This painting lacked any chiaroscuro and the shadowing is only enough to show the positioning of the objects in the artwork. Tenebrism is not focused on in this painting but the artist used a light enough background to detract the viewers from focusing on the less important features such as the sky. Local colors are the natural hues that are realistic to the human eye. Hue is an artistic way of saying color. Intensity refers to how saturated a color is. It is as if there is so much light in the picture that there is no room for shadow that can be as sharp and chiaroscuro. The color of the shadows are very light. It continues with the theme of cool colors contrasting against the brighter, bolder warm colors. The shadows use a duller blue, almost purple as the shadow. Even though, at first glance, Dali’s painting seems random, everything has a general connection. Even the centered images are physically connected. The viewer can see every single brush stroke resulting in a unique approach to the capturing human emotion. Because of the deliberate choice to entangle the colors on the brush it creates a new muddy palate skewed throughout the canvas. Moving from the thick waves of hair, Neel abandons the thick painting style of the physical portrait and moves to a looser more abstract technique to paint the background. Despite the lack of linear perspective, Neel uses a dry brush technique for the colorful streaks in the background creating a messy illusion of a wall and a sense of space. The outstanding Simplemente Bellas by Mabel Poblet Pujols is a 2-D art piece, located in Tampa Museum of Art, in downtown Tampa. Tampa Museum of Art is free to students, and is a great home to many spectacular forms of 2-D and 3-D art. The first glance at this wonderful work of art, I quickly decided this would be the piece I would write my humanities paper on. During my first visit to this museum, Simplemente Bellas was immediately the first work of art to have caught my eye. At first, it changes your perspective, due to the fact it is a three-dimensional piece on top of a two-dimensional canvas. This piece is beyond beautiful. Anything from a police man leaning on a wall that gets lost in the crowd on busy days to a cleaning lady next to a garbage can. Duane creates life like art pieces that you can lose the fact that they are fake. The amount of detail along with the expressions on the figures’ faces tells the tale. Color is used to draw attention to important characters and objects in the painting. The red of Mary’s shirt emphasizes her place as the main figure. A bright, yellow cloud floating above the room symbolizes the joy of the angelic figures. De Zurbaran uses warm colors in the foreground. The room, used as the background for the scene, is painted in dark colors utilizing different hues of gray and brown.
The pictures say a lot, however, with petite information. The artwork she displays are somehow complex, and one gets to understand their meaning over time as she uses vivid imagination to bring out facts and fiction together.
The contrasts between depth and surface, figure and landscape, promiscuity and modesty, beauty and vulgarity all present themselves in de Kooning’s Woman and Bicycle. Although the figure is a seemingly normal woman out for an afternoon with her bike, she becomes so much more through the artist’s use of color, contrast, and composition. The exotic nature of woman presents itself in her direct stare and slick buxom breasts in spite of a nearly indiscernible figure. It is understood that, on the whole, de Kooning did not paint with a purpose in mind, but rather as an opportunity to create an experience, however, that does not go to say that there isn’t some meaning that can come of this work. Even Willem de Kooning once said that art is not everything that is in it, but what you can take out of it (Hess p.144).

Indeed, these visual clues are just as important as any other interpretation or meaning of a work, for they allow us to understand just what that deeper meaning is. The expression on a statue’s face tells us the emotion and message that the artist is trying to convey. Its color, too, can provide clues: darker or lighter colors can play a role in how we judge a piece of art. The type of lines used in a piece can send different messages. A sculpture, for example, may have been carved with hard, rough lines or it may have been carved with smoother, more flowing lines that portray a kind of gentleness.
When first approaching this work, one feels immediately attracted to its sense of wonder and awe. The bright colors used in the sun draws a viewer in, but the astonishment, fascination, and emotion depicted in the expression on the young woman keeps them intrigued in the painting. It reaches out to those who have worked hard in their life and who look forward to a better future. Even a small event such as a song of a lark gives them hope that there will be a better tomorrow, a thought that can be seen though the countenance by this girl. Although just a collection of oils on a canvas, she is someone who reaches out to people and inspires them to appreciate the small things that, even if only for a short moment, can make the road ahead seem brighter.

During his journey as a young artist before finding his home in the realm of surrealism, Dali had experiences with other styles of painting such as realism, impressionism and cubism. According to the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language Realism is “The representation in art or literature of objects, actions, or social conditions as they actually are, without idealization or presentation in abstract form.” Dali exemplifies this in his painting Basket of Bread (1926). Another style used in his earlier times was impressionism; “A theory or style of painting originating and developed in France during the 1870s, characterized by concentration on the immediate visual impression produced by a scene and by the use of unmixed primary colors and small strokes to simulate actual reflected light” (American Heritage Dictionary), this style is used in the View of Cadaques” (1904). In the “Honey is Sweeter than Blood” we see Dali exemplify cubism, which is “a nonobjective school of painting and sculpture developed in Paris in the early 20th century, characterized by the reduction and fragmentation of natural forms into abstract, often geometric structures usually rendered as a set of discrete planes” (American Heritage Dictionary).
As I turned away from The Doll Man I immediately was taken in by this self -portrait. Although, the lighting was not very well. It was placed between the tow entrances into the Gioconda and Joseph King Gallery. The painting measured approximately at 4 ft. by 10 ft. The painting is representational and depicts animals and human. The bright red colors and dark features in the background made it stand out. Stopped time, implied space, and texture were also important elements of this painting. As the girl is sitting on the chair with a gaze in her eyes, the gorilla standing behind the chair with a look of concern and uncertainty in its eyes. It doesn’t want to step up in front of the chair and show it’s self completely. There is something to hide. It represents what is actually felt, the truth. Whatever it is, it is not to be revealed. The wolf standing by the girl’s feet has a particular look and is a loner; doesn’t want anyone to get too close. The wolf is there to ensure the hidden, the gorilla, doesn’t show it’s self.
These works may be labeled objectifying also because a male painter painted them. Today, these works could be seen as empowering to women. The first painting gives off an emotional ride of one duplicated woman or two women. The second painting shows an emotional journey of prayer and relaxation of a woman sitting in the lotus position. The third painting could represent a strong and empowered women respecting herself and her body.
