Having a balanced nutrition is a necessity to live a life full of an efficient diet. Watching your diet leads to good health and a lack of disease. This was demonstrated through the experiment of tracking your everyday diet. This was recorded through the use of the SuperTracker program that analyzed the nutrients/minerals and the food groups of the foods I consumed from a 5-day food log. Observing my diet changed my perspective on what I eat, how much I eat, and how the foods I eat effect my body.
The project involves keeping a 5-day food log which includes at least 2 weekend days. This involves recording all foods and beverages consumed in this period of time to add for every meal and snack. This information is used for the SuperTracker program to determine the nutrient content from the foods that were consumed throughout this period. Another strength of mine is trying to portion what I eat by not eating large amounts of food and stuffing myself. My weaknesses tend to be not getting enough micronutrients in my diet. This is something I need to continue to work on. Regardless of my health I still want to try and incorporate more nutrients into my diet to be even healthier. With the strengths I may have, I always believe I could be healthier and more fit and want to strive each day to be better. The changes that were easy for me to make was to incorporate more fruits and vegetables into my diet. When I eat a meal such as pasta, I try and add as many vegetables I can into my pasta I wouldn’t normally get such as zucchini and spinach. It was hard to cut out processed foods, but I did this as well the best I could. It makes it hard for me to have a good nutrition at times due to I am so busy with working and school I eat what is most accessible. I believe that everyone has their own strength and weaknesses, but not everyone is able to figure out their strengths and weaknesses correctly. Proper nutrition is important in maintaining a long and healthy life. Most Americans are rushed due to their busy work schedules, and do not take the time to plan their diets properly. Like me, most Americans are unaware of the importance of eating a healthy diet and consume too many foods without the proper nutrients. Throughout my life I have been fortunate. I have not had any major health problems, and have been able to consume most foods without having to worry about gaining weight. These last two years, however, I started to gain weight and have become concerned with my diet. Changing my poor eating habits has been difficult for me, however, having this assignment has taught me that it is not as difficult as I previously imagined.
There are many aspects of identity in the poem “Sex without Love,” by Sharon Olds. I can relate my own thoughts to how the author views the subject that she talks about in this poem. There has been a situation in my own life where I was thinking to myself, just as the author was, “How do they do it, the ones who make love without love?” (Olds 740). Having been raised as a well-rounded and disciplined person, as well as religious, I know the discouragement of having premarital sex. It’s not just the immorality that these characters are experiencing that the author is talking about, but they probably have personal issues that have to do with a their self worth and identity. These characters think they know what love is, but the truth is that they are in denial of what they are really doing.
My five strengths according to the strength finder include; balance, this helps me be aware of treating all people equally regardless of the situation. I am neither in anyone 's favor or against anyone as this to me is selfishness and individualism. This would result in a situation where some people scale heights due to connections while others are lagging behind. I believe that a consistent environment where the rules apply to everyone is the best for individuals to function best (Rath, 2007). Flexibility is my next strength. By knowing that things do not always work out as planned has helped me change the tactics of how I perform my tasks. For years, I have been eating what I want. Food choices are a significant factor that affects our health. What we like or crave, often, is the determining variable in what we eat. Finding the right balance of food choices is the key factor in improving our health benefits. Choosing nutrient-dense foods will provide more nutritional value than foods that are found to be low in nutrient density. Making the right choices in foods, however, is extremely difficult. Often, I find myself enthralled in the latest fad, not considering the subtext of the foods I am eating, such as nutrients, vitamins, healthy fats and unhealthy fats, cholesterol and minerals. My top strength is Individualization. To me, this strength means the ability to figure people out and understand the true uniqueness of others. With this strength, I am able to make things run smoothly and, at the same time, able to involve everyone in a group. The next strength I have is strategic, which enables me to find alternative ways to deal with problems. Therefore, I am also able to make things run smoothly and according to plan. In addition to these two strengths, my third strength is competitive which measures how successful I am compared against others. This is great because it helps me to endure and work hard in order to make it to the top. My fourth strength is restorative which is a talent that helps me to deal with any problems that may arise and ensure that things continue going according to plan. This strength means that I can endure and overcome any adversity that comes my way. My last strength is achiever. This is a strength that helps me to work hard and always be productive. Being an achiever maintains my ability to always keep going and to constantly feel the need to be productive.
The food tracker benefited me in so many ways. I total three days out and all calculated 4800 calories. The food tracker allowed me only 2000 calories a day and wanted me to target at least 150 min/week in physical activity. The recommendations for my calories were very direct and limited to only a certain amount that I could manage. It help me manage my daily food intake, inform me of the calories and fats I was placing into my body, and educated me on the need foods needed from the food pyramid. My son even loved placing the items we ate into the system to look at “our numbers” (he it calls that).
