In 2009, I was a newly hired government civilian employee. I sought out professional affiliations associated with my new career field, which led me to AGCRA. I first joined the Association and later updated my membership affiliation to the European Chapter when informed a local chapter existed locally. It was then that I posed this question, "Why did no one from my organization know of the local chapter?" As I began to answer this question, I soon learned there were several individuals who knew of the newly formed chapter and I began to form new questions. One, "Why are these individuals keeping this information to themselves?" Two, "Why are most of the individuals who knew of the chapter not members?" As I delved into answering these questions more, more questions came to the …show more content…
surface.
I finally went around speaking with various individuals in my organization to gather their thoughts of the AGCRA. The most frequent comment by these individuals was, "What does AGCRA have to offer me besides the 1775 three times a year for my dues?" I would like to attempt to answer and persuade members of the AG I HR community to join their local chapter. The heart of any affiliation and its chapters is the knowledgeable professionals in which it targets. YOU are the reason AGCRA exists. AGCRA's purpose is to provide an avenue for its AG I HR community to strengthen itself through the sharing of professional knowledge. Every AG I HR professional has valuable professional skills, knowledge, and experience that will benefit the Army's HR community as a whole. Why keep that knowledge isolated? If there is a time in which the AG I HR community would benefit from its members, it is now. After the transformation from PERSCOMs to PSDR, the AG Corps has faced several obstacles to meet its mission requirements. Not only are AG I HR personnel doing more with less, but they are expected to have the knowledge and skills to perform at the highest
levels. You may be thinking, "Why do I need to join the AGCRA to share my professional knowledge with the AG I HR community; I can do the aforementioned through Net." True, Sl Net is valuable tool in which AG Soldiers and HR professionals can seek information and receive daily HR updates. However, Sl Net is only a media platform. Your local AGCRA chapter can bring its members together to engage in professional thought. Have you ever heard the phrase, "Two heads are better than one?" Recently, I was reading an insightful study entitled, "When are two heads better than one and why." In this study, the author found that when members in a group communicate freely, better decisions were made and better information is ascertained. After reading this study it reminded me of the importance of group engagement in the development of better ideas, better resolutions, and to the continuity of any professional field. In other words, it takes members of a professional community to raise its professional field. As corny as this statement sounds, it is true. Ask yourself, "What does an AGCRA membership mean to you?" To me, my membership means opportunities to expand my network, to increase my exposure to many other people, and to increase my skills and qualifications in my field and as a leader. AGCRA is not just about awards and recognition, it's about people, too, which is why it is important to get involved with your local chapter. Join your local chapter or volunteer your time at a local chapter event and increase your opportunities for leadership, collaboration, and networking. Engage face to face with members for Army HR educational and networking events. Seek leadership positions within your chapter and reap the personal and professional rewards that come when you get involved. In closing, the AGCRA is a benefit enhanced by its AG I HR community through membership. You reap what you sow; so get involved, stay involved, and make the most of your membership.
I walked into high school determined to become a teacher. I came out with a better understanding of myself and a new job in mind. When I crossed the thresh hold of Gibbs High School, I knew it was the time to find myself. I chose new classes that I knew nothing about including JROTC. I chose JROTC specifically because the rope bridges looked exciting and adventurous. When I finally got to try the rope bridge on for size, it wasn’t tied properly and fell while I was on it. This typically would scare someone away from the program, but it made me more determined. I was eager to learn and to grow from each experience I ran into in JROTC. Because of my dedication and willingness to learn, I rose through the ranks. I started my journey through the Chain of Command by becoming Public Affairs Officer. Once my
Admittance into the University of Georgia’s Honors Program would push me to continually test my potential in the pursuit of my Pre-Medical studies. I take pride in challenging myself to completely master a field of study that enhance my capabilities, and therefore, prepare myself to strive for my next goal in life. In order to grow into a better and improved self, one would need to test unfamiliar waters and reach new heights. The Honors Program ensures this growth by bringing in unaccustomed, rigorous, and beneficial material one cannot simply find in a traditional setting with their head in a textbook. Students are more able to grasp information through exploration and peer discussion which the Honors Program would provide. I believe that
I have always set big goals, and had even bigger dreams. However, these dreams aren’t like those of some of my classmates such as becoming a movie star or a famous soccer player, but ones of curing cancer and providing the world with answers to scientific phenomena. Should the Gatton Academy provide me the chance to take the next step toward fulfilling these dreams, very little would prevent me from attending.
