Personal Health and Wellness In many cases, the coach’s goal is to help a client overcome challenges, make changes, and achieve goals related to health and well-being. Coaches commit to a life helping others and dedicate numerous personal resources to this service. Similar to clients, coaches may become preoccupied with work and environmental demands and lose focus of their own well-being. Although living positive lifestyles is important for all humans, coaches must model this lifestyle for their clients (Moore & Tschannen-Moran, 2010). Thus, self-care is an integral part to a healthy lifestyle and coaching career.

Spirituality may include group membership such as a church participation which may aid in developing a strong social support network. I believe the main reason for this is my assumptions. I think that I am treated fairly within my communities and this belief leads me to believe the same is true for everyone around me. However, this may not be true. According to the readings, equity consists of diversity, social justice, individual empowerment, fairness, and equal opportunity (Center for Spirituality and Healing, 2014). I believe the Air Force, as a community, does an exceptional job promoting equity; however, barriers may exist to some members who are finding it difficult to take advantage of numerous opportunities. For example, a bias still exists towards many members seeking assistance for mental health. A stigma is associated with seeking assistance; therefore, many people who could benefit from help choose not to get help. Potentially, this limits the opportunities for some and doesn’t promote equity within our community. Although I am one person, I believe I can make a difference by promoting mental health and advocating on behalf of members seeking help. By doing so, I may be able to improve the community for others and enhance the well-being of myself and
Beato stresses out the idea that “American psychiatric Association (APA) should add internet addiction to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM)” by bringing up its consequences, he is extremely right. In its first conception, internet addiction disorder may appear as a negligible issue in our society since some of its effects are the promotion of the stupidity and the increase of the unconsciousness. An example of how ignorant and insensate we have become, Greg writes an anecdote about “the 18-year-old who choose homelessness over gamelessness” (para. 7). However, when in paragraph 8 he presents the tragic brief history of the young man who killed his mother and injured his father because they wanted to take his Xbox one, this leads us to question ourselves on how the internet can seriously affect our behavior like drugs. In addition, internet addiction has a negative impact on our mind. In other words, it may conduct to a depression. In his article Beato backs up this evidence with an example of students who qualify themselves “jittery”, “anxious”, “miserable”, and “crazy” (para.3) when they were deprived of their connections to the Internet. Finally, many young people have prefer their virtual life at the expense of their social life. They do not know what it means to communicate with other methods like a letter or a face to face communication. Greg support this idea by using a statistic graph. According to that graph, “more than 1

It took me a while to realize this was true and learn what self-care is for me. Personally, an important aspect of self-care is getting enough sleep at night, because I have difficulty functioning on little sleep. Exercise is also a great way for me to release stress, tension, and improve my mood. I plan to continue to make time to exercise most days a week as a professional. As a social worker, I know that having a support system is vital for our clients, and it is also invaluable for me as well. I have a few people in my life that I can vent to when I’ve experienced a stressful day and talking out my difficulties is very
Wellness is an essential aspect of counseling. It can be difficult to effectively help a client when one’s physical, mental, and spiritual well-being is depleting. When one neglects their own health and well-being they are capable of “burn out”. “Burn out” means that a person has exhausted their wellness and this can likely cause complications in the work place and personal life. It is a counselor’s responsibility to give their clients their highest endeavor, therefore, proper wellness maintenance is imperative. Sweeney and Witmer developed the first model of wellness based on counseling, called the Wheel of Wellness (Myers & Sweeney, 2007).
The specific aim for this grant proposal is the design a study, over a six-month period, to examine the effectiveness of healthier psychological functioning and awareness of one’s self. Self-awareness is a big concern as individual’s
Spiritual wellness greatly concerns our connection to God. It involves our attitudes, actions, behaviors, and values. It exists to give purpose and meaning to our lives. It provides the core for all other aspects of wellness. From a Judeo-Christian perspective, spiritual health involves being restored in our relationship with Christ Jesus. This means believing in Him as Savior and accepting His salvation. To take it a step further and be spiritually well, a person needs to live for God every day. One should be continuously submitting themselves to God’s will and living a life like Christ. Spiritual wellness is absolutely essential to our overall health. When a person is spiritually well they can easily define their basic purpose and express the values that they hold dear. The ability to do this contributes to our satisfaction with life. This then leads to our ability to demonstrate spiritual wellness effectively. To exhibit spiritual wellness a person must learn to forgive. When we can give forgiveness to others it provides peace for ...
Mirowsky and Ross explain how health “increases effective agency” and also helps build “habits, skills, resources, and abilities” that helps a person improve their lives (Mirowksy and Ross, 2010: pg. 33).
In order to lead a healthy lifestyle, it is essential that individuals constantly monitor their health. This involves not only physical, but also mental and emotional aspects of the body’s functioning, as they relate to the home, school, work, and leisure environments. If necessary changes are made sooner rather than later, then a stable, balanced and healthy lifestyle will be more consistently maintained. In fact, the World Health Organization says being healthy is feeling that there are few physical or emotional impediments to doing things in your life that you would like. For example, there are many people who are suffering from chronic illnesses who are healthy because they are able to maintain their creativity and vivacity when others cannot. It is evident that self-awareness enc...
Self-care is a necessary practice in everyone’s life. This practice allows people to relax and replenished themselves. The first time I heard of this term was in during one of my social work classes. As we began to discuss self-care it became clear, that without proper self-care people, not just social workers are doing themselves a disservice. Self-care encompasses more than general rest. Self-care deals with emotional wellbeing, good health and spiritual wellbeing. All of these areas are key to having good self-care. The reading provides a good description self-care, it stated that self-care is achieving an equilibrium across our personal school and work lives. Achieving equilibrium in my personal life will only increase my ability to support and help others.
