For the most part, structured data refers to information with a high degree of organization, such that inclusion in a relational database is seamless and readily searchable by simple, straightforward search engine algorithms or other search operations; whereas unstructured data is essentially the opposite. The lack of structure makes compilation a time and energy-consuming task. It would be beneficial to a company across all business strata to find a mechanism of data analysis to reduce the costs unstructured data adds to the organization.

Typography plays a huge role in not only its basic function of communication, but also as a visual design element that can easily make or break a work. Knowing this, I strive to be very strong typographically. An artist that I take typographical inspiration from is Michael Bierut, who happens to be terrific with typography.
The Storify project added a component to the course that was very beneficial: the ability to collaborate with others to create a vivid and varied work of art. Through the project, I got to explore my own perception of my given topic- beauty- and the minds of many of my peers. Overall, the Storify project allowed me to learn more about the different ways people view beauty and look at and study art.

The use of hierarchical language or “vocabulary that designates status,” is prominently used by Bill Lumbergh when addressing employees like Peter. (Wood, 2015, p.241). Lumbergh’s need to flaunt his power, paired with his large ego is demonstrated in the way he communicates. Adapting his tone of voice to sound uninterested and unimpressed is one technique Bill uses to intimidate his subordinates. Throughout the film, Bill consistently resorts to selective listening which involves focusing on particular parts of the conversation and ignoring others.

Big data originated with web search companies that encountered problems with querying large amounts of both structured and unstructured data. With regard to its background, “big data came into being when web search companies developed ways to perform distributed computing on large data sets on computer clusters” Floyer (2014: 1). Big data then spread to enterprises due to their adoption of developing, processing and dissemination of data.
Written discourse differs in many aspects from spoken discourse. In written discourse, there is no "Phonological resources to help you structure the information"(86). Also, in written discourse, there is no "opportunity for the addressees to interrupt and ask for clarification"(86). That is only the written text has to be clear, with careful wording following grammatical structure in forming sentences. In spoken texts, there are no sentence boundaries, so intonation is very important. However, sentences are incomplete, and ambiguous because of the shared background between the participants.
