It is the job of a supervisor in the Army to preserve the force in many different ways. One of those is with The Army Body Fat Composition Program. Every soldier in the Army follows the same weight standards and goes into the program if they are overweight. Not many people know about Army has a program in place for soldiers who do not meet the weight and height requirements. . As we are in different time it is harder to recruit for the Army. It was said by Stew Smith (n.d.), “A shocking 20 percent of all male recruits and 40 percent of female recruits are too heavy to enter into the military ranks.” As a new supervisor it is your job to know about the Army’s overweight program. If a new supervisor does not know the process, it can be really bad for him and the soldier that is over weight. In the Army every soldier will take at least four physical fitness tests a year. After each physical fitness test you will be weighed. Usually right after the physical fitness test you will get your height and weight. The taller you are the more you can weigh. Age is another a factor that can affect how much you can weigh. So if you meet your height and weight standards you do not need to go into the Army’s over weight program. Though if you go over your allotted weight you have to be tapped. Meaning you take the measurement of the neck and abdomen for males and the neck, abdomen, and buttocks for females. Then you take the two or three measurements and get the percentage. If the percentage is over the soldiers allotted amount he or she is now over weight and has to go into the program. As a supervisor you need to know where to tape and how to get the percentage because this is a very important event that can ruin a soldiers car... ... middle of paper ... ...he weekly weight loss standards and also give more than a 180 days to meet the requirements. All in all it is the supervisors main job to track the soldiers weight accurately and frequently threw the 180 days. The Army is in a draw down and is only looking to keep the best soldiers it can. The Washington Post said “During the first 10 months of this year, the Army kicked out 1,625 soldiers for being out of shape, about 15 times the number discharged for that reason in 2007, the peak of wartime deployment cycles. (2012)” In the end it is the supervisors job to make sure his soldiers are meeting the standards of the Army. A supervisor should know all of the programs the Army has to offer. The overweight program should be at the top of a supervisors list. If a supervisor does not know the Army Body Fat Composition Program; it will not work and will be useless.
