Information Explosion

Nowadays, we are always facing with the information explosions. Actually, information explosion is the large amount of available information that is produced everyday and it is published in our society by varieties of medium and in all fields of our life. From days to days, information explosion has led up to the information overload. Information overload can cause people whose suffers from it become stress, worried, tired, disappointed, less ability to concentrate, feels overwhelmed and overburdened, and lessen the people productivity. University of California at Berkeley’s School of Information has made researched about information explosion. According to them, human has produced more information in the last 30 years than in all previous 5,000 years. They suppose that the human total knowledge has double every two to three years. Then, the researchers believe that the knowledge wills double every year. So that, by expanding of the data, the process of managing information becomes more difficult. It is so difficult for us to make a decision because there’s so much information that make us confused and we do not knew what to do. People work efficiency also reduced that may affect to their personal health and family life.

Information explosion also related with increasing of the books, scientific and technical publications and increasing of amount of journal articles. Ever increasing of amount of information becoming available, making more difficult of scientist, business person and administrator to value or search what is relevant to him. As new technology comes available the information explosion will gain more momentum, which is going to cause more information seekers to become overloaded, unless information literacy skills are brought back into the information seeking process. In addition, information explosion has given many effects on individuals, organization, society, and country either positive or negative effects. In the ways to find the information of information explosion, maybe somebody will face with the difficulty of valuing the good information to be taken for the assignment. By the way, we need to take the advantage of this situation to make an improvement of our ability in produce useful information for the next generation.
