Recommended: Explain the concepts of accountability
Accountability is the power that goes through every section of an organization and every functioning relationship of each colleague of the company. If accountability is not working within your organization then every effort toward performance improvement will be nearly impossible. Depending on the scenario accountability can also be defined as helping others achieve their goals through meaningful and maintainable actions; it can also be defined as responding to or accepting responsibility for your actions and consequences, or allowing your actions to rise above your excuses. Many describe accountability in terms of “the means in which individuals and organizations report to a recognized authority (or authorities) and are held …show more content…
The ability to implement and provide results is tied straight to the accountability of attitudes, practices and systems that are in place in an organization. Discouraging letdowns in the quality of public service delivery is the motivating plan for better control and liability. One idea that’s gaining ground is that citizens can hold policy-makers and providers accountable for their actions (www.odi.org). According to the Human Services Quality, the Framework standards are the main elements of delivering services. These standards include governance and management, services access, responding to the needs of individuals, safety well-being and rights, feedback, complaints and appeals and finally human services (www.gld.gov.au). The goal of Framework is to allow uninterrupted progress of human services through a reorganized client-focused approach alternating from self-assessment to independent review against the standards. According to Ebrahim and Weisband (2007), there are four core components of …show more content…
Performance accountability and performance measurement are important components of how human service organizations manage, fund, flourish and evaluate their programs. Each component has its own responsibility, the performance accountability component is responsible for the theoretical structure and the performance measurement provides the detail portion. Agencies that are funded through the government and operated by nonprofit agencies, united way and other foundations are influenced by performance accountability and measurement. According to The Department of Community Child Safety and Disability Services, Quality Assessments helps to ensure that organizations comply with standards and guide them to their service improvement (www.communities.gld.gov.au). The department also indicates that building blocks help to improve services for customers, find ways to do things better, offers transparency, sustainability and administrative efficiency and defines the roles of service providers and government (www.acquisition.gov). It also promotes improvement
Now for the Army, it becomes an obligation more than“willingness” while you have to be willing to do it as well. Those that are unable to be accountable are the ones that jeopardize the combat readiness of any unit. Basically it is the understanding that from the bottom up. Top down and laterally everyone is going to do and is willing to do the right thing even when no one else is looking. This is practiced at your home base where everyone is assigned tasks and details not only including your own job that you are expected to do and do right but hold others accountable as well as a system of “check yourself, then check your buddy.” Doing the job correctly and ensuring others do it as well and do it safely are all part of accountability in the military as one does not have to experience combat to understand that just being in the military is inherently dangerous given the types of equipment and weapons that are used to train and deploy with. As an example any live weapons range you go to part of the safety brief is “everyone here is a range safety” meaning anyone can call a cease fire if they observe dangerous behavior or a situation regardless of rank and it can be a Colonel or a brand new private, does not matter. As such in that event everyone becomes accountable not only for the operation of the range, the mission objective to have everyone qualify but do it in a safe
• Accountability: We don’t say, “It’s not my fault” or “It’s not my job.” We take responsibility for meeting our commitments – our personal ones as well as those of the entire organization. We take ownership of the
Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines accountability as: “the quality or state of being accountable; especially: an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or to account for one 's actions. Accountability is one the most important aspects in the military and civilian life style. Holding Marines accountable for their actions and having every Marine and piece of gear assigned to you accounted for is required at all times. It ensures the safety and stability of all the Marines.
Accountability is a subject that covers everything from knowing how many diapers are left for the baby, to knowing how many AT-4 Rocket launchers are in the Platoon, who has them, and how experienced they are with using it. If you hold yourself accountable for your actions then your superior will not have to, because you already know the proper course of action to take to correct your issue, and to present any change to them so as to keep the Unit in working condition, and the Corps able to complete its mission.
Accountability defined as the responsibility of an individual in a position of an employee or student. In this section, I am going further to mention some situations and how does this situation demonstrate the responsibility that reflected from the dimensions of my personality, including conditions from communication, diversity awareness, decision-making and problem solving. First am going to point at some of my situation that I experienced as a student and then build it up to the situation that I faced in the work placement program as an employee.
The most simple dictionary definition I have found is: The quality or state of being accountable; an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or to account for one 's actions. Accountability can be applied to many situations in the daily life and it can easily be overlooked in the civilian world, but when it comes to the US Army or any military branch, accountability is one of the most important things. That is why is instilled in every soldier since the moment they are shipped out to Basic Combat Training. The whole Army needs accountability to keep operations running 24/7. From the PVTs, all the way up to high ranking officers, we all need to be accountable for our assigned equipment, location/status, personnel, and our actions. If we are not held accountable of our
The New Public Management argument for agencies is that service providers should concentrate on efficient production of quality services, with the distractions of evaluating alternative policies removed. The discussion of the creation of “executive agencies” in the UK and the similar developments in Australia, Canada and France has been common with references to clear, well-defined targets that allow providers to concentrate on their main business. Similarly, policy-making is seen to be more focused, more rigorous, and sometimes even more adventurous if it can be made without the burden of concern for the existing service providers. Once purchasing has been detached from policy-making, there are opportunities for creating contract-like arrangements to provide performance incentives. A pandemic of public sector management ref... ...
