Citizenship as one of the three mission mandates of 4-H Youth Development. Citizenship is a solid foundation for youth to acquire skills and understanding that will transform them into perceptive leaders. Teens experiences and perspectives are valued by 4-H as these characteristics along with adults partnering with teen bring value to our communities and leadership skill to our teens. These partnerships are accomplished by service opportunities that connect youth to caring adults and experiential education that enhances their understanding of the world and their role.
In the Tuff University’s longevity research study about the power of 4-H positive youth development indicate three characteristics—positive and sustained relationships between

According to Bourdeau, experiential learning is defined as “learning based on personal experiences or direct observation”1. The 4-H model of experiential learning is effective when youth experience an activity; share that experience with others; process the experience by determining common themes; generalize their experience as it relates to their lives; and apply what they learned to new situations2.
4-H Youth Development programs within the WVU Extension Service (WVUES) provide youth with multiple educational opportunities, furthermore the program recognizes youth as valued contributors and provides youth a voice in their 4-H activities. These experiences lead youth to develop independence, belonging, generosity, and mastery in a comprehensive way. The 4-H program allows for personal development that builds self-confidence, develops leadership, and strengthens values all while under the supervision of caring adults and positive role

Yearly, the teens support the 4-H through fundraisers and service projects, offer 4-H learning opportunities to youth through community events, assist with camps by being teen counselors, and during their meetings gain leadership insight through fun learning activities.
Experiential travel trips are an option to experience 4-H program in recent years in West Virginia. 4-H teens traveled to the Teen Tech Studio located in Columbus of Industry and Science (COSI) in Columbus, Ohio and completed a 3-D printing workshop as well as toured the science center. This unique experiential learning event allowed several of those teens to assist the STEM Ambassador in teaching 3D Printing Workshop during Older and Younger Residential 4-H
Citizenship, a virtue that many humans have, however not every person has the qualities that further them as a citizen within today’s society. I display citizenship by participating in a number of
Citizenship is the obligation each member of the NJHS faces to live up to, the democratic ideals given to each and every individual by the founders of their country or beliefs. As good citizens, we are bound to live up to the laws and guidelines of our community and improve not only our lives, but the lives of others. The NJHS strives to help improve the lives of those around us.
In conclusion, development and improvement in early youth include collaboration of inner procedures, supported by outer help and stimulation. Understanding the idea of human development will bolster my training in evaluations, mediations and surveys. While both physical and biological changes affect the child, I should have the capacity to recognize
For starters, the club's members are granted many opportunities to assist in planning 4-H county and regional events such as 4-H Recognition Night, 4-H Benefit Auction, and the 4-H Ice Cream Stand at the Franklin County Fair. Members are given various opportunities on county, regional, and state levels to expand their leadership skills, confidence, and public speaking skills.

