Personal Health and Wellness In many cases, the coach’s goal is to help a client overcome challenges, make changes, and achieve goals related to health and well-being. Coaches commit to a life helping others and dedicate numerous personal resources to this service. Similar to clients, coaches may become preoccupied with work and environmental demands and lose focus of their own well-being. Although living positive lifestyles is important for all humans, coaches must model this lifestyle for their clients (Moore & Tschannen-Moran, 2010). Thus, self-care is an integral part to a healthy lifestyle and coaching career.

Spirituality may include group membership such as a church participation which may aid in developing a strong social support network. Spirituality may also bolster psychological resilience and help individuals recover and bounce back following traumatic and stressful situations (Brassai, Piko, & Steger, 2011). Spiritual individuals may more readily recognize opportunities in difficult situations and view hardship as a shared human experience limiting negative after-effects (Center for Spirituality and Healing, 2014). Additionally, numerous modern religions preach forgiveness and the importance of releasing negative feelings. Most importantly, spirituality may lead decrease mortality rates and increase the length and quality of life (Holt-Lunstad, Smith, & Layton 2010). I believe the main reason for this is my assumptions. I think that I am treated fairly within my communities and this belief leads me to believe the same is true for everyone around me. However, this may not be true. According to the readings, equity consists of diversity, social justice, individual empowerment, fairness, and equal opportunity (Center for Spirituality and Healing, 2014). I believe the Air Force, as a community, does an exceptional job promoting equity; however, barriers may exist to some members who are finding it difficult to take advantage of numerous opportunities. For example, a bias still exists towards many members seeking assistance for mental health. A stigma is associated with seeking assistance; therefore, many people who could benefit from help choose not to get help. Potentially, this limits the opportunities for some and doesn’t promote equity within our community. Although I am one person, I believe I can make a difference by promoting mental health and advocating on behalf of members seeking help. By doing so, I may be able to improve the community for others and enhance the well-being of myself and