...r pillars of public administration are equally important in the process of public administration and complement one another in the provision of quality public service. When public administrators have economy in mind they focus on the best combination of available resources to provide optimum public service. To ensure that public service is not limited to only a section of the public, the issue of equity is taken into consideration so that public interest is realized. Efficiency and effectiveness additionally go hand in hand in ensuring that allocated resources are used in the best possible manner to attain set goals. Thus whereas the first three public administration pillars – Economy, efficiency and effectiveness are concerned with how public service is provided the fourth and most recent addition (Equity) concerns with for whom public service is provided.
At its most fundamental core, quality improvement of healthcare services and resources requires disciplined attention to the measurement, monitoring, and reporting of system performance (Drake, Harris, Watson, & Pohlner, 2011; Jones, 2010; Kennedy, Caselli, & Berry, 2011). Research points to performance measurement as a significant factor in enabling strategic planning processes and achievement of performance goals (Tapinos, Dyson & Meadows, 2005). Thus, without a system of measurement that accounts for the performance behaviors of healthcare professionals, managers and administrative employees, quality improvement remains a visionary abstraction (de Waal, 2004).
Accountability: Simply defined, accountability is the obligation of power-holders to take responsibility for their actions. It describes the rights and responsibilities that exist between people and the institutions [including governments, civil society and market actors] that have an impact on their lives (Peter and Wheeler, 2006). In this view, accountability has a political purpose to check the abuse of power by the political executive and an operational purpose ensure the effective functioning of governments (Mark Schacter, 2000).To be effective, accountability must have two components: answerability - the obligation to provide an account and the right to get a response; and enforceability - ensuring that action is taken or redress provided when accountability fails (Andreas Schedler, 1999).Accountability is a key element of a human rights-based approach, which emphasizes the relationships between the duties of the state and the corresponding entitlements of the individual. It helps identify who has a responsibility to act to ensure that rights are fulfilled.
Social authorities commission social care based on local criteria and national minimum standards for local population. This service designed to help people who need care and people with caring responsibilities to maintain their wellbeing and protect vulnerable. The definition of responsibility as said by the Business Dictionary is “A duty or obligation to satisfactory perform or complete a task (assigned by someone, or created by one’s promise or circumstances) that one must fulfill, and which has a consequent for failure.” In my eyes someone who is responsible is someone who can be trusted even while unsupervised by managers, professors, a significant other, or friends. People who are responsible are accountable for their own behavior and think before they take action when dealing with certain situations. Furthermore, people who are responsible acknowledge when they are in the wrong and they do not blame it on others. Instead, they take full blame for what issue was at hand.
This research paper is aimed towards understanding the corporate ethics and accountability at the Co-operative. The reason which gives this research a place is due to the ideologies and principles set out within the companies policies, the importance of corporate strategy and the goals and objectives give rise to this topic. When looking into a global company with a single reality its shareholders and staff should all share a similar sentiment to its core values and purpose, although whether acting as part of a tertiary sector or emphasizing fair trade the ethical foundation could be easily compromised from a differed opinion. The aims of this investigation is to compare and contrast the Co-operatives policies with another company of high sustain-ability value and decide from this whether it is extensive enough, also to apply some attention to how precise staff follow ethical policies from other companies to form a more in depth view. The reason for using these methods to gain the information is due to the reliability of forming an external view which can be applied to all companies, also with primary data being absent due to the companies recent losses being of focus it is the best available form of data.
... will enhance accountability to all stakeholders: the funding bodies, the professional associations, and the service users. Furthermore, key performance indicators go further in fulfilling the requirements for accountability to several types of stakeholders. In modern society, the annual reports and key performance indicators which are produced by organization and companies can be used to improve relations between companies and stakeholders since are being accountable of themselves. This is relevant because accountability is becoming more developed and it is slowly replacing older concept of stewardship.
The second topic that can be applied in the workplace is on the Trail. This is my major issue as well. I am always in a rush or I am afraid to say something because it might hurt someone feelings. When you always in a rush or afraid to say something you miss so many opportunities and experiences. You are not getting the most out of life. When you are in rush or afraid to speak up your thoughts become involved with a lot of other things and you are not present, you can make mistakes at work during this time. Also when you are in a rush to help a patient and get them in and out, you can miss out on meeting a really great patient, learning from them, or missing a problem they are having. Also, when you are in a rush they can sense that and will
