Commercial Diving and Underwater Welding The career I chose is commercial diving and underwater welding. I chose this career because commercial diving and underwater welding is a very exciting and lucrative career for veterans, ex-military, and adventure-seeking individual who desires more than just your average nine-to-five job. As a commercial diver and underwater welder, you will be expected to perform under the most challenging of circumstances, requiring the diver to be highly trained, certified, and be in peak physical and mental condition. Most commercial divers are employed by leading diving contractors. Commercial diving and underwater welding lobs vary, however on a typical day, you might find yourself reporting for duty at the …show more content…
After the job has been fulfilled, you will then began making your ascent forward the surface. If necessary, you may complete in-water decompression and open surfacing, enter into a decompression chamber to ensure you don’t display the symptoms of decompression sickness. This results from bubble formation within the tissues. Commercial divers and underwater welders make a decent amount of money. The salary for a commercial diver and underwater welder is often determined by 4 distinct factors; divers experience, employer, location, and depth of dive. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, commercial divers and underwater welders have a mean (average) hourly wage of $26.32, while the mean annual wage is approximately $54,750. Additionally, the top percentile (90%) can make approximately $93,910 or …show more content…
The GMAW process is suitable for fusing mild steel, stainless-steel as well as aluminium. GTAW or Tungsten Inert Gas TIG welding is comparable to oxy acetylene gas welding and needs a lot more expertise from the operator. Employed for carrying out high-quality work when a superior standard of finish is needed without making use of excessive clean up by sanding or grinding. Arc Welding or SMAW Generally known as stick or arc welding. Arc welding is the most basic of all welding types, is easy to master in a home welding situation. Stick welding can be used for manufacturing, construction and repairs, very much well suited for heavy metal size 4 millimetres upwards. Thinner sheet metals and alloys are usually more suited to the mig welding types. Gas or Oxy Acetylene Welding And Cutting Not used as widely for general welding of mild steel. Consists of mixing oxygen and acetylene gas to create a flame capable of melting steels. Mostly used today for maintenance work and gas metal cutting. Also common for brazing softer metals such as copper and bronze. Can also be used for welding delicate aluminium parts such as refrigeration
scientific experiments (Go welding: history of welding 1). Conventional welding is most easily explained as arc welding processes. Some arc welding processes are TIG welding, Stick Welding(SMAW), and MIG welding. TIG stands for Tungsten Inert Gas welding this means that using tungsten as a electrode and an inert gas, which is usually argon, the weld is produced by creating an arc between the piece being welded and the tungsten electrode. SMAW or stick welding utilizes a stick electrode held in a clamp surrounded by a powdered substance to weld. Mig welding uses a machine that holds a wire feeder within it, the wire feeder feeds the wire electrode through a tube to a gun that slowly sends out the wire as well as a steady flow of inert gas. These and other processes classified as conventional welding processes are the best processes for welding jobs because they are more cost effective, more...
To begin, there are factors that affect salary. For starters, salary.com tells, that the range of salary for a welder is from $32,166 - $42,478. Your years if experience can help determine your salary. Usually the more experienced workers get paid more. Your education can affect your salary as well.
Oxy- fuel welding is usually called in workplace/trades terms oxy acetylene welding, gas welding and oxy fuel cutting which are all use fuel and oxygen to cut and weld metals together. It all started with the famous chemist Edmund Davy, who is suppose to be considered as the first man to make acetylene. By accident in 1836 Edmund while trying to make potassium created a black compound which was mixed with water create a gas that burned greatly. Edmund wanted to use this gas to make lights but the materials and production would cost to much. Calcium carbide was not identified until 1862. In 1892 calcium carbide was created by accident when trying to create calcium from coal tar when the production reacted with water.
Pipeline welders get paid between 50,000 to 185,000 a year. Pipeline welders get paid so much money is because they’re gone from home for long periods of time. Another reason is because they are going to work in different countries. Welding might be a good paying job but it is a dangerous also.
