In the music video “Same Love” by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, a boy’s life from when he was first-born all the way to his wedding, shows the emotions he has from trying to hide his sexuality. The song expresses the struggles and truth behind the judgment of homosexuals. The song being a tremendous supporter of all homosexuals. The quality of production, how the message is shown, and the different view points are some of the ways Ben Haggerty’s “Same Love” has affected his viewers. Same Love has talented directors, actors, and artists involved in the music video and made the production quality of the video is wonderfully done. It was professionally produced and relatable. The video was focused and the sound was clear. The singer’s diction
Another reason why Macklemore’s “Same Love” music video received such high praise. The message displayed in the video is like no other song before. The creative idea of not starting the music until the baby’s life had started. This effect builds up the anticipation for the song. It shows that all people come into this world the same and proves that we are all equal. “`The fact that a song solely dedicated to the message of marriage equality is climbing the charts and quickly becoming a popular song across the country is a big deal,` said Charlie Joughin” (McKinley, par. 3). The song itself expresses the struggles of acceptance of homosexuals. There are not a lot of people who are open to this kind of lifestyle and Ben Haggerty expresses the life of a homosexual in the music video and song lyrics causing it to be an original masterpiece. This is a one-of-a-kind song. There aren’t many hit songs about homosexuals, and none about marriage equality, but this one is. It supports gay marriage and tries to show the world the point of view of a homosexual and states wonderful and very true facts. The message expresses a problem that has been around for a very long time, equal rights, and it is something that people agree. The song is not directed to just homosexuals. Same Love speaks to everyone who has ever judged, stood by, or didn’t understand homosexuality. It is a song made to help everyone
This part of the video persuades the audience to trust that the singer knows what it is like to be under stress from
It could be from Gay rights to Civil rights, Humans in general face a struggle of being considered an equal by peers and family members. It shares a similar story of how you shouldn’t give up even when you’re discouraged and oppressed. It also shows that he’s fighting for a dream to be known as equal just like the mother.
Overall the film was a very informative film for a more homophobic audience. The content was relatable and connected well with the information and discussions that have been within our society for a long time. It was a well-done film that really questions the homophobic opinions and while this is still a very real debate in today’s society the film does a great job at arguing the homophobic opinions.
...ley’s admiration towards ‘Drover’ with their desirable love developing over time. Luhrmann contrasts the audience with the emotional expressions and differing body language, which is significantly visually depicted The non-diegetic music tempo speeds up, creating a dramatic tension and signifying the importance of the couple’s connection and emphasises on their emotional intensity.
...with the relaxing style, the delivery also enhances the success of the rhetorical aspects. By keeping the song at a slower tempo, the listener is able to hear the song’s message and meaning at its entirety. The structure, style, and delivery of “Same Love” all work together seamlessly to ensure the success of the song.
Love, as with all other things, brings pain and suffering. Suffering is an emotion individuals encounter everyday, some more than others. “How to Watch Your Brother Die”, Michael Lassell uses point of view, dialogue, and contrast of language to better exemplify the challenges of homosexuality in today’s society through the eyes of an orthodox straight man, and how the death of a homosexual brother has influenced the main character’s attitude towards his brother, his brother’s lover, and life itself.
If we just simply look at the video from a viewer’s perspective, we will just see a poor farmer boy falling in love with a rich and powerful girl. We must look further than just the basic of the video and pay attention to the behind the scenes meanings of each image and object. In the last couple of seconds of the video, we see Nintuda preparing the time and place for where Hunabatum and Kullasina-Bel will meet to confess their love for each other. She prepares a nice rug on the floor of a room in the Ziggurat. This represents the bridal sheet and represents the high priestess preparing the holy bed where Dumuzi and Inanna come together. When Kullasina-Bel makes his way to the temple, he is carrying with him Billy the Goat to take as an offering to Hunabatum. This is one of the most powerful scenes in the video because it depicts exactly when King Dumuzi brings many offerings to Queen Inanna to prove that he is worthy of her. Once Hunabatum and Kullasina-Bel meet, there is an instant energy that rejoices their hearts and makes them fall in love with each other. Just as the music video ends, we hear two last lines of the song which utter “Let it flow from eat to mouth, Hunabatum and Kullasina-Bel kiss sensually with no doubt” (Hymns 36). This last clip seals the theme of the video as a scared union between both Hunabatum and Kullasina-Bel as they follow the same foundations of Dumuzi and Inanna and where they
For years, LGBT issues weren’t as accepted as it is now. Many things in the media, books, and music excluded Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender people, and the few that did, didn’t help the movement as much. You have books that kill off lesbian characters, gay men were stereotypicality feminine, nobody believed in bisexuality, and transgendered people lived their lives as drag queens. The lives of LGBT were kept a secret, nobody knew what would happen if this secret was revealed. Now, we have gained knowledge and started treating LGBT in the media better, not as great as it should. The song, “Born This Way”, by Lady Gaga brings the issue of pro-LGBT and self-love front and center for the world to listen when analyzed using a cultural lens.