For years now it’s been my dream to attend Melbourne High School. My two cousins have attended the school in the past five years and I’ve heard how enriching being part of the MHS community can be. They have both become excellent role models for me and now I wish to experience being part of the school’s tradition for myself.
There are many different types of incentives interest groups provide to their members. Some members join due to the solidary incentives, people want to feel like they belong, they want companionship and to be around people who feel the same way they do on specific topics. Material Incentives is another reason many people join interest groups. Some of these groups I had no idea were involved in politics at all like the AARP. This group provide discounts to their members. My father is a member of the AARP group and gets many discounts while traveling for work. Almost every hotel chain offers a AARP discount. AARP stands for American Association of Retired Persons; they work to help form laws in the interest of retired and elderly people. AAA is also a household name that many do not know is an interest group. I personally have AAA and thought that is was only a business that helps you if your car breaks down. Through reading my textbook I have come to find out this interest group helps with laws that directly affect drivers in our society. AAA also provides its members with a variety of discounts when obtaining a membership. I was able to get a discount

First, I would like to thank you for considering me for this position. I think that I would be a great fit for the CIA, and the federal government. There are many reasons why I am interested in a position with the CIA. The first reason for this is that I have always had an extreme sense of pride for my country, from the minute I began thinking about what I wanted to do with my life as a child the first things that always came to my head were positions with the federal government, in organizations like the CIA, and I see this as a wonderful opportunity to achieve a lifelong goal. The second reason is that because I feel that my skill set, and where my knowledge is fits perfectly into a role inside the CIA. I am an Information Sciences student, but my interests are much more
I am still a member of FFA, as we are allowed to be members in college if we are involved in agriculture to pursue our American Degree, an award given for at least five years of agriculture and FFA involvement for five years before age 21.
I decided to research the National Hispanic Leadership Agenda and the National Council of La Raza because I was interested in learning about interest groups that could possibly influence me and people of my race or ethnicity. I am not part of an interest group but this research has influenced me to want to participate in one.
When I first came to McIntosh High School and stepped on the gym floor for my very first official workout with Coach Dowse, I was a young and overweight fourteen year old girl who loved to play basketball. If someone were to tell me that in just three short years I would become one of the very few African American captains in the history of our girls varsity basketball program, chances are I would have laughed at the assertion. Yet, here I am.
When notified by a few peers that they had seen my name on a nomination list for the National Honor Society, I was surprised and genuinely flattered. After researching more about what it was, it was an honor to be recognized for all I do every day in order to be successful in life. Every year I make sure I take every opportunity to get the best education I can, like all honors or AP classes. My freshman year, I took AP Biology and have to admit I was initially intimidated, but I knew if I applied myself and kept on going through the course it would benefit me in the long run and I ended with a B and was ecstatic when I discovered that I passed the AP test. Passing one AP course gave me the ambition to go ahead and take more, so next year I plan on taking three AP classes; Psychology, Environmental Science and U.S. History. Along with these, I am very set on dual enrolling. I’m willing to work as hard as I can in order to ensure my success.
I went to a house party with my friends, we were attacked by a gang from another neighborhood. We were dying for revenge. We each went to our homes to get our weapons, but as I was getting my gun, my father stopped me from going outside. My friend whom led the shootout was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Now, he and four other friends are in prison. I could have been in prison or dead that night if it was not for my father who calmed my nerves, and talked me into handing the weapon over to him. While there is no substitute for a good father, by transferring to Stanford, I hope to provide some solutions to issues such as these by becoming a mentor to youth, inspiring my community, and eventually earning a PhD and JD, so that I can be a legal advocate for those in my community and support families through
When becoming a member of the NEA there are five different types of memberships. One is called the Active Professional/
The main reason I attended induction was to hear more about what NSCS is about. I knew National Society’s participate in service events, but I was not entirely sure about the other aspects of the society. I did not want to join a society and not fully understand what I will be priding myself in and what I would be representing. I am glad I went and got to learn about the leadership that NSCS brings and the networking opportunities that would be made available to me.
