solutions. Furthermore, without the perspective of teachers, the plot of the movie was unfair because some of blame for failing schools was placed on teachers, and they did not have the chance to respond. Additionally, the experience of teachers could offer first-hand insight on what could help improve public
Teachers are put in situations that are not fair to them. Parents have become less involved in their children’s educations; they sadly expect schools and teachers to do their job. It is not the schools or the teacher’s jobs to raise the children; it is their job
The Associate is an entertaining movie that brings forth gender disparities in the workplace. Whoopi Goldberg, Laurel Ayers, portrays a financial analyst who has been stuck in a position that does not give her true credit for all of her hard work and talents. The Associate exemplifies the sexism that is occurring in the workplace through satiric wit and a strong story line.
In a society where kids must go to school up to the collegiate level, teaching is an impactful career choice. Teachers help contour the minds of future leaders of the world. Furthermore, teachers play a crucial role in guiding students to the knowledge, skills, and abilities they need to succeed in life, and teachers lead students to make informed decisions on any topic the meet in the future. As a teacher, a person must relinquish their knowledge onto students. Finally, they must prepare their students for all the obstacles they will face later in life.
First, all great teachers strive to make a connection to their students like how Mr. Keating did. I believe that to make students do great things, teachers must have a relationship with the students. If I want to have a successful teaching career, I must shape minds like Mr. Keating, and not be an authoritarian like Mr. Nolan or the other administration. Obviously, the result of the movie is extremely sad and not ideal, I believe students should be taught to think for themselves and taught to keep learning throughout life. Although society may be resistant, I must help students become self-determining people who stand up for what is right, and aren’t afraid of going against the status quo. As the movie shows, sometimes the fate of teachers who do this is grim. Yet, I still believe that it is a teacher’s duty to give students the resources to be their own people. True change in this world can only happen if teachers are fostering a classroom of personal growth and acceptance. I am focused on making sure I urge my future students to leave their mark and seize the day. Although I may not do it in such a dramatic way as Mr. Keating, I hope that all the students that leave my classroom will feel confident that they can take on the world, and life self-fulfilled
As an education major at State College, I’ve decided to become a teacher for several reasons. As I progressed through elementary, middle, and high school, many of my teachers were great role models for me. This has inspired me to become a role model for someone in the near future. My love for science and math has also influenced my desire to teach and make a difference in a child’s life. I want to teach students the subjects that I love so much. I want the feeling that I helped a child accomplish or learn something they couldn’t understand. One of the main reasons I want to become an educator is because I feel education has really lost teachers who truly love teaching and those who truly love teaching and those who have the desire to make a difference. I feel I can really help make a difference in the education world and bring back the love to teach.
In my life, my favorite teachers were always the ones who taught lessons inside and outside the classroom. They taught us about our past, our language and the world around us for tests and quizzes while also teaching us how to navigate through life with their lessons that weren’t needed for our grades. For me, I wanted to be that kind of person. I knew I wanted to help others when they needed help, and I knew I wanted to do that as a teacher.
Teachers serve as the guiding force in a student’s life. They are responsible for molding a student’s personality and shaping his/her mental orientation. Teachers deeply impact our lives and direct the course of our future. One cannot deny the influence of teachers in one’s life. In fact, it would not be an exaggeration to say that, till a certain age, out life revolves around our teachers. They are our constant companions, until we grow old enough to come out of their shadow and move ahead on our own.
Being a teacher is not an easy task as many people could think. To be a teacher does not only imply to know the subject to be taught, it also includes being willing to constantly improve oneself integrally, as much as updating the resources and materials one uses in teaching. Reflecting and analyzing over and over again the best way to teach to learn and how to make students to extend what has been learned. The many hours spend in the classroom will never be enough to plan lessons, prepare materials, review pupils tasks and exams, as well, all the administrative requirements one has to cover for whatever institution we work. Besides all this a good teacher, a professional one, will have to find the time to keep preparing to improve oneself.
Training future teachers is an important part in a good school system because it gives future teachers superior and inferior examples of how to teach. In college, teachers in training will only use textbooks to study. One problem with only learning how to teach through textbooks is teachers can’t see the process of teaching, they only read it. Cameras also benefit teachers because it shows them how they teach. Thomas Roberts an administrator at Hafen Elementary School in Nevada quotes what some teachers’ feedback is, “‘I didn’t know I leaned to the right when I speak. I didn’t know I focused more on the girls than the guys’” (Gray). By seeing and knowing what each teachers’ learning styles are, they can try to fix anything they don’t like. For instance, if a teacher realizes they lecture too long th...
For some reason or another certain students are drawn to particular teachers while other students are more fond of others. In my life I have studied under three memorable teachers. Teachers with which I was able to connect, to laugh, to share my misgivings. While I may have been close with each of these teachers, it is very clear, in retrospect, that each was very unique, and represented an entirely different class of teacher.
A teacher holds the key to knowledge, success, and fun. Every child deserves a teacher that understands and accommodates different
