Admittance into the University of Georgia’s Honors Program would push me to continually test my potential in the pursuit of my Pre-Medical studies. I take pride in challenging myself to completely master a field of study that enhance my capabilities, and therefore, prepare myself to strive for my next goal in life. In order to grow into a better and improved self, one would need to test unfamiliar waters and reach new heights. The Honors Program ensures this growth by bringing in unaccustomed, rigorous, and beneficial material one cannot simply find in a traditional setting with their head in a textbook. I genuinely believe that peer interaction is a vital component in the development of academics as well as character in which I have the skill set and experience to do so. Growing up in a diverse and culturally rich community exposed me to various personalities and constructed me to undergo everything with an open mind. My unique background will expand the boundaries of the Honors Program with the incorporation of my personal experiences. With my strong work ethic and my willingness to explore a vast scope of courses, I can be an integral influencer in peer-to-peer learning environments. My preparation for every course beforehand assures my ability to participate and contribute during each class. I am always on top of my workload which proves that I would be an active student in classroom discussions and have thorough development in my research opportunities. I will be the thermostat in this program by setting the emotional and personal climate and setting examples for other students with a vision that we will all strive for the extra mile inside and out of the classroom. My passion to learn and the dedication I hold to my studies exemplify the type of student needed in this program. I hold the ambition that is needed to be successful in the Honors Program at the University of Georgia.
Research My first research experience took place from the Fall 2012 – Summer 2013 in a neurobiology laboratory (Dr. Daniel Plas) focused on Parkinson’s Disease. In this project an undergrad student and I were tasked with optimizing a cellular medium for neural growth of the model organism Lymnaea stagnalis. This was comprised of following established protocols and altering certain variables within the formulas (differing concentrations of ions, pH, et al.) to observe growth pattern differences in vitro.
I am excited to be submitting my application to Georgetown University School of Medicine, as this school’s mission and values reflect my own beliefs on the role of a physician. I believe that there is no fixed template to healthcare; medicine and health will vary across time, regions, and individuals, and as future physicians, it is crucial for us to recognize that. I was attracted to the Norlin Scholars community over any other opportunity at CU because I fit the Norlin Scholars program academically, socially, personally, and in terms of what I want for my future. None of the other programs I researched came as close as Norlin Scholars to matching my ideal vision for my time at CU.
Next year, as I embark my first year at university, I hope to fully integrate myself into the community by getting involved in the Students' Union, joining the cheer team, volunteering where I can and making many new friends along the way. At university, I hope to maintain a high grade point average, granted that my education is extremely important to me and that I am extremely ambitious about achieving my goals.Therefore, I will commit lots of my time to my studies in hopes of being a successful student. Nevertheless, I am still looking forward to being a part of the community by devoting my extra time to helping those around me. In classes, I intend on being an active learner, a respectful student, and a helpful classmate; someone who is always willing to lend a hand to others. I would be an excellent choice to be a member of the National Junior Honor Society because I show service, leadership, character, and citizenship. I endeavor to obtain excellence in my academics; I wish to exemplify scholarship by constantly asking the whys and hows of things. I will not let a bad grade define who I am as a student or who I will become. I also want to take the most challenging classes available, not because it will look good on my college application, but because I genuinely love the concept of learning and discovering new things. After graduation, I took a hiatus from education to re-evaluate my goals and interests. Although I thoroughly evaluated my competence and desire to attend medical school, I thought it necessary to take another year to do so; given the importance of such a decision. Being that I'd come from a rural area middle school with limited options for class outside of required knowledge, honors classes were a token to me and I learned quickly that they weren’t easy whatsoever. I heard the word “honors” and instantly jumped
Don't get me wrong; my parents never mandated that I take all the honors classes I could gain admission to. No one told me to take three honors classes. No one, that is, except the little voice in my head that convinced me scholarly success was based upon the number of "H's" on my high-school transcript. The counselors cautioned me not to do it, students who had fallen into the trap before warned me against it and my parents just left it up to me. Through it all, I just smiled and reassured them, "Don't worry; I can handle it." The trouble was, I didn't have the slightest idea what lay ahead.

The students base their expectations of college on those stories; however, sometimes the information they receive is conflicting. From teachers to peers to the colleges themselves, each has different advice about the strenuous nature of college academics.

IgA deficiency is a flaw in the maturation of B cells where B cells have a deficiency in the ability to be able to yield IgA. Mutations linked to this defect are mutations in calcium modulator, transmembrane activator, and cyclophilin ligand interactor gene. Thus, expanding the knowledge basis of the functions and production process of IgA is essential in attempting to study IgA deficiency.