The purpose of this paper is to present my initial reaction of the video, discuss touch and intimacy, provide insightful interpretations of Morrie, and analyze the significance of quotes from the
Within the early 1990s there is a rise in queer culture that many people did not know for what it was. At first, the United States thought it was problematic because it was an invasion on the home-front and the country is trying to figure out its own identity culturally, which led to the “culture” wars. The idea of culture wars was that historically U.S. had problems defining itself culturally through popular media such as music, television, and film. Music was a popular medium that the U.S. tried to define itself culturally, but the music video of Madonna’s “Like a Prayer” where she is combining explicit sexual references with religious idols. In addition to this being gay was not accepted within the early 1990s and was problematic because it was not widely accepted by the general public. Within the early 1990s it is represented through queer culture which is similar to gay, but was different at the same time. Taken from an anthropological approach Michael Moffatt references from Kath Weston’s book about gay culture being entirely different from how we normally perceive it (Moffatt). In the state of “California gay and lesbian c...
Lyfe Jennings is a song writer that is known for inspiring his audience through his lyrics. The song “S.E.X.” is written by Lyfe Jennings. Analyzing the lyrics from the philosophical approach will show that Jennings believes that teen girl’s should abstain from sex. Analyzing the lyrics using the sociological approach will show that he believes sex impacts girls in negative way. These two approaches reveal that Jennings believes teen girls are not ready for sex. Both approaches share common issues with the emotions, the health, and the future of teen girls. In the philosophical approach Jennings believes that the emotions of sex can be overbearing. In the sociological approach Jennings believes sex affects a girl’s self-esteem. Self-esteem and emotions are related. Strong emotions that cause pain and anger can decrease a girl’s self-esteem and lead to depression. This is why Jennings writes “[h]old on, to your innocence [u]se your common sense [y]ou’re worth waiting for [b]e strong [h]oney don’t give in [b]lessing come with patience [u]ntil we meet again, I’m praying, for you” (lines 47-53). The approaches also share the issue of health. The philosophical approach shows that Jennings believes teen girls are not ready for the consequences of
I’m writing my Poetry Analysis over gay rights and equal rights for love. I picked the song “Same Love” by Macklemore. His real name is Ben Haggery he born June 19, 1983 in Seattle, Washington. Career began in 2000 but really became popular in 2012 with release of "The Heist". I love this song because it it has a great meaning to LGBT community and sends out a great message to everyone and informing them that it’s okay to be gay and to embrace it and love yourself.
I really enjoyed watching the music video too. The music video had a shot of a single mother that seemed depressed, this emphasized the effect of irresponsible men. It kind of seems like the men in the video are saying sorry as they gather around Tupac and have their hands up. It looks like they are asking god for forgiveness. Aside from the video this is one the most sensitive and woman-loving track in rap. The message was to respect our women since not many did. Tupac grew up with no father so he relied on his mom and aunts to raise him. He gives a lot of credit to them and wants everybody else to respect women like the way he does. If you got time, hear this motivational song that might turn you into a Tupac fan
Feeling the warmth when they hold a loved one is something for which people should not be judged. It should not matter what sex their partner is because, put simply, they are in love. The gay rights movement is a continuing procession that fights for their rights. The gay rights movement actually begins on November 11, 1950 when gay rights activist Harry Hay founds America’s first national gay rights organization by the name of Mattachine Society, according to the “Timeline: Milestones in the American Gay Rights Movement”. Their leaders or people who advanced their purpose are Harvey Milk, Harry Hay, LGBT, or lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transsexual groups. This purpose is to stop intolerance and, ultimately, gain the right of and benefits of marriage. The gay rights movement is embodied in “What We Want, What We Believe,” which shows that even though the group was not seen, or given rights, that in time with their unity they would gain equality. It is a manifesto that states what the entirety of the LGBT groups want. Moreover, no one should feel the shunning of discrimination or hatred for whom they love because of what sex they are.
Gay, Faggot, Dyke, and Butch are a few examples of gay slurs that society has used in negative light. “’Man, that’s gay’ gets dropped on the daily/we become so numb to what we’re saying/call each other faggots…/gay is synonymous with the lesser” (Macklemore Ln 35-36, 39). These lyrics identify how we as a society make the idea of being gay a bad thing. When he says that gay is synonymous with the lesser, he is saying that society thinks that because you are gay, you are lesser than everyone else. It’s the same idea that woman and black people have gone through in history. Black people were believed not to have a choice because they were below white men and the same idea went for woman as well until people fought for their rights. He wants us to realize that this war for gay rights has already happened in different forms: “It’s the same hate that’s caused wars from religion/gender to skin color, the complexion of your pigment” (Macklemore Ln 40-41). He also adds imagery to this statement by showing images from the past of a black and white woman running at the beach and laughing together and the American flag flowing. The image of the flag is shown because it is supposed to represent freedom but for a homosexual person, it restricts them from being who they
