Ron Mueck has a particular unique set of skills from the commercial world that he can apply to his art. The amount of surface detail Ron uses in his work brings the audience closer and personal to their feelings of emotions. This is achieved by the detail that he displays with scarps or cuts, the vein’s on a hand which causes the spectator to be mesmerized by the art. When you stare at his art for a long period of time, you will then begin to understand the beauty accompanied with the elegance of his style. Playing with scale, sets the audience up for an experience of an emotional shock that will mentally disrupt our understanding. Making a life size scale of someone or something seems to boring for Ron. The technique Ron uses is interesting in the sense that he creates these mannequins that are extremely hyperrealistic that when you are in the presence of one of them, you may believe that they are alive. Even know they could stand anywhere from 1 to 8 feet high. Evan Penny takes a completely different approach to hyperrealism. He manipulates the space where the object resides in. This technique shows the audience that a 3D space can change with the right type of effect on a sculpture. Anything from a police man leaning on a wall that gets lost in the crowd on busy days to a cleaning lady next to a garbage can. Duane creates life like art pieces that you can lose the fact that they are fake. The amount of detail along with the expressions on the figures’ faces tells the tale. The spectator creates a relationship to the piece because its the familiar look or feeling they receive from the experience. Duane uses the figures’ as they are portrayed to accomplish an everyday ordinary person moreover with that technique displays the ability to relate the viewers to the art
The American artist Fred Tomaselli arranges pills, leaves, insects and cutouts of animals and body parts to create his pieces of art. His incorporation of items are arranged to suggest a level of perception along with a heightened visual experience. This gives me, the viewer, a sense of Energy. The perception of color that Fred uses gives a gravitating feel. If you take a look at the heart of this piece you can instantly visualize the different items Fred incorporates into the piece.
People usually expect to see paintings and sculptures in Art Galleries. Imagine the surprise one finds when they are presented with a man stitching his face into a bizarre caricature, or connected to a machine which controls the artist’s body. These shocking pieces of performance art come under the broad umbrella that is Postmodernism. Emphasis on meaning and shock value has replaced traditional skills and aesthetic values evident in the earlier Modernist movements.

Though people can look into color and composition, others can still even look into the source of the art itself. Cole goes deeper, delving into the source of the art, looking in particular into the idea of cultural appropriation and the view a person can give others. Though it is good for people to be exposed to different opinions of a group or an object, sometimes people can find it difficult to tell the difference between the reality and the art itself. Sometimes art can be so powerful that its message stays and impacts its audience to the point where the viewer’s image of the subject of the art changes entirely. Cole brings up an important question about art, however. Art has become some kind of media for spreading awareness and even wisdom at times, but in reality, “there is also the question of what the photograph is for, what role it plays within the economic circulation of images” (973). Cole might even be implying that Nussbaum’s advertisement can sometimes be the point of some media, and that sometimes the different genres of art can just be to make someone with a particular interest happy. One more point that Cole makes is that “[a]rt is always difficult, but it is especially difficult when it comes to telling other people’s stories.” (974) Truthfully, awareness and other like-concepts are difficult to keep going when a person or a group is not directly involved.
Even the faces of the men in the foreground appear to be wax like and flat. One of the least successful faces in the piece is that of the practitioner who is in the lower right corner of the piece, closest to the bottom edge. His face only contains three distinct values of skin tone, which makes his face appear one dimensional and lifeless. Furthermore, his left hand seems to be awkwardly placed and disproportionate in its length in comparison to the dimensions of his face. While his left hand flows somewhat with his body and reflects the style of the rest of the piece, his right hand, which is much lighter in color as if it somehow managed to catch all the light from an unknown light source, shows no consistency with the artist’s technique. It is bulky and out of place. The way it grasps the surgical instrument seems very unnatural. In fact, the only purpose the hand serves in this piece is to connect this man to the scene itself as an extension of this triangular composition. In this sense this figure is important, for his disproportionate body catches the viewers eye at the very edge of the painting, just as his or her attention is about to waive, and shoots it back into the main composition.
Though most works of art have some underlying, deeper meaning attached to them, our first impression of their significance comes through our initial visual interpretation. When we first view a painting or a statue or other piece of art, we notice first the visual details – its size, its medium, its color, and its condition, for example – before we begin to ponder its greater significance. Indeed, these visual clues are just as important as any other interpretation or meaning of a work, for they allow us to understand just what that deeper meaning is. The expression on a statue’s face tells us the emotion and message that the artist is trying to convey. Its color, too, can provide clues: darker or lighter colors can play a role in how we judge a piece of art. The type of lines used in a piece can send different messages. A sculpture, for example, may have been carved with hard, rough lines or it may have been carved with smoother, more flowing lines that portray a kind of gentleness.
When I imagine an artist, I picture a Parisian dabbing at a sprawling masterpiece between drags on a cigarette seated in an extravagantly long holder. He stands amid a motley sea of color, great splashes of vermillion and ultramarine and yellow ochre hiding the tarp on the studio floor. Somehow, not one lonely drop of paint adorns his Italian leather shoes with their pointed toes like baguettes.
Marc Newson is an Australian designer who was born in Sydney in 1963. His work has been on display in many museums across the globe including the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney and MoMA in New York. In 1994 he partnered with a Swiss businessman Oliver Ike and they started a watch company Ikepod that later became some of the world’s most exclusive watches in the world. In 2006 he was given the job of Creative Director at the Australian company Qantas.
The use of materials to complement a design’s emotional reaction has stuck with the modernist movement. His implementation of these materials created a language that spoke poetically as you move through the structure. “Mies van der Rohe’s originality in the use of materials lay not so much in novelty as in the ideal of modernity they expressed through the rigour of their geometry, the precision of the pieces and the clarity of their assembly” (Lomholt). But one material has been one of the most important and most difficult to master: light. Mies was able to sculpt light and use it to his advantage.

It has been said that the painting is in reference of the accident Frida Kahlo had where she got impaled by a metal handrail. The painting is of a bench with people sitting on it just before boarding the bus. This kind of artwork, where the artist puts a little bit of him/her self in it is something I strive for. I want to make art that reflects me, or that means something to me. I don’t want to make something just because, I want it to be where the viewer could possibly see the hard work, the passion, the emotion behind it. Things that most times get
At first entering this show the viewer is over come by the dramatic dark background present in all the works. Rutledge uses a very concentrated light on his still-lives which contain pink flamingo lawn sculptures or fuzzy dice. He paints these subjects in a very classical style showing all the detail and reality of what he is using to tell his story. By using pink flamingos and fuzzy dice Rutledge brings his subjects to the level of absurd sentimentality. These items take a person away to another place like a tropical island or nightlife of Las Vegas. They are also treated as sacred items in the other paintings, with four different paintings of figures in white gloves holding a pink flamingo Beanie Baby. The use of the Beanie Baby flamingo is chosen to contemporize the plastic flamingo to fit into our modern culture today. The figures are also very isolated in dark backgrounds like the Melanesian natives in their Western culture. Rutledge explains further by saying:
The quality of television shows has improved a lot in recent years. Shows like Lost and Game of Thrones have incredible production value while shows like The Sopranos have complex plots with multiple narratives that, even just 35 years ago, were unheard of. These are welcome changes, but I think the most important change to television in the past few decades is an increase in emotional honesty.
