Scenario:
A docking survey should be carried out twice within a 5 year period. The intermediate survey must be completed within 3 years. Preparation for dry dock begins after the ship sails from its previous one. A dry-dock list of new items is created with specification sheets describing individual jobs. These sheets are compiled into a dry dock file which some time before the due date of the docking is submitted to several dry docks for pricing.
As the ship was due in for routine maintenance, one of the main jobs during this maintenance for the electrical department was to replace the Impressed Current Cathodic Protection system. This system suppresses corrosion on the wetted surface of the hull using an arrangement of hull mounted anodes and reference electrodes connected to a control panel. (Cathelco, 2008)

The work required to be carried out during this Dry Docking period is first to bring the ship into the Dock and then drain the water. After this is done, the hull will be inspected for any damages. A Permit to Work will be signed for conducting the jobs and the dock crew will start to set up the scaffolding to begin the job on the anodes of the Impressed Current Cathodic Protection system. The job that is going to be carried out will be the replacement of the Impressed Current Cathodic Protection System. The anodes for this system will have to be removed and replaced with new ones using appropriate tools. The cofferdam bolts and lids will be removed and replaced along with the electrical connections. All this will have to be done within 2 days so that other jobs can be started.

...educe the chances of any delays occurring. There were a few problems when the scaffolding needed to be set up but this was quickly overcome with the help of more manpower. There were also few problems with the materials as the anodes that had to be replaced were a later model to the ones we had on the vessel but with good communication and team work between the Electricians and Contractors this task was tackled quickly and did not affect the overall job in any way.
Summarising the project as a whole regarding the amount of time it took, I would say that the job would have been completed more earlier if there was no problem with fitting the new anodes. However, this did not affect the overall time in any way as extra time was given for this task in advance in case such problems occurred.
To conclude, the job was done well without any problems and it was a success.

Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS) means systematic caring, inspecting, and servicing of military equipment to keep it in good condition and to prevent breakdowns. The operator of the vehicle mission is to be sure to perform PMCS each time he/she operate the vehicle. Always do the PMCS in the same order, so it gets to be a habit. As all the operators and mechanics are trained properly and qualified through adequate testes and examinations, they would be capable to consider about the risk that corrosion will be caused by salt water. Besides, following the authority regulations, they should also carry out any extra inspections specifically required according to the status of aircraft (eg: age, structural and functional properties etc) ensure the aging aircraft was not in risk or damages were made to the aircraft during the flight.
