I relate this to the industry of entertainment because entertainers, performers and musicians make people feel a certain way. Entertainers can make millions of dollars and that all comes over time with practice and perfection of their craft. The entertainment industry is for talented people, young or old, who want to share their talent with the world. Put thesis state statement here!!!
The entertainment industry is composed of many career fields both upfront and behind the scenes. Actors, who are most visible, portray and interpret roles, using speech, gestures, and body movements in order to entertain while set designers design sets for theatrical, motion picture, and television productions (“Career Planner”).
Musicians are required to have a wide range of knowledge about all music, but they need to have a strong interest in a particular genre (“Music”). Most singers begin learning their skills at a young age. Some start singing in church choirs when they are just little kids (“Singers”136). If one desires to be in the entertainment industry they should at least have their high school diploma (Encyclopedia 67).
It is important to have a high school diploma because it gives a person a solid foundation which to build on, the ability to handle finances, and to read and understand written contracts. High school offers several classes for those interested in a career in the entertainment industry such as English, Mathematics and Business (Encyclopedia 67). Almost anyone can go into entertainment as long as they are smart, talented and have cool ideas to interest or entertain people. Entertainers make more money as they get out in the field and progress and become popular. The entertainment field is growing more and more people want jobs in the entertainment industry. The big decision for many young adults like Meyrovich is whether or not to pursue a degree. The recent fame and success of Berklee dropouts John Mayer and Gavin DeGraw have many hopeful young performers questioning whether or not college is necessary. Does the entertainment industry care more about credentials or talent?
My dream career is to become a school counselor. Researching the training and education, debt accrued, skills needed, work environment and so on educated me to a very full extent. If musical talent isn’t enough, what makes a musician attain and maintain a successful career? Being successful in the music industry requires the right attitude for success, understanding of “popular” thoughts towards music creation, connecting with the right people, having the right team, re-directing industry disadvantages, artists treating themselves like a business, and last but not least, understanding how to make money in the music industry. Musical artists who embrace these requirements can save themselves the disappointments of being exploited or taken advantage of by others in the industry or from stagnant musical careers. Instead they can embrace that with knowledge in these areas of business comes growth to their musical career.

To satisfy my interest in learning about music and how to play musical instruments, I had to find a source of education other than school; a great depiction in agreement with Graff’s claim that students are being limited by not considering their interests when creating curricula (Graff 197). In conclusion, education is broader than just falling into what the contemporary school system has to offer. Both Gatto and Graff proved this by explaining how conforming students to certain perspectives of education limits their potential in other educational branches that interest the students.

In the music industry, demands may vary as well (“Musicians” para. 5). High demands for performers are in the self employed, religious and performing arts areas of business (“Singer” para. 25). It has been estimated that between the years 2012-2022 there will be a 5% slower rate of jobs for performers (“Musicians” para. 1) This isn’t anything to worry about, although it’s something to be aware of. In the year 2010, around 42.7% of singers were self employed in America (“Singers” para. 25). Job openings nationally overall are up 13% (“Singer” para. 25).
What do you want to be when you grow up? This question is posed in every part of our childhood and adolescent life. This question is asked by teachers, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and our parents alike. Everyone wants to know what you want to be. Is it a ballerina? A police officer? A doctor? A lawyer?
