The outstanding Simplemente Bellas by Mabel Poblet Pujols is a 2-D art piece, located in Tampa Museum of Art, in downtown Tampa. Tampa Museum of Art is free to students, and is a great home to many spectacular forms of 2-D and 3-D art. The first glance at this wonderful work of art, I quickly decided this would be the piece I would write my humanities paper on. During my first visit to this museum, Simplemente Bellas was immediately the first work of art to have caught my eye. At first, it changes your perspective, due to the fact it is a three-dimensional piece on top of a two-dimensional canvas. This piece is beyond beautiful. There, the inmates attended an art class, and created these red plastic flowers, found in Poblet’s art-piece, out of recycled materials. It is known that one is very limited supplies in prison, so Poblet was moved by just how creative the women there were. The inmates were affected in Simplemente Bellas, as Poblet found inspiration in these women. They were her motif in Simplemente Bellas, because they showed such creativity. This is what makes her work so much more appealing to the eye. Simplemente Bellas caught my interest over all the other art pieces throughout the museum. Poblet was moved by the hard-work these women put into producing those red plastic flowers. Poblet uses symbolism here, as the female inmates represent the many flowers in Poblet’s work, while the flowers symbolize beauty, as well as identity and freedom. This was the theme, or idea, that she was trying to portray to her viewers. The face of the women in the art-piece is said to depict one of the inmates Poblet had met during her visit. This gave me a better understanding about Mabel Poblet as a person as well as an artist. She saw those women as more than just captive inmates. If someone can see beyond another’s flaws and mistakes, they must be a very kind-hearted person. It is considered a baroque, as it is an art piece that appeals to our emotions. When that room is entered all voices are hushed, and all merriment silenced. The place is as holy as a church. In the centre of the canvas is the Virgin Mother with a young, almost girlish face or surpassing loveliness. In her eyes affection and wonder are blended, and the features and the figure are the most spiritual and beautiful in the world's art.

The painting depicts a mother and her four children, who are all leaning on her as she looks down solemnly, her tired, despondent expression suggests she felt trapped in her roles as being a mother and a wife. The woman and her children are clearly the focal point of the artwork as the bright colours used to paint them stand out impeccably against the dull, lifeless colours of the background. This painting appears to be centred around the ideology that women are home-keepers, whose main role is to satisfy and assist her husband while simultaneously minding the children and keeping the home tidy and ready for his return. The social consequences of this artwork could have been that the woman could have been berated for not taking pleasure out of being a mother and raising her children, as a woman should. “The Four Seasons” by Leon Frederic was the most stood out painting in the Philadelphia Museum of Art. “The Four Seasons” is named appropriately to describe the meaning after the oil paintings. When I look at these oil paintings I see or think about the different seasons we have in a year, and the change it brings to the nature. This particular art piece by Leon Frederic seems to be about the different seasons and what makes each of them different. “The Four Seasons” shows the different seasons by the color used in the backgrounds, different types of nature used, and also the different expressions shown on the girls face.
By paying attention to elements such as subject matter, light, form, and placement of figures, we can see how these enhance the ideals depicted by each form of art. As a result, we can understand how Neo-Classical art is an attempt to counter the values of Rococo. Rococo is a form of art directly targeted to the privileged. Because not everyone in society belongs to the aristocracy, the Neo-Classicist wanted to impose order as an alternative to the frivolous life style. As a result, we have to works of art that challenge each other’s ideals. The theme of infidelity versus loyalty and how one arrives at the decision made is animated in the works of Fragonard and David. However, it is important to note that there is no right or wrong form of art, although it may seem that this was the common perception of the time. In conclusion, both works of are similar in one important aspect; they are both works of art.
Aristotle once claimed that, “The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance.” Artists, such as Louise-Elizabeth Vigée Le Brun and Mary Cassatt, captured not only the way things physically appeared on the outside, but also the emotions that were transpiring on the inside. The composition of this painting forces the eye to the woman, and specifically to her face. Although the white wedding dress is large and takes up most of the woman’s figure, the white contrasts with her face and dark hair, forcing the viewer to look more closely into the woman’s face. She smokes a cigarette and rests her chin on her hands. She does not appear to be a very young woman and her eyes are cast down and seem sad. In general, her face appears to show a sense of disillusionment with life and specifically with her own life. Although this is apparently her wedding day, she does not seem to be happy.

