Advertising is one tool used by most businesses to sell themselves to the world, for example McDonald’s. However, these advertisements have lies within the truth, which are very difficult to detect. These lies are in the values presented, presentation of the situations and beliefs that form the backbone of the message. McDonald’s is a restaurant that deals with fast foods, located in various countries. This company uses television, social media, websites and newspaper ads for advertising their products. Their advertisements are well written, to give nice impressions, often false because crucial information is not told. They portray certain values that well suits their target markets. They may also be discolored or even burnt out or improperly cooked. Another ad that seems really contradictory is the ad on McNuggets which they claim are free from preservatives. This is a laughable issue because on matters of health, anything that is deep fried is not good and elimination of preservatives is not enough to bring change in the general health concerns. In addition to this, the nuggets are still high in fat and sodium content and the dipping source still contains preservatives (“The issues”). This may not be true because it is not possible to know the nutritive value of a meal by just looking at it. Furthermore, the company has received many criticisms concerning the quality of their food. The journalist Eric schlosser in his book “Fast food nation” accuses the restaurant of making unhealthy food which has been a great contribution to obesity in America. He also criticizes their target to children, and impacting loyalty of children to the brand from an early age (“Fast food nation”). Making people believe that their meals are of good quality through images that have just been created on a computer is a big mistake because it plays with the emotions of people.
