REFLECTION
I had learnt a lot of things in the way to build the kit for my demonstration for my teaching and learning process for Language Arts subject by using song in the primary ESL classroom during the PBS (School-Based Experience) and also for my presentation of my lesson plan in my class.
First and foremost, for the song, I am producing my own lyric of the song based on the topic “Look at Me” under the theme “World of Knowledge”. I produce the lyric of the song by using the simple words as it is for primary school’s children. Wickham (2013) stated that based on the pedagogical principle, the teachers have to consider the student’s proficiency level. Teachers need to choose songs and poetry which are sufficiently simple in terms of grammar and vocabulary for our young learners to be able to grasp what they are about. My song is entitled “My Body is a Beauty” that focusing on the body parts and we have to appreciate our body and always be healthy because our body is precious. I choose the music of this song from the song “Let It Go”, in the Disney’s movie entitled Frozen as I sure that it will capture the student’s attention towards this song as the movie become trending nowadays. Based on Wickham (2013), students should be aware, and should be able to talk about the fact that we are all attracted to rhythm and beat and young children respond readily and often without inhibitions. Songs have the added attraction of pitch variations.
In my lesson plan for song, I also plan and create out some teaching materials for the students in a teaching kit. For this lesson, I had search a video that suitable to give an overview to the children about the topic that they will learn on that day entitled “Repeat the parts of the Body”. The p...

...her, I have to work hard to be a good teacher in the future and to make sure that my teaching and learning process are effective to the children. I have to prepare a lot of teaching styles and activities during the teaching and learning process to become a good teacher and at the same time it will make my lesson fun and meaningful to the students. Besides that, as a future teacher also, I have to be creative in creating my lesson plan and make my teaching and learning process is fun and enjoyable to the students. For example, I have to create variations of activities in my lesson that can make the students become interested in something that I want to teach.
In a nutshell, from the experiences of the strength and the weaknesses I had found while making the kits will make me a better teacher in creating my lesson plan and also in teaching profession one fine day.
The classroom in video case 42 was made up of 12 English language learners. The students were learning U.S. History content vocabulary in small, collaborative, interactive groups. The teacher used visuals – words written on a white board, a graphic organizer of the concept definitions, and a Power Point presentation with pictures and simple definitions. The teacher provided background knowledge through the use of textbooks, so the children could be successful in future history classes. The teacher used songs to assist the auditory learners in the class as well as a video to further assist the visual learners to see the concepts from the lesson in context. All of these resources were culturally appropriate as English language learners often learn best when a lesson is developed through multiple strategies and with a variety of resources.
Select and identify TWO concepts presented in the video you find significant as an early educator and explain why you selected these concepts (7 descriptive/detailed sentences)
I try to add in the theme lesson plans an activity the child leads through being creative and with all sorts of materials available. I have observed when you allow a child to be hands on and leading the process they become more interested in the information, and excited to ask questions even to share with everyone what they made and how it fits with the lesson.
for them to learn. By creating it as a whole package, James can ask for any reasonable cost which will
The harmony of the group is perfectly shown in this song. When a person hears it for the first time it sounds like one person sings it. The song opens with hope, “Helplessly Hoping”, that even in despair, there is hope. The word choice in the song is evocative and elegant, but it can have different meanings. The words are full of mystery, and the alliteration can make one’s spirit uplifting. The song is a non-verbal dialogue between a guy who loves a girl, waiting for her, and wonders about her love for him. The guy is being her harlequin, who hovers close to her, so she could notice him. The guy sees the girl’s good qualities, and true and kind spirit she has. Spirit is considered something that flows in the air, so that is why he wished he could fly and grasp her.

