A Career in Public Relations The field of communications ranges from being in the spotlight to working behind the scenes so to speak. For instance, most technicians, newspaper editors, and directors work to make sure everything is functioning properly and looks neat when they present their work for everyone to see and enjoy. On the contrary, people who have careers more open and can even be considered public figures, such as news anchors, TV hosts, and radio personalities, are in the spotlight. I wanted to be able to choose a field of study that could offer me both. For example, with a bachelor’s degree in public relations in marketing and managing the salary ranges from $40,193 to $98,336. “The median annual Public Relations Manager salary is $101,003, as of March 24, 2016, with a range usually of $87,742 to $116,176, however this can vary widely depending on a variety of factors” (Salary.com) PR jobs require the director to be open to new things that will acquire not only adults, but teenagers and children as well. For example, Campaign US and PR Week are coming together to celebrate the marketing industry 's achievements in cinematic storytelling. “The Brand Film Festival will showcase the year 's most artistic, creative and effective branded content films, from Vines to YouTube videos to long-form documentaries” (PR Week Magazine). In order to be successful in whatever field of PR it is crucial to keep up with the current events and trends of today. Social media is becoming a new way for people in public relations to reach out and grab the attention of a younger audience. Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, and Instagram are the most popular media apps that can be used to get a message across. “Many stories are actually more powerful when told through the right social channel. For example, Microsoft used a video to share a story about how their technology is making a difference in people’s lives” (Social Media Examiner Magazine).
