Tomorrows Welders Thomas Jefferson said, “I find that the harder I work, the less I call it work”. I have often found myself in situations where I needed to fix something but could not because it is metal. I believe this might be why I began to show interest in welding. There is great satisfaction in being able to create or fix a metal object on your own. As a Certified Welder, I will be able to combine my hardworking drive with my personal interest in metal working to be a successful welder. This paper will explore the job description, requirements, and salary expectation for a Certified Welder. First, the job description for a Certified Welder includes many components. To begin with, The Occupational Handbook shares, that welders often …show more content…
The reason for this is so that they know what they are supposed to be doing for that certain job. Welders are also to maintain their equipment and machinery. Meaning, have their machines all set to the right settings required for the job they are working on at the time. Inspecting structures or materials to be welded is another part of a welder’s job. They have to do this to be sure that there is nothing in the structure or material that could possibly cause any problems (The Occupational Handbook). Next, there are working hours to consider. The OCO tells that most welders work full-time. Many manufacturing firms have 2 or 3, 8 to 12 hour shifts each day to continue production around the clock if needed. As a result, welders may work evenings and weekends (The OCO). In addition, the working environment includes different variables. Career Education Advisor states that welding is relatively dangerous work, done in some potentially hazardous environments. Welders work with electrical currents, large machinery, and heavy parts in conditions that include factories and construction sites. Management-level welders spend time on work sites as well as in the office (Career Education Advisor). Finally, every occupation has advantages …show more content…
To begin, there are factors that affect salary. For starters, salary.com tells, that the range of salary for a welder is from $32,166 - $42,478. Your years if experience can help determine your salary. Usually the more experienced workers get paid more. Your education can affect your salary as well. Usually, the more training you receive, the more you get paid. The shift you choose to work could affect your salary as well. For example, if you decide to work overnight, you might get paid more because no one else really wants to work that shift. Your working conditions are another factor that could affect your salary. A lot of times, welders that work in dangerous conditions get paid more. Lastly, the location can also affect your pay. Some places make more money than others, so you could be making more or less (Salary.com). I think that welders make pretty good money. I feel a welder’s salary would be good for me. I now know the factors that affect the salary of a welder. To sum up, salary is important to consider before choosing a
Welding is a dangerous job because you can hurt your eyes from the flash if you don’t wear eye protection. Yes pipeline welding dangerous, but it is wrong because it is only dangerous when proper safety precautions aren’t taking place. Welding is dangerous because pieces of metal can fall on you and you can get flash burn. And you can be exposed to gases, fires, explosions, and electric shock. But the only way these things happen is when safety measures are ignored.
There are jobs everywhere for welding, however how much you would like to make depends on where you are willing to work at. In my home town of Streator one of the main welding manufacturing shops is vactor which majority of our residents work in. Entry level wage for welders is typically $17/hr or higher. Welding can be very hard on the body when safety precautions are not taken. All welders should wear safety equipment such as: safety goggles, welding mask with proper shade, gloves, flame retardant jacket, pants, boots, and a welding cap. The purpose is to ensure the safety of the welder and those around him. Safety precautions are not only taken by the welders but also the supervisors and managers. It is their job to manage the exhaust in shops by law, many welding shops have ventilation systems installed just like the one in our welding shop. There are ways around not having a ventilation system; for example vactor workers carry specialized venting systems built into their welding masks. Many of the health problems older welders face down the road could 've been prevented if they would have took the proper safety precautions when they were younger. The most common welding process used in welding manufacturing is mig, the reason being it is fast and efficient. Mig also leaves far less spatter so it makes for cleaner welds (Petkovsek). Welding manufacturing is also safer because workers are not
Welders can use hand held welders or even robotic welders to produce welds. Both equally requiring a incredible amount of knowledge. They can also fill holes, produce structures and build custom parts for automotive race shops. Welders often work fulltime on shipyards, oil rigs, and pipelines or anywhere else where a specific job is needed. Welders are often required to interpret blueprints or sketches and weld accordingly to fulfill job duties. Arc welding is the most common type of welding today and is what most welders use. (bls) There are over 100 different welding processes that a welder can learn how to use however, Stick, Tig and Mig are the 3 most common used in the industry. These are used most to maintain equipment

Even though welding has been around for a long time, most of the best inventors were around during the 19th century and have changed the way thing are done today. During the 20th century, many technological advancements developed and have made welding easier because of the different types of welding that have been developed. Welding impacted the world during World War l, because during the war armaments that were going to be utilized were ordered in tremendous amounts. Therefore, welding has been around since the Iron Age and has let people build strong steel and powerful armament such as Weapons, tanks, and planes. Finally, welding has had many advancements, and will continue to do so in the future, because the world needs
and I started to take it out. They test broken down machinery using computerized diagnostic programing, these particular programs designed to run various tests and find the problem in the machine. It is very important that as an industrial machinery mechanic keeps records of what they repaired, how long it took to repair the machinery, and how much the repair cost. They know how to carry on a conversation about business and talk with others to ask for help when they need it. An industrial machinery mechanic needs to know how to communicate; this is a major part of this particular job.
Skills of welding students welding program learn the art of heating and shaping metal, required classes may include advanced mathematics. To become a certified welder you are required for two year educational high school or college. Travel opportunities for welders you prefer the open or even the open ocean to a cramped office, life style of the ‘’road warrior’ ’welder could lead to an exciting career once you’ve completed a welding program, these travel bound welders are used to going across the country in order to work on huge projects. The advantage of becoming a welder you have plenty of travel opportunities your afford to work on land/or ocean.
There is some basic equipment that is needed while welding. First and foremost, a welding mask is needed to protect the eyes from the extremely bright light created by the arc. UV light can also come from arcs, so eye protection is needed for this as well. Another necessary piece of safety equipment is gloves. A thick protective specially designed welding glove is used for the hand that is holding the torch, and a thinner glove is optional for the hand that isn’t on the torch as well. Heavy cotton clothing, especially long sleeves and jeans, is necessary as well. The long sleeves and pants will protect the skin from the extremely hot spatter than can fly off everywhere when welding. Leather is preferred if doing a lot of welding at one time.
The wide range in salary comes from the level of experience that one has. Typically in this field, one finds those with their doctorates degree make more than those with
Commercial divers and underwater welders make a decent amount of money. Welding is an art, science, and high paying career all in one. Welding is the most effective way to join two pieces of metal, it is the only way to join them so they act as one. Numerous things in our daily lives has been welded from coffeepots to skyscrapers. Welding can be done almost anywhere outdoors, indoors, underwater, and even space (“Welding Basics”). It is practically

Welding is a very important tool used in our daily lives. Welding is the process of joining two metal pieces together by applying heat. A filler helps to make the joint. Everything we use from trucks to houses have some type of welding in them. There are many types of welding careers to choose from. There is a great demand for welders today. My project was to build a table and candelabra out of metal. Most of the metal I gathered came from junk yards and had to be cleaned of rust.