4-H is the Washington State Extension Youth Program that gets kids involved in either animals, technology, cooking, sewing, photography, etc. Each of these groups have clubs within them. I am a part of the Washington State 4-H Dog Program. I am specifically President of the “D.O.G.S” dog club. We base our club off one mantra; head (managing and thinking), heart (relating and caring), hands (giving and working), and lastly health (being and living). 4-H encourages kids to do public presentations in front of judges, which teaches children how to speak with a confident voice. Also, 4-H holds “oral reasons” which is an event that teaches kids how to hold an opinion on something and explain their reasons for that opinion. But, the point is that
Research has shown that youth programs impart many benefits to Hispanic youth involved in positive youth development programs, including increased self-confidence and higher graduation rates from high school. Research also shows that youth involved in these programs are less likely to engage in destructive or risky behaviors, such alcohol and drug use. Because minority youth are less likely than other youth to participate in youth programs; a need exists to understand factors that influence Hispanic involvement in youth programs (Haines, 2010). A majority of professionals positively reported that there are benefits for youth of color and youth with disabilities in 4-H youth programs. Respondents indicated that the lack of information about 4-H youth programs was the biggest barrier to diversity-inclusive 4-H programs. As demographic populations shift, 4-H programs must continue to implement inclusive programs and assess current programs to ensure that historically marginalized groups are being encouraged to join (LaVergne,
The recent decline in young people’s participation in political and civic activities has resulted in a revival within the field of civic education. Formal education institutions are not the only ones concerned about youth engagement, however. A number of community agencies and nonprofits are active at the local level throughout the country. They are working to engage young people through a variety of methods, few of which have been researched to determine their effectiveness. One such community e...
One way to ensure a civically engaged population is to nurture and promote amongst youth and teenagers the value of participating in one’s community, with the hope that involvement will continue into adulthood. Most school districts in Arizona do not require students to volunteer as a graduation requirement. Those that do, necessitate a number of hours to be completed and logged individually; for example, Deer Valley Unified School District in Maricopa County requires eight hours of volunteering during a student’s senior year. Of course any opportunity for one to help society should be applauded – however, this particular process negates cooperative long-term attachment to a beneficial project and does not incorporate knowledge learned in class, or apply meaning in a real-life context. The implementation of Service-learning programs into public school curriculum would uphold useful skills associated with community involvement and citizenship, as well as address problems in real settings rather than do repetitious tasks in seclusion.
Erikson stated that the development of children between 5 to 12 years old mostly happen in school and they are using social interaction frequently. School is the place to train children to adapt to society and master their knowledge and skills which is necessary for life in the future. So children in this stage are trying their best to strengthen their muscle, sensory and physical skills in order to overcome all the challenges form the society. Children in this stage realise that they need to have some result in this society, they work very hard to get the distinction in their result, but they are also worry that they will fail. In this stage, if they get encourage for their hardworking, specially from parent, teacher, peers or neighbour, they will feel industrious, competence and belief in their skills. If they get too much negative feedback, they start to feel inferior and lose
Along with that the youth learn lessons that couldn’t be learned anywhere else. Like the importance of team-work, sportsmanship, toughness and competitiveness, which helps in the complacent world we live in(Golinkin, 617-618).

When children play sports, they learn teamwork. Since they play with a set of rules created by adults that must be strictly followed, the children must work together to figure out how to use these rules to their advantage in order to win the game. By doing this, children build a sense of fellowship, teamwork and eventual acomplishment when they win. They also learn that not everybody wins, so they mature by dealing with their defeat and instead finding a way to win next time. Other activities such as community service or Girl/Boy Scouts, not only build a sense of teamwork, but also a sense of acheivement. The main goal of community service and the scouts is to make your community better in some way, and to help those in need. Children learn that by these organized activities they are making a group of people or just one person happier, and that gives the child a sense of acomplishment. I personally was a Boy Scout, and to this day I am proud of it and I know that the activities I participated in and the skills I learnd at that age still help me to this
Experiential Learning is a powerful form of learning. As stated by Lewis and Williams “In its simplest form, experiential learning means learning from experience or learning by doing. Experiential education first immerses learners in an experience and then encourages reflection about the experience to develop new skills, new attitudes, or new ways of thinking.” (1994, p.5). Learning through experience is something that each one of us do in our daily lives, often on a subconscious level. Rather than reading, viewing or thinking of how to do something with experiential learning we can learn by doing. Traditional teaching or training may not always be the best way for all students in both the educational setting or corporate setting to learn. Often when you use reading a book, or listening to a lecture the
According to Dewey (1938) experiences can only be termed as educative if they lead to further intellectual and moral growth. In order for experience to be termed as educative, both the community and the individual have to benefit from the said experience. The experience has to contribute to growth in curiosity, sense of purpose, and initiative in the learner. He was of the view that traditional education was hierarchical and therefore undemocratic in nature. According to him, in order to produce well informed, thoughtful and democratic students, learners need to participate in all aspects of the school program and gain the experience. Eventually, a learner has to reflect on the experience ...
