In this section of CHHS titled “Health and Wellness,” four presentations were given to the class that discussed different jobs in Health and Human services that focused on wellness for their clients. These presentations included: “Health Promotion and Nutrition,” “Social Marketing and Health Communication,” “Longevity in the Blue Zones,” and “Healthcare and Social Services for the Aging Population.” While there were not as many lectures in this segment compared to the last segment, I personally enjoyed this segment as a whole better because I learned new concepts while last segment I really only learned new professions. One of the new concepts I encountered was caloric density and empty calories in Chelsea Smart’s presentation. Although many …show more content…
In Persuit’s presentation the terms “narrative fidelity”, the truth of a statement, and “narrative coherence”, the consistency or logic of a statement, were explained and the presenter depicted how these terms were directly related to social media and story telling. The concept of “Blue Zones” and the phenomenon of how these places hold residence who mysteriously live longer, healthier lives then the rest of the world was also something I had never heard of before. The last presentation on gerontology also opened my eyes with the surprising statistics on how much of the population is over 65+ and how this growth in life expectancy will change the future work force.
These four presentations addressed the aspects of social, physical, environmental, and emotional health according to the holistic model of health. In the presentations on “Social Marketing and Health Communications,” and “Longevity in the Blue

Interpersonal communication was discussed in “Healthcare and Social Services for the Aging Population” when the speaker addressed how it takes a variety of specialists such as nutritionists, physical therapists, nurses, and more to establish a healthy lifestyle for this older generation. It would have been interesting to see the types of professionals that partnered with nutrition or social networking, but that information was not submitted to the class. There was also a small amount of diversity discussion in the lectures “Healthcare and Social Services for the Aging Population,” and “Social Marketing and Health Communication.” The healthcare presentation disproved the myth that people of the African-American race live shorter lives than Caucasians after 65, while social marketing suggested that different social networking sites are targeted for different ages, sexes, and personality

Reflecting back on the all the information learned this semester, I am amazed at how much I learned. Working in healthcare makes you aware of a lot of the topics that were covered, however, when you apply it to yourself, in a personal relationship, it becomes much more powerful what the impact of each topic is.
Everyone should have a personal wellness plan or something close to it. A personal wellness plan can help you through not only the physical things in life but also the emotional, social, and spiritual things as well. Personal wellness not only includes exercise for the body but also exercise for the brain.
If the health of employees can help or hinder a company, then why do companies still have sick days? With the “on the go” lifestyles, how can we not question the health of employees and their families. Today we have high stress jobs, rush hour traffic, and demanding schedules. Being healthy and fit is the way to conquer tomorrow.
Picture this, you have been sitting in front of your computer screen for multiple hours and still have yet to write a complete sentence. This is the struggle I encountered every time I attempted to write an Essay in WRC 1013. Before entering this course, I was unaware of the challenges that awaited me. I was somewhat familiar with the use of research and source integration, but I soon learned my knowledge of these two was not up to par for college-level writing. Throughout high school, I would just put off my essays until the day that they were due and then try to come up with something last minute. That is not the case for college though. I’ve come to realize how important it is to outline, draft and revise my essay to the best of my abilities
In many cases, the coach’s goal is to help a client overcome challenges, make changes, and achieve goals related to health and well-being. Coaches commit to a life helping others and dedicate numerous personal resources to this service. Similar to clients, coaches may become preoccupied with work and environmental demands and lose focus of their own well-being. Although living positive lifestyles is important for all humans, coaches must model this lifestyle for their clients (Moore & Tschannen-Moran, 2010). Thus, self-care is an integral part to a healthy lifestyle and coaching career.
The female mean of 7.59 was slightly higher than the male mean of 7.07, with females also having less variability in scores. On a scale of 3 to 15 that has a neutral influence score of 9, these means fall just above a level of slight influence. To determine if the mean difference was statistically significant, an independent t-test was conducted between the two genders. The p-value of the Levene’s Test was .876, indicating that it is ideal to assume equal variances. The t-test p-value was .322. Because it is less than .05, the null hypothesis fails to be rejected; therefore, the influence of professional athletes on the political views of University of Michigan undergraduates does not differ between males and females.
