For a team to work effectively and efficiently, all team members must agree upon a common goal or idea that they are willing to work towards. Once all members share their ideas and can come to an agreement as a team, then work should be spilt up equally amongst team members. Depending on each team member’s strengths, it can help determine how to split up roles and work load. When roles are given to each member it breaks up the work load and doesn’t leave one individual in the team doing all the work. When breaking up the roles I think it is important to assign a leader of the team to keep everyone on track. To have a well-function team, there must also be clear and affective communication. Having all team members agree upon the same goal or idea can be challenging especially when each team member has their own way of looking or thinking about things. Team members often want to speak up and state their opinion but can be intimidated that the team will disagree so they stay quite instead. Individuals all of their own way of solving problems, doing research and meeting goals so when trying to meet team goals it can be challenging to have all members on the same page. Another issue among team members can be members being unprofessional or disrespectful to other team members, this can also result in poor communication skills. When taking people of different backgrounds, personalities, moral and ethical beliefs, and putting them together in a group, conflict will arise. The key to achieving your team goals is to construct and conquer your goals while keeping the greater good of the team in mind. Conflict, as it arises, should be combated and abated through swift and thorough resolution techniques.
A group can only be called a team if the members are actively working together toward a common goal. A team must have the capability to set goals, make decisions, solve problems, and share responsibilities. For a team to be successful, trust must be earned between its members by being consistent and reliable (Temme & Katzel, 2005). When more than one person is working on a particular task, inconsistent views or opinions commonly arise. People come from different backgrounds and live through different life experiences therefore, even when working towards a common goal, they will not always see eye to eye. Major conflict that is not dealt with can devastate a team or organization (Make Conflict Work, 2008). In some situations, conflict can be more constructive than destructive. Recognizing the difference between conflict that is constructive to the team and conflict that is destructive to the team is important. Trying to prevent the conflict is not always the best way to manage conflict when working within a team setting. Understanding conflict, what causes it, and how to resolve conflict effectively, should consume full concentration.
For people to feel free to express what’s on their mind they must have an open communication with their colleagues, be honest with each other, and respectful. Of course a team does not agree on certain topics and that’s okay. A disagreement makes room for people to explore their own minds and pushes them to think outside of the norm. Disagreements always need to be handle with a high level of professionalism or it can easily turn into negative energy for the team. People will need to know they have other’s attention and that their input is being taken serious and possibly into consideration as a new solution.
As a team, our second team leadership role is that of a Summarizer. We're all good recorders/communicators seeing as how everyone takes notes on team progress, team decisions, and any assignments that need to be completed in the future. We created an agenda for the team and at the end of the group meeting the recorder of our group would then distribute copies of the responsibilities we equally share across the team to each team member.

Members should know exactly what they are trying to accomplish. This also includes having standards for measuring results and ways of obtaining performance feedback. A good team will make members realize the importance of collective efforts. Third, a high-performance team has the right mix of skills. These involve technical, interpersonal, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. No one needs to know how to do it all, but each member should be able to contribute to the group....
Effective communication encompasses many concepts. For a leader to be effective, one must be able to build relationships between different parties. In order to build a good rapport, one must be able to recognize the strengths and weaknesses of those involved, and within oneself.