...getting to inform the audience that they would be videoed. The helpers are proactive as they took the initiative to give assist to the audience which shows the enthusiasm and motivation in completing the task. With the used of the simple audiovisual video to show the step by step to the audience, it make is easy for them to follow conjunction with the help of the facilitators and helpers. In addition, the facilitator would ask the audience to raise the green indicator to show that they have finished a step before proceed to the next step. This is to ensure that everyone is on the same step and complete the activity at the same time. The downside in the implementation stage is that the time management needs to be improve as we have exceeded the given timing of fifteen about one to two minutes. This is cause by spending too much time in the first step of the activity.
Equipment and materials used in the classroom are vital tools used for learning inside of the classroom. Materials in a classroom are the smaller items such as books, puzzles, games and toys. These items are moved in and out of the classroom as needed to help children learn, explore and grow. Items are moved in and out of centers purposely by the teacher to allow children an opportunity to learn. An example of this could be the addition of a fire fighter outfit along with fire trucks...
Training sessions aim to develop one’s skills and knowledge on a particular topic, usually to benefit their job performance (Hubbard, 2004, p. 124). Preparation is the inevitably one of the first stages of training sessions. According to Polonsky and Waller (2004) “effective presentations, academic or business require preparation” (p. 432). This stage can be separated into three subcategories, forming, storming and norming. Yeung (2000) defines forming as when the team assembled and storming being when discussion increases amongst the group members (p.18). Lastly, the stage where the group begins to develop and construct their project is referred to as norming (Yeung, 2000, p. 18). This paper will focus the reflection of the preparation phase as a whole, from the recent percussion training session conducted by, James Gilmore, Tik Man Mok (“Henry”), Nguyen Duc Danh (“Daniel”) and myself, Courtney VanGent. Overall, the training session was deemed satisfactory; I found that the core strengths were found in the preparation sector and included, the regular meetings and that there were no conflicts amongst the group members. Although the training was successful, the evaluation forms completed by the participants’ suggested that some trainers lacked a suitable about of knowledge of the topic and that the group should have spent more time practicing. Recommendations will also be made throughout so that future-training sessions can be considered effective.
Being a teacher is not an easy task as many people could think. To be a teacher does not only imply to know the subject to be taught, it also includes being willing to constantly improve oneself integrally, as much as updating the resources and materials one uses in teaching. Reflecting and analyzing over and over again the best way to teach to learn and how to make students to extend what has been learned. The many hours spend in the classroom will never be enough to plan lessons, prepare materials, review pupils tasks and exams, as well, all the administrative requirements one has to cover for whatever institution we work. Besides all this a good teacher, a professional one, will have to find the time to keep preparing to improve oneself.
After finishing the teaching part of the lesson, I realized that not everything goes according to plan. For example, in our lesson plan, we had the explain portion detailed and outlined to teach students the technical terms of what they were seeing in the stations and other activities and make it a collaborative effort within groups to work with the vocabulary words. However, the teaching of the plan was not well executed. Also, I learned that teaching a topic does not have to be boring or just full of worksheets. Fun, engaging lab stations and interactive activities can fulfill the standards and requirements just as well, if not better, than basic worksheets and PowerPoint lectures. Lastly, I realized that lesson planning and teaching require a great deal of effort and work, but it is all worth it when a light bulb goes off in a students’ head and they learn something new and are excited to be learning and extend their science
Before the microteaching session, we have to produce an individual lesson plan that suits a topic within the KSSR English Language Curriculum Specification. For the individual task, I have chosen the topic “Safari Park” for year 3 KSSR students. The activities that I have planned are “Picture Viewing”, “Action Song” and “Missing Lyrics”. All of the activities are conducted to enhance the listening and speaking skills of the students as well as to improve their vocabulary. According to Willis (2008), by hearing a song, students can enhance their musical-rhythmic intelligent which is related to the responsiveness to listening to or performing music. Therefore, the activity of listening as well as singing the song can help the students with their listening skills. Other than that, music can trigger the students’ interest in learning since listening to music is fun and relaxing. Next, we are required to work in group and choose the best lesson plan for the micr...

...memory. Since this unit was taught, I purchased a "real" rain stick. Also, I plan to acquire authentic animal hide, jewelry, and moccasins. I would also like to visit our state museum as a field experience, where there is an extensive display of Native American villages and artifacts. During the building of the tee-pee, I would like to give the students more autonomy to see how they would manage without adult help. Without adult intrusion, the students would have greater opportunity to develop leadership and cooperation skills. In addition, I will focus more on integrating the concept of the similarities of between any Native American tribe and our classroom community. Our classroom is like a Native American tribe in that in order to build a thriving, safe, and healthy community, every individual has a job to do to and they must work together toward that goal.
In the process of completing this coursework, I have realised that every teacher should be all-rounded and equipped with adequate skills of educating others as well as self-learning. As a future educator, we need make sure that our knowledge is always up-to-date and applicable in the process of teaching and learning from time to time. With these skills, we will be able to improvise and improve the lesson and therefore boost the competency of pupils in the process of learning. In the process of planning a lesson, I have changed my perception on lesson planning from the student’s desk to the teacher’s desk. I have taken the responsibility as a teacher to plan a whole 60-minutes lesson with my group members. This coursework has given me an opportunity
