Arnett may not be inaccurate as he explains the differences in young adults today as previous generations based on the timing roles take place, nonetheless suggesting it as a novel universal stage causes concern globally. As mentioned in Cote’s 2014, Dangerous Myth of Emerged Adulthood, Arnett’s theory cannot be correct for all 18-29 year olds, nor did Arnett explore other countries across different demographics or non-college students, (L. Drew, Emerging Adulthood lecture, August 26th, 2015). Young adults appear to bounce around the workforce, however it could be because young adults are accepting employment they are not favorable of to aid them through college where at that point they can inevitably find the career they intend on keeping, opposed to Arnett’s reasoning for this to be “identity explorations,” (Cote, 2014, pp. 184). Arnett’s theory may be plausible for a selection of people in industrialized societies where their behavior can be seen as prolonging their “adulthood”. For example, young adults not feeling like an adult and who search for self-exploration, on the other hand perhaps he should consider a innovative term other than a developmental stage in life universally, (Arnett, 2000, pp. 479).
All actions entail an inner, psychological cause. This idea can be applied in literary analysis, one novel being Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. Throughout Brave New World, the World State emerges as ideal and flawless with scientific and technological advancements. One way to examine such world is with the psychoanalytical lens–an approach in literature focusing on character psychology–to divulge significant meanings in conscious and unconscious behaviors. Utilizing the psychoanalytic lens, one can perceive the flaws of the World State through various people.
But is emerging adulthood a period that every young person experiences through their life, in every culture and exactly the same ages or are there any restrictions for young people to experience this emerging phase. Marriage was the significance that a person entered adulthood, it usually happened between the ages of 16-18 for females and 18-20 for males. This small window before marriage only allows for a period of adolescences but no emerging adulthood. So this means that emerging adulthood is not a universal phase but one that only is experienced by those people that delay taking any adult like responsibilities until past their teens. Because some countries are extremely industrialized the requirement of people to have a higher education is reinforced, many emerging adults remain in school until their early or mid twenties to obtain a gainful position.

Following adolescence comes adulthood which is made up of young adulthood and middle adulthood. ‘Adulthood is the period during which most of life’s accomplishments typically occur, including pursuing careers and raising families’ (Macionis & Gerber, 2002). Middle adulthood is the generatively vs. stagnation stages in which an adult must care of others and realize that they need a family or a legacy. During this stage, people will nurture their own family or find ways to nurture others that need to be nurtured outside their immediate family. If an adult does not overcome the crisis during this stage, then they will not grow which will result in them being selfish and
Adulthood has often been associated with independence. It serves as a turning point in life where one has to take responsibility for oneself and no longer being dependent on his or her family. Early adulthood, usually begins from late teens or early twenties and will last until the thirties (Santrock, 2013). Early adulthood revolves around changes and exploration while middle and late adulthood are more of stability. The transition from adolescence and adulthood differs among every individual. The onset of the transition is determined by many factors such as culture, family background, and the personality of the individual. Emerging adulthood (as cited in Santrock, 2014) is the term to describe the transition period from adolescence to adulthood.

While reflecting on Emerging/Young Adulthood I can say that I am at the beginning of this stage. My current age of 19 and I am in the transition process of taking on the responsibilities and the stability of an adult. As the textbook describes I am one of the older adolescents that is seeking for an education which means that I am currently postponing the traditional adult responsibilities. I am seeking for an education because I want to have a well-payed job and because I want to be able to provide my parents and two younger siblings with a better life. Through my experience in college so far, I am able to say that I have gained a lot of knowledge and I hope this continues. According to the textbook the more years of higher education a person pursues the deeper and more
What marked adulthood for me was turning 16 because that's when my parents had me get a job
Childhood and adulthood are two different periods of one’s lifetime but equally important. Childhood is the time in everybody’s life when they are growing up to be an adult. This is when they are being considered babies because of their youthfulness and innocence. Adulthood is the period of time where everybody is considered “grown up,” usually they begin to grow up around the ages of eighteen or twenty-one years old but they do remain to develop during this time. However, in some different backgrounds, not everybody is not fully adults until they become independent with freedom, responsible for their own actions, and able to participate as an adult within society. Although childhood and adulthood are both beneficial to our lives, both periods share some attributes such as independence, responsibility, and innocence that play distinctive roles in our development.
Adulthood is a time where we are all grown up, but still emerging as a person. Adulthood includes independence, parenthood, financial stability, marriage and many more. Everyone experiences adulthood differently. Each generations adulthood is different, depending politically and social currents of the time. Becoming an adult there are many responsibilities, independence, and financial stability. We must worry about searching or keeping a job, and making sure we pay our bills on time. As we grow we change, become taller, voice changes, or grow gray hairs. We become less energized as an adult, getting tired easily.
Teens may not have to worry about the adult things in life, but adults don 't have to worry about the teen things either. They have the resources to deal with any consequence of adult behavior. Just like teens, an adult who drinks and drives, runs the risk of an accident or death. However the adult, is expected to have auto insurance and the financial ability to pay for fines and fees levied against them for drinking and driving. Unlike teens, adults who engage in sexual activity, are expected to be able to bear the financial responsibility of raising a child. Adults too might find themselves in less than favorable situations, however, they usually have the social skills to exit the
In “What Is It About 20-Somethings?” by Robin Marantz Henig she opens up discussion on the theories of why twenties’ year old are not reaching milestones in the way that earlier generations have. This brings up the idea of emerging adulthood, and the argument of incorporating emerging adulthood into life phases. While in the article it does seem like emerging adulthood is only for the privileged, including emerging adulthood has more potentials benefits such as giving people the opportunity to learn about themselves and for their brains to fully develop, while the only risk is seeing if the theory applies to all the youth.
