The Art of writing helps us to express ourselves. However, writing is different from art in that it has to follow specific expectations like grammar and structure. During the beginning of the term, I had a good idea in what writing was, and how I have to do it. When i was working on my first assignment, I had to find out what i have to do for it to be a success, and I had to leave behind my earlier perceptions of writing and begin from scratch. Throughout this portfolio, I demonstrate my development and growth as a

My portfolio is a collection of work that shows my efforts, achievements, and progress. The key elements for the portfolio include the evidence that choose the contents of my own portfolio, specific criteria for selecting and evaluating student work, and clear evidence that the student has reflected on their work. When it is time to write my work, before handing it in for a grade, it is very helpful to have some information options on what to check my essay with. For example, in my informative analysis essay, i wrote about drug trafficking and directly jumped into the discussion with facts about the issue. Having people say that it made it simple to know what the problems were, and it was easy to point out the good parts of my
The first media text I chose to create for my portfolio is a blog post because there is no specific instruction to follow as I’m am able to write in my own personal opinion. Writing a blog post allows me to be more creative with my ideas to add in my response. Also I’ve wrote tons of blog post over the course of this semester, so I’ve learned what to have in my post making
Writing is a type of art because it requires you to think and be creative in the way you want it to be. I have a diary that I wrote almost everyday. They help me think about my day and sometimes turn my bad day into a good day. I write whatever comes into my head at that moment, and reflect on my day. Writing make me think deeper to what happen and help me turn my negative thought to positive. Writing is a very powerful tool. When I write, I have the power to change the story. I am the author of my own story so I can be as creative as I want.
The following final drafts, drafts, notes, and peer review letters represent my growth as a writer in the span of one semester. I learned quite a bit about myself and the things i can do to improve my writing and the methods of doing proper research in order to write a proper research essay. Though i have seen an improvement within these essays, i feel i still have much to practice upon.
As the semester finally approaches the finish line, I revisit my past work to compare and contrast how this class has developed me into a successful writer at the college level. Throughout the year my writing style has developed and become broader as I have learned how to incorporate more of my personal views as well as reliable, unbiased information. This portfolio is a representation of how many things I have learned along the way while being an English 102 student.
I have practiced time after time to try and reach my peak in writing skills, I may not be there yet, but I know that I have to practice to help me when I write. I may find problems that I have in my writing now and in know that usually not all writing is perfect the first time. I hope that with the practice that I have had I have built one of the strongest papers that I have built in this quarter in my English 101 class. I hope to use the skill that I have learned in this class in the future to build some of the best writing that I can create. Thank you for having the time to review my portfolio and I hope that you may see the work and effort that I have put into my
This portfolio reflects my time in College English. Included in my portfolio is a sample of my journal entries and reflections about them. Also included is a reflection of the class as a whole. This course granted college credit to the students who passed. The work consisted of papers, essays, and discussion questions. The five required papers includes a memoir, profile, extended definition, analysis, and argument. Before each paper was assigned, the class would read a few sample essays to get an understanding of how each type of paper should be written. Following the sample essays, the class would answer discussion questions. Then, before the paper was assigned, a shorter essay would be assigned for students to practice before writing the
Throughout this portfolio, I demonstrate my abilities to critique my own writing and to make an argument based on evidence and analysis. My revised papers are the evidence, and the analysis I make is how these papers show my growth, improvement, and now capable writing abilities to meet the outcomes of English 131. In the very creation of this portfolio, in addition to the revised essays, I accomplish multiple global objectives for this class. These objectives include writing a complex claim, writing with intertextuality, showing awareness of my audience, and revealing the effect of successful, critical revision and editing techniques. As I aimed to meet these outcomes throughout the quarter, my writing slowly, but surely developed into critical, organized, and academically correct text.
In this portfolio reflection essay I will be addressing the five essays I have written for my English 101 class. Along with addressing the five essays I have wrote I also will be stating my strengths and weaknesses of those essays. The five essays this portfolio will include is a diagnostic essay, revised narrative essay, profile essay, evaluation essay, and arguing a position essay. Those five essays I have written over the course of this semester have been very helpful towards my writing skills. Punctuating, staying on topic, my introductions, and conclusions are areas I struggle with when writing papers, but by writing those five papers during this semester has helped me improve on those areas.
Over the years of my schooling, I have gradually developed my writing preparation to help me become a better writer. I continue to find ways to improve my writing abilities by working on my weaknesses and by incorporating the feedback I receive from my peers and my instructors into my essays. At times, I still struggle when preparing to start my essay, but with precise and organized planning and obtaining the help of others, I am certain that I will become more proficient in my writing
In one semester of English 101 I have learned so many things about writing. I used to believe that writing was just putting words on paper, but have since learned that writing is much more than that, I now understand that writing is a way of exploring my mind and of making connections with other writers and readers. Over the course of the semester I have been learning to write in a way that uses the skills of reflection, critical thinking, and much more. I have used these skills to compose two academic essays that I am submitting in a portfolio to determine my final grade in English 101. In order to have a passing final grade my essays need to display skills I have learned in the course that are required by the Portfolio Assessment Rubric or
My portfolio will demonstrate the skills and writing techniques I have developed and honed while taking the course English 1010 at the University of Memphis. Some of the techniques and skills I have learned include how to write with different persuasive strategies on the audience and how to incorporate critical thinking into my work. As well as these skills I have learned how to apply an effective composing process to my writing and have fine tuned my writing abilities. Writing with different styles on different topics has improved the way I approach writing papers. These styles helped me learn quickly, therefore making me a better writer and student at the same time.
In this portfolio, I will exhibit my understanding of the four course outcomes and showcase how I was able to demonstrate each one effectively in my writing throughout the quarter. The purpose of these outcomes is to develop skills that are essential for becoming a successful academic writer,
Over the course of the semester, I feel that I have grown as a writer in many ways. When I came into the class, there were skills I had that I already excelled at. During my time in class, I have come to improve on those skills even more. Before I took this class, I didn’t even realise what I was good at. This is the first class where I felt I received feedback on my writing that helped me to actually review my work to see what areas I lacked in and where I succeeded.
Like all great thing, technology is not perfect. I could see where a traditional portfolio would be the better choice but it isn't the most efficient. One big advantage is the accessibility of the portfolio.
“Assessment is the process of identifying, gathering and interpreting information about students’ learning. The central purpose of assessment is to provide information on student achievement and progress and set the direction for ongoing teaching and learning” (NSW Department of Education and Training, 2007, p.1). I believe an assessment strategy which best encapsulates this understanding of assessment is the portfolio. Specifically, a process portfolio provides a wealth of information about a student’s progress in literacy and not only allows a teacher to assess the learning that has taken place but also helps them to identify the areas in need of improvement. Additionally, the crucial element of the student’s self-assessment and self-reflection in the process of creating the portfolio also allows both the teacher and the student to understand the progress, strengths and weaknesses of their writing.