Tania Bruguera is a performance, installation, and video artist. She was born and grew up in Havana Cuba; and she currently works in New York and Havana. Cuba has the toughest laws regarding freedom of expression. These laws are the reason Tania creates the works she does. Her goal is to attack the control the Cuban government has on communication of the people. She often encourages involvement from her audience. Tania explores outlets for the people of Cuba to express themselves without fear, and she pushed boundaries set by the government of the country she was born in.
The gestural and heavy working of the paint and the contrasting colors make the painting appear active yet are arduous to follow. The defining element of Woman and Bicycle is the presence of the black lines that do most of the work in terms of identifying the figure. Through the wild nature of the brushwork, color, and composition of the painting, it can be implied that the artist is making an implication towards the wild nature of even the most proper of women.
Though most works of art have some underlying, deeper meaning attached to them, our first impression of their significance comes through our initial visual interpretation. When we first view a painting or a statue or other piece of art, we notice first the visual details – its size, its medium, its color, and its condition, for example – before we begin to ponder its greater significance. Indeed, these visual clues are just as important as any other interpretation or meaning of a work, for they allow us to understand just what that deeper meaning is. The expression on a statue’s face tells us the emotion and message that the artist is trying to convey. Its color, too, can provide clues: darker or lighter colors can play a role in how we judge a piece of art. The type of lines used in a piece can send different messages. A sculpture, for example, may have been carved with hard, rough lines or it may have been carved with smoother, more flowing lines that portray a kind of gentleness.

In an empty room at the Timken Museum of Art hangs one of the most iconic paintings of Johannes Vermeer, the astonishing painting, Woman in Blue Reading a Letter. In the painting a pale woman’s stands patiently while reading a letter. The woman appears to be wearing a blue jacket and a long gray skirt, and only gazing at the letter, ignoring all of her surroundings. The top right of the painting seems to be a map of the Netherlands, which attracts the viewer because it explains the setting of where the painting took place. The blue jacket around the woman’s torso appears to exaggerate the woman’s stomach, giving the impression that she might be pregnant. The blue chairs resemble a sign of absence as if she lives alone. The light on the top left shines on her face which enhances the viewer’s view of the woman’s facial expression. Johannes Vermeer’s interpretation of complex colors, the light, and her body language inflicts a persuasion on the viewer that the women is traumatized by the news in the letter.
When first approaching this work, one feels immediately attracted to its sense of wonder and awe. The bright colors used in the sun draws a viewer in, but the astonishment, fascination, and emotion depicted in the expression on the young woman keeps them intrigued in the painting. It reaches out to those who have worked hard in their life and who look forward to a better future. Even a small event such as a song of a lark gives them hope that there will be a better tomorrow, a thought that can be seen though the countenance by this girl. Although just a collection of oils on a canvas, she is someone who reaches out to people and inspires them to appreciate the small things that, even if only for a short moment, can make the road ahead seem brighter.
As the seventeenth century began the Catholic Church was having a hard time bringing back the people who were swept away by the protestant reformation. The conflict between the protestant had a big influence on art. (Baroque Art) The church decided to appeal to the human emotion and feeling. They did so by introducing a style called Baroque. Baroque was first developed in Rome and it was dedicated to furthering the aims of Counter Reformation. Baroque was first used in Italy than later spread to the north. In this paper I will argue that the Italian Baroque pieces were more detailed and captured the personality of the figure, in contrast and comparison to Northern Baroque pieces that aimed to produce a sense of excitement and to move viewers in an emotional sense leaving them in awe. I will prove this by talking about the different artwork and pieces of Italian Baroque art versus Northern Baroque Art.