According to Pickwelder, “This type of welding is used in welding wide varieties of metals and alloys such as magnesium, steel, stainless steel, nickel, copper, aluminum, bronze and many other nonferrous metals” (James). MIG can be used with a number of different metals making it very diverse. This is a good quality as it can bond to any metal with the right settings and welding wire. According to JobsiteUS, “A range of material thicknesses can be welded from thin gauge sheet metal right up to heavier structural plates” (Peter Apalais). MIG welding can weld through all different metals and their thicknesses. This is good for production because this process can do both while some processes can only weld thin or thick metal. According to Coastal Media Brand, “Capable for a variety of applications, including – trailer hitches, auto body repair and restoration, farm/ranch equipment, household projects, repairing wheel barrows, bicycles, etc” (Coastalmedia843) The multivariate MIG has so many possibilities that can be used for nearly anything that involves repair work or production. It is good for commercial use and even for your home. This shows the extent that MIG welding can go up to, and the list goes on. All in all Gas Metal Arc Welding is the best process that can be used for an expansive amount of uses for anything consumer grade and
Welders can use hand held welders or even robotic welders to produce welds. Both equally requiring a incredible amount of knowledge. They can also fill holes, produce structures and build custom parts for automotive race shops. Welders often work fulltime on shipyards, oil rigs, and pipelines or anywhere else where a specific job is needed. Welders are often required to interpret blueprints or sketches and weld accordingly to fulfill job duties. Arc welding is the most common type of welding today and is what most welders use. (bls) There are over 100 different welding processes that a welder can learn how to use however, Stick, Tig and Mig are the 3 most common used in the industry. These are used most to maintain equipment

Even though welding has been around for a long time, most of the best inventors were around during the 19th century and have changed the way thing are done today. During the 20th century, many technological advancements developed and have made welding easier because of the different types of welding that have been developed. Welding impacted the world during World War l, because during the war armaments that were going to be utilized were ordered in tremendous amounts. Therefore, welding has been around since the Iron Age and has let people build strong steel and powerful armament such as Weapons, tanks, and planes. Finally, welding has had many advancements, and will continue to do so in the future, because the world needs
One main category of welding is arc welding. Arc welding uses a current sent from an electrode, through the base metal, and back into the ground clamp on your welder. This arc creates a tiny spot of immense heat that melts the metal around it, thus creating a weld puddle, or the puddle of molten metal. Within arc welding there are MIG, TIG, and stick welding.
GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) is more economic; Springer reports that “ GMAW is an economic process because it has higher speeds and higher deposition rates than manual arc welding. There is also no need to constantly change electrodes” (Page 11). GMAW has a higher speed, which means that you can get the job done faster. It also has high deposition rates which makes the weld look clean and smooth.” This method can be used for a high range of work, but it is not suited for repair work because of it’s weld quality” (Page 4).
Marine Biology is what I would like to study. I want to become a marine biologist because I want to discover new species. I want to go to the 70% of the ocean that has not been discovered. Marine biologists also get to go travel to different places. They not only get to seethings underwater which not many people get to see, but they also get to see places on land which not many people get to see. Marine biologists are also interesting to me because they get to swim for most of their work day. I love the water and swimming. Marine biology is a very interesting and intriguing career to me.
Allows divers to dive deeper and stay submerged longer. Scuba comes a long way from other forms of diving by using an air-tank and regulator. This is what allows them to stay under longer and dive deeper. Scuba originally began with military and commercial applications, where it is still used today. But now, by far the largest group of divers is “Recreational Divers”. These dives are practiced at depths of less than 130 feet, from these depths, divers can make a straight ascent to the surface. Diving beyond this limit requires advanced training. (Lawrence, 4)
Welding is an art, science, and high paying career all in one. Welding is the most effective way to join two pieces of metal, it is the only way to join them so they act as one. Numerous things in our daily lives has been welded from coffeepots to skyscrapers. Welding can be done almost anywhere outdoors, indoors, underwater, and even space (“Welding Basics”). It is practically
Welding is a very important tool used in our daily lives. Welding is the process of joining two metal pieces together by applying heat. A filler helps to make the joint. Everything we use from trucks to houses have some type of welding in them. There are many types of welding careers to choose from. There is a great demand for welders today. My project was to build a table and candelabra out of metal. Most of the metal I gathered came from junk yards and had to be cleaned of rust.
Moreover, it also require participants to have a great body, because they need to stay underwater for a long time. (The top five scuba diving destinations in the United States are Key Largo, Florida; Maui, Hawaii; Big Island, Hawaii; Florida Spring; Kauai, Hawaii.)