A dietary assessment method is a critical component in many aspects of nutritional epidemiology such as evaluating energy and nutrient intake in free-living individuals (Taren, et al., 2002). The purpose of dietary assessment data collection is to establish the causal associations between diet and disease aetiology (Jain, et al., 1996). However, it is very difficult to measure exactly how much food people eat or to determine the nutrient content of the diet (Wild, et al., 2001). Therefore, the valid and precise techniques are required to estimate accurate and detailed information on food and nutrient intake as well as eating patterns for identification of the dietary influence on health and disease (Bingham, et al.,1994).
One strength I saw myself, as having when I enter college is being able to understand and critical think about a essay/article that I have read. However, after taking English 101, I have now learned that this is a strength of mine as well as a weakness.
Since we have been learning about nutrition in class, our task was to record a food log. Nutrition requires a well-balanced diet containing nutrient and vitamins like amino acids and fatty acids. Over the past seven days I have been recording and have been looking very carefully at my intake of nutrients, minerals, vitamins, and fats. In our task, the objective was to record the basic foods we ate during the period of seven, but it did not require recording every single detail or our intake of food. Doing this food log was a pain and it was disturbing because I never wrote about what I ate like breakfast, lunch, dinner, or additional meals. I found this food log useful because it helped me learn what I can change in my intake of foods to make my diet healthy and to see what about my diet is affecting me from being healthy because I could affect me in the future.
One of the reason’s why I felt my nutrition needed to changes is because nutrition is a huge part of a healthy lifestyle, the way that we eat and what foods we consume can have a huge impact on our everyday lives. Nutrition plays a huge role in multiple facets of a person’s life energy, health, skin, weight, confidence, and more making having a good control on your eating habits extremely important. How we eat over the years and what foods we routinely choose to eat can eventually have a lasting effect on use and what we consider to be most appealing and appetizing at any given moment. Having these craving and routine habits makes eating, diet, and nutrition both a behavior and a lifestyle choice that can be changed over time with help from the theories learned in this class.
As part of learning about nutrients and food, in health class, we kept a food diary. In this food diary we kept track of every thing we ate and then calculated the calories, carbohydrates, proteins, and fat amounts in each item that we consumed. Being able to see what all we have consumed allows us to know what we should be eating more of and what we are consuming too much of. I believe that this is a very good way to maintain a healthy and well-rounded diet.
Food is one of the necessities of life in order to survive. Everyone has different views on what to eat and different eating habits. People are so busy in their everyday life that they don’t keep track of what they eat on a daily basis. However, it is important to understand the role of nutrition. Nutrition and exercise are vital to maintain physical health. Proper nutrition is required by our body for energy, growth, maintenance, and repair (Grodner, Roth, & Walkingshw, 2012). Even the brain requires nutrients in order for a person to be intellectually healthy. Along with nutrition, exercise can be controlled by an individual. Exercise helps to strengthen bones and muscles, control weight, improves mental health and mood, reduces risk for cardiovascular disease, type II diabetes, and some cancers, and overall increases the chances of living longer (CDC). For this assignment, I kept a food journal by tracking what I ate and the amount of exercise on a daily basis on a food tracker for three weeks. The purpose of that was to analyze my diet and exercise in more depth in order to determine the amount of vitamins, minerals, fat, protein, carbohydrates, and calories I am eating daily. Based on the results, I made some modifications.
While I was tracking my eating for these three days, I began to learn about the benefits of the food that I am eating and the nourishment that they provide for my body. I had never realized how big of a role that the food that I eat plays in my everyday life. Eating has never been something that I really think about it is just something that I do. After I looking at the data of what I eat on Choose My Plate, I realized that my eating habits are far from balanced and that I needed to work on bringing my eating habits to a better balance. While there are a lot of things that I have been doing right, there are also many things that I can work on.
People is always asking: “Why is important to have a balanced diet? Why is necessary to have a balanced diet on a daily basis? And why do professionals tend to recommend a balanced diet?” The human being has essential needs to its existence: breathing, feeding, and keeping the body in constant movement. The majority of the people are aware of this, but they do not have a balance among these things and even more important they do not eat the adequate food to keep their body healthy. Food is one of the most important factors because it gives the energy the body needs daily. In other words, few words food is the fuel that provides glucose, which is carried to each cell of the body through the bloodstream. This process is extremely important and this is influenced by the type of food that each person consumes. A balanced diet is important for human beings, and makes reference to a good nutrition with regard to the food they eat; which contains macro nutrients that are carbohydrates, fats, and proteins; these provide energy and basic materials that the body uses to grow and stay healthy.
