The Situation: Public Relations is an ever-evolving field, fast-paced and rarely boring. I would prefer to work in an organization’s department, versus at an outside agency. My ideal career would be in the nonprofit sector. I find public relations within the nonprofit sector interesting because it is more about the mission versus making turning a profit. In my opinion, each day is more worthwhile when working for a cause. I am primarily interested in content creation and copyrighting. I want the opportunity to write every day and add value to an organization by providing people with the information they need to be successful. I have not done any work in the field outside of school work. However, I plan to intern in the fall. I do have knowledge of online platforms such as Canva, Hootsuite and Hubspot, but I have no current certifications. My experience with these platforms is an asset that I can leverage.

Target Audience:
The audience that I need to reach is Human Resource Managers in DFW. Ideally, I would like to intern and be hired on at the same organization, but that is in a utopian situation. Organizations in need of a public relations specialist is the audience I need to reach, especially considering my desire to work with an in-house firm over an agency environment.

Strategies: The main problem that arose during my digital audit was the lack of an online presence. Firstly, I need to ensure that I have a cohesive brand. It serves as the main online platform which will showcase my attributes to future employers. Blogging is a great way to build credibility through content and social connections. Being consistently active can increase my appearance in search results. It also will serve as a writing sample, in addition to my online portfolio. Expertise navigating social media is important in the field. I need to focus on being active on, or eliminating, unused accounts. Using social media to enhance online reputation is a powerful marketing strategy, one of which I am not taking full advantage of. Adding a link to my website on my social media accounts would help. My LinkedIn is incredibly under-utilized, and engaging myself with like-minded professionals on that platform is an incredible networking tool that I am not using. My profile is also thin, which could easily be beefed up with work samples and additional resources. These same tips can be effective on my Twitter and Facebook, as well as monitoring who I follow to make sure it is in line with my professional ideals.