Western culture stresses ultimate dedication in the workplace, often at the expense of an employee’s mental well-being. Individuals will work holidays, arrive early and leave late, and attend all outside work functions in hopes of finding themselves in opportunities for advancement more often than others. After centuries of being slaves to the desks and nine-to-five workday, the new millennial culture has begun to reconsider the life sentence of work before personal lives. In this paper, I investigate what exactly has led to holistic health, alternative medicines, and preventative care take a place in society as a profitable part of our culture in the following: by detailing the increase of healthcare costs; the impact of the recent definition
The terms leisure, health, and wellness all have a similar correlation to one another and with that correlation they also play a large role in our lives, from when we grow up all the way to the present. I can look all the way back to when I was a kid and reflect on leisure activities I chose and participated in. When I was a boy I had many activities, I enjoyed doing that would entertain me when I was bored and since I was a kid with little to no obligations I was bored often. In order for me to fill my wide-open schedule I found things that I was interested and pursued them. The biggest activities I did for fun where competitive swimming and playing the guitar. I enjoyed competitive swim because not only was it fun to participate in some friendly
Wellness is defined as “an active life-long process of becoming aware of and making choices to achieve optimal health and a more successful and balanced existence” (Ren et al., 2007). Wellness incorporates the spiritual, emotional and social wellbeing of an individual. When it came to thinking, planning and developing my SMART goal I decided to focus on my physical health as this was an area that I needed to improve the most and would also contribute positively to my spiritual, emotional, social, intellectual and environmental wellbeing aswell. In this reflective essay I will discuss and reflect on this journey. This reflection will include why I decided to focus on this specific SMART goal aswell as how I found the SMART goal journey. I will then discuss my own view on my attitudes for health and wellness and will discuss what a SMART goal is and the importance of them in order to start working towards those goals and to positively change behaviours and habits. This reflection will also include challenges that may be experienced in relation to behaviour change. These may include time management and motivation.
To me physical wellness is definitely one aspect, of the five dimensions, I know I need to work on improving. Recently I has blood work done, it’s showed I had low vitamin b-12, vitamin d, and potassium. This really opened my eyes and made me realize I need to work on taking better care of my physical wellness. I plan on eating a larger variety of foods; as well as, keeping track and planning what I eat. Along with these changes to my diet I plan on taking a multi-vitamin, along with the vitamin d the campus doctor prescribed me.
I have learned a lot about my health and wellness thorough out this semester it is truly amazing. The impact these seven different dimensions have on our health they are, physical, intellectual, psychological, spiritual, social, environmental, and occupational all play a role in our health. All in so many different ways working together to make a brighter and happier healthier us. These seven dimensions make up whom we are and how we live our life is all based upon how we balance these dimensions.
Health is considered a complete wellness of a body including physical, mental and social well-being and Holistic Health is considered a wellness of a whole body including mind, body and spirit. According to American Holistic Medicine Association “Holistic medicine is the art and science of healing that addresses the whole person – body, mind and spirit” (Wollumbin, page 3). Holistic Health is an alternate way to treat, prevent, and wellness of an illness and achieves the best possible level of health. It focuses on the whole body rather than just symptoms or diseases. It is an approach to heal the physical, psychological, environmental, spiritual, nutritional health of one’s being. For each individual, the definition of holistic health is different and in simple words it is an alternate way of treatment where physical, mental, emotional and spiritual works equally together to attain a health. In western medicine, standard treatment is given with drugs or surgery according to symptoms or diseases or injuries where a doctor or a physician determines the ways of treatment and the patient has to follow the recommendations. Whereas, holistic health is a complete opposite way to treat the illness where patients cooperate in their illnesses, take the responsibility of their treatments, make their own decision for own level of well-being and thoroughly participate in their health care plan.
