In this paper I am going to look into gender inequality. Gender inequality is not fair towards women. So in this paper I will be summarizing a three articles that have to do with the inequalities females face in today’s world. Gender roles are still creating an image where a woman can’t go and provide for her family. If all men and women were created equally then why are females still considered the weaker sex? I hope to show you of the gender inequality that still occurs in the world we live in today.

Now people are becoming more and more aware of the inequalities that separate men and women in the work place. My girlfriend is going to school for nursing, and she has already been told that if she and a man are applying for the same position, the man has a better chance of getting the position right off the bat just because of the fact he is a man and she is a woman, and that is not fair. Just like how I am an elementary education major. I have been told that when I apply for a job that I automatically have a better chance of being hired than a woman just because of the fact that I am a man. That is by no means fair. If someone is better than me and more qualified than myself, they should be hired, and if I am more qualified and better for the job, I should be hired. Sex and gender inequality is one of the many issues handled in this book. This has always been a social problem in America and other nations. Sex and gender are different terms, where sex refers to the biological difference between men and women while gender refers to the differences between females and males that the society constructs between the two. These inequalities therefore, are society-created where men and women are treated differently not because of what they can do but who they are. The author dedication to portrayal of America as a society that disregarded their rights is therefore, in an attempt to create a society with gender equity and equality where a woman and man will be treated equally in work stations and other public places. The physical characteristics of women and their position as child bearers gave the men a convenience to use, exploit people who were their sex mates, companions and guardians of their children.
In the workplace environment it is a known fact that women are passed over for higher positions that would allow them to earn higher wages. Author of “Workplace Gender Discrimination and the Implicit Association Test" Jo- Ann Kadola stated, “Women earn 18 % less per hour than men working the same job, with the same title, with the same credentials even when a woman has a higher education.” (Kadola23) This is known as the gender gap, it happens in all occupations whether in management, directors or any high level position. Overall men and women never earn the same pay for the same job. This is known to be a worldwide fact. On every job women are always asked to prove or provide credentials for a job that men are able to obtain without proof. Kadola also stated, “Women have to show skills more often, they are required to take or be more responsible than men.” (Kadola24) Men are generally respected more. Their opinions hold more value. Men tend to have more freedom in making decisions. When it comes to merit raises they will receive a higher percentage based on the fact that they are men. When women enter the workplace it is a perceived notion that she will get married and start a family. Therefore a working mother is looked down upon based on the fact she is no staying home caring

Social systems tend to reinforce oppression because they are usually static and do not change much over time. Social systems such as family and media are highly problematic for women because they contribute to the gender roles, expectations, and norms. Institutions further gender inequity as it subdues women and nurtures men. Feminism aims to improve the social situation for women, including abolishing institutionalized oppression and inequity and reforming institutions.
Women have historically been submissive to men and with this, it may also be recalled that the perception of one also plays a major role in how that individual is treated by society. The inequalities present between men and women will be further discussed in this essay in respects to the gender discrimination which exist in the workforce.
The institutionalized discrimination of women in the work place is nothing new or unheard of. The brunt of it has happened fairly recently as women began to enter the labor market in force less than a century ago. The affect of this discrimination has had long lasting, generation spanning affects, but as time has passed and feminism spread, the gender-gap has slowly begun to shrink.
The first reason for gender inequality is income disparities. The reason for income disparities is because men are getting more median wage than women. Women are often paid less for the same thing as men only because they are women. So the realization had once been deliberately chosen less high paying careers than men. Some of these jobs would be secretarial, clerical to explain why men in a particular company would make more money than a women in the same company. That may have been true once, but no longer that way in today’s economy. Now that more women are holding mid-level management jobs the career choices by men are ambitions to women’s pay disparities.
Sexism is a major factor in the workforce.Today male and female have a hard time breaking into the opposite gender dominated fields. This has happened because of the media, it has showed us that male have certain “right” jobs, as well as female. Female still dominate traditional female professions like cosmetology jobs are 92.9 percent women working them(Wolfe). If a man were to get into cosmetology they would most likely be judged for having that job, because we stereotype that they can't have a feminine job. Women have a harder time getting into high level positions. “Women make up only 21 of the S&P’s 500 CEOs,” (Berman). This has happened because the media has set in place stereotypes that it is wrong for women to have high level positions. It is getting better, in 2013 women chief financial officers increased 35 percent at large U.S. companies from 2012 (Frier and Hymowitz). The job market for men and women is still unfair but it is starting to get equal.
In this paper I have shown how women differ from men. They differ in everything from sports and education to their home life, women are unequal. Steps need to be taken provide equality for the whole nation. Maybe not to long after our century mark, everyone in this country, male and female, will have the same opportunities and chances for advancement in every aspect.
This endeavor is necessary to protect women’s rights in the labor force in matters such as sexual harassment, salary, work opportunities, etc. Currently, there are several trade unions in Malaysia namely Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) and Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (CUEPACS). However, specific trade unions that fight for women and their equal rights does not exist. At the most, women are only a small part of the committee in general trade unions due to a low number of female workers in the labor force. Therefore, the formation of FTAs can reap benefits in terms of gender inequality and female labor participation which eventually leads to an increase in income per capita and economy
It is only recently that sociology has begun to explore the topic of gender. Before this, inequalities within society were based primarily on factors such as social class and status. This paper will discuss gender itself: what makes us who we are and how we are represented. It will also explore discrimination towards women throughout history, focusing mainly on women and the right to vote, inequalities between males and females in the work place and how gender is represented in the media.
I understand that the lack of women taking a role as a leader in a company does not apply as a good example speaking that it is gender inequality but based on the ability of the person of taking the job. But on the other hand, there is no reason that could explain why women are getting less pay than men when they both are working for the same job.Which also mean that there is no rejection stating that there is gender inequality when it comes together speaking of the wage gap between men and women. Restating the argument that was made earlier, women earn 77 percent of what men earn for the same job. In this case, it explains that gender inequality is still occurring around us. Where women have no right to drive a car or ride a bicycle on public roads. Also in Chile and Lesotho, women lack the right to own land. An example of this is, even in developed countries such as the UK, a gender pay gap of 15% exists with women on average earning £5,000 less a year than their male colleagues. There can be no acceptable justification for this as your gender should not determine how much you get paid for a job. Women are being paid less for working efficiently for the same hours simply because they are women. Gender inequality all began because of the patriarchal society back in past centuries. Some people, mostly males, are still having issues and concerns that our society is not so much male dominated anymore. Today females have a lot more freedom and opportunities in the employment fields especially in occupations that people have always stereotyped men to have.
