Vocabulary:This semester,I read the Aesop’s Fables,I learned many new words from those stories. Lots of useful verb and animals’ name,although there still are many words not used in nowadays.
Sentence: There are many long ,beautiful and meaningful sentences,and I have learned how to write long sentences. It important for us to analyze and understand the sentence structure.
Writing: Writing thoughts every week makes me keep the feeling of writing and improve my writing skills by imitating the sentence structure in the stories.
Techniques: professor Chen introduce many methods such as many kinds of electronic dictionary,and studying soft like paper rater which could check-up our passages .What’s more,he taught us how to take advantage
For example the government elected the ministers by choosing the filial people in Han Dynasty. There were many stories about filial piety ,we learned that Li Mi resigned to take care of his grandmother and a man laid on ice to search of carp to make a bowl of soup for his stepmother though she treated him badly.The ancients have set a good example,we should learn from them. In the passage,the lark can’t find place to bury her father, so she buried her father on her head,I was moved by her behavior. When I was young I heard the stories about “crow feedback’’ and “the lamb knelt milk’’.Even the animals know to appreciate and reward their parents.Today people inherit this traditional virtue, a girl carried his mother to continue her collage.she from a small village ,and her father dead when she was young,and his mother suffer from serious disease so she can’t anymore . Her story moved me deeply,she never give up and she is strong.

The Boys in the Boat gave me a little shock. Actually, I have had a little expectation to read an English book before, so I was so excited and worried. However, the book describes very elaborately, with lots of words I haven’t seen before, what the rowers did. I realized that there were lots of words I don’t know. Moreover, it was hard to memorize the descriptive words because those are too many. Nevertheless, by reading the book again and again, it is getting better, and even it is fun now. I like the feeling that I’m learning the vocabulary every day by just reading instead of memorizing. The birthplace of Aesop’s Fables originated in ancient Greece and is widely speculated to have been written by a slave named Aesop. Many critics over time have questioned the true original author of this book, however, they seem to agree that Greece is the actual geographical location of its birth. The specific version of Aesop’s Fables discussed in this essay started with a man named George Fyler Townsend, who began the process of recreating the book by translating it into English and publishing it in 1870. Townsend’s Aesop’s Fables represents a collection of translated stories that highlight morals above anything else, and these morals reflect the values that Townsend considered to be the most important to transmit from Aesop’s original version in Greek to the English-speaking people of his time.
In the Epic of Gilgamesh, the main character, Gilgamesh is first introduced as a glorious king of Uruk who is one-third human and two-thirds god. The idea that Gilgamesh is one third human and two thirds god is impossible because this would imply that Gilgamesh has three biological parents, in which two of them are gods and the other, a human. Indeed this notion is hard to believe but by closely investigating the way that the gods treat Gilgamesh, it becomes clear that this idea was not a mistake. Filial Piety, a term many Americans may not be familiar with, however the Asian culture is not only aware of, but filial piety is ingrained into Chinese culture. Filial Piety is considered to be the virtue of all virtues. This virtue is the endearing way to respect, remain loyal, care for and treat your parents. With one third of the Chinese culture being elderly, this value, filial piety, has an impact on their culture, especially as these elders near the end of life phase. The article written by Cary Stacy Smith and Li-Chung Hung PD explain different philosophies of the Chinese culture including this obligation and how it is deeply rooted with religious traditions. A question many researchers are asking; as the younger generation becomes more Americanized, will this tradition continue?
It is a common theme throughout history that children “owe” it to their parents to do right by them by any means necessary in return for the parents years of hard work, personal sacrifices, and parental obligations to the child; whether that be through personal sacrifices or simply lending a helping hand. Modern philosophy attempts to disregard the ties of family entirely in order to prove that children do not voluntarily ask for sacrifices of their parents, or even the more dramatic claim – “life.” More conservative philosophers such as Christina Hoff Summers defends the moral duties of the more traditional sense of family and the personal morality involved in the family unit. The ideas presented on the tradition that family duties are stronger bonds than those of friends could potentially affect the overall quality of life in adults. In this paper I am going to argue that the traditional sense of family and its duties are stronger than the duties demanded of friendship.
Throughout this fall semester, I have learned many things. Before this class, I have never had to buckle down and plan out my writing so tediously. The many outlines, rough drafts, and final drafts have crafted me into a much better writer than I would have ever expected to become. While I have always considered English as one of my strong subjects, through this class I have learned that English has many more components than I originally thought. One of the most substantial of these components is a transitional sentence and through this class and the writing practice it has brought me, I have learned how to properly write them.
Historically, the Chinese have considered the family as the basic unit of society. Familial principles such as obedience, loyalty, and kinship have been cherished in all states. In premodern China, many philosophers discussed their own beliefs about family. Confucius and other philosophers defined that an exemplary family was the one in which parents cared about their children, and children obeyed their parents. The Analects of Confucius discusses filiality, a traditional obedience to parents and ancestors, as its central theme. When an individual understands the concept of filiality and practices it, he can establish his moral way of behaving. Deference to elders in a family is considered the roots for accomplishing one’s comprehensive ethics. In the Han dynasty, filial piety was a political ideal as well as a familial virtue. Thus, emphasis on this familial virtue increased significantly. Confucius argued that filial piety begins with serving one’s parents and continues with serving the emperor. Writing preserves ideas for future evaluation (Nowacek). An individual’s mind would be cluttered with thoughts – both good and bad – if he or she was unable to put them down on paper, organize them, and return later to evaluate them. Upon a second fresh look, one might discover that the idea he or she had had previously was worthless.
The first value my family taught me at a young age was to act with integrity. This value made me think before I acted and also to be honest with everybody I know. My nana is the one who taught me the value of having integrity which has lead me to understand how to treat others with respect.
Young people’s future and how they are going to act or communicate with other people they are going to meet in life are depend on their parental love. Parental love is really important for kids because it will shape them into who they are in the future. It gives the children the sense of love and how important it is to have someone take care for them. There are kids that do not know who their parents are or they do not get their parental love even though they live together. Some children resent their parents because their parents do not give them enough attention, time and care for them. They decided to spend their time on the street more than at home because they do not get enough attention from their parents. It’s the parental love that shapes kids into who they are, they want to be loved and care for, and who they want to be with.
Our parents work hard to get us where we are today. Due to the fact that my parents had lack of education and there English wasn 't that good they wasn’t able to get a job that was more relaxing. Though they work in company only they were able to earn enough to raise all of us. Through nurture, now that I’m older I don’t exactly see all the struggles that my parent had gone through to raise me, but I do see and understand more about the struggles. Their love for us, nothing can compare to it. Seeing what my parents had gone through and how hard they have work inspired me to work hard, go to school get a good job so in the future they can depend on me and just rest.
They will hold our hands on our first days of new adventures, and wipe our tears when our delicate worlds are rocked. Some will be our friends of the moment, and some will stand by our side, on our sports teams, on our graduations, at our weddings, and during our retirements. While our parents help and support us while growing, our friends will grow with us. These valuable attachments are cherished and needed, and their emotional embrace will always comfort us. With these friends we enter the world of education, our basis to survive in the outside world.
This assignment was quite interesting as I had a chance to sit down and actually talk with my parents about their specific views and attitudes on several topics. The values that I believe in play a very important role in my life. These important values have been greatly influences by my family. Our parents are the ones who first instilled values into us. As I grew up, where we loving our friends and life experiences helped us refine our own values.
