Living in the world that consists of three thousand different types of mosquitoes is frightening. People got used to a daily routine of waking up and getting to their jobs, that many of them are so focused on their career and family that they do not even notice and pay much attention when they are getting bitten by mosquitoes. Unfortunately not many people were aware of the fact that not all insects are safe, many of mosquitoes transfer infections, but we were not concentrating on that since it was considered not a common issue. As a repercussion, people did not begin to react and notice that something wrong with them when Aedes mosquitoes began their attempt on ruining people’s social, physical and psychological lives by transferring a Zika virus to the once who are bitten. …show more content…
Despite the fact that the Zika virus infected as many as 4 million people in the Americas this year, and caused deaths it is still out in the world biting and hurting other people.
Nonetheless there is nothing we can do yet to cure this virus because there is no vaccine, furthermore there are no signs of vaccine being made at all. In order to fight the Zika virus one of the most important operations is to provide a certain amount of funds to laboratories. The only source of money that could be possible to use, is the budget that the government of the United States would contribute to laboratories, scientists, tests, expeditions and researches. However it comes as no surprise that the government, especially Republican Congress is in disfavor to spend more money on these investigations. It has long been known that the Republican Party doesn’t like spending money on public needs and involvement of the government. According to the article “Health Officials Urge Congress to Fund Zika Research” by Donald G. McNeil it says: “President Obama has asked for $1.8
billion, but the request is stalled in Congress, with Republicans suggesting that money previously allotted to the Ebola virus be used instead.” This means that the current president of the United States, Barack Obama asked Congress to allocate money to fight the Zika virus, but instead of fast and smooth process which everyone was expecting the Republican Congress does not want to provide money alternatively they are recommending to take out money from Ebola’s budget. This shows that the government is not eager to discover more about this virus by using public money, although in order to find a vaccine and save people from these horrible consequences we need to have a separate budget, which should be provided to scientists as we as to research and find ways to treat the Zika virus. In addition, according to the same article it says: “Health officials contend that most of those funds have already been committed to testing vaccines and to keeping up monitoring in Africa, because another Ebola outbreak could erupt at any time.” This means that most of the money that Ebola’s fund had to fight the virus has been spent already and yet there is no final vaccine or treatment that has been discovered. Therefore the money that was given to fight the Ebola virus is essential to act against this virus now in the interest of stopping it in the future. This shows that people have died this time from different virus and we are helpless by the reason of no vaccine or treatment, and until we will find money and before the cure will be available people will continue loosing the most important, their lives. Meanwhile the Zika virus has been around for many years in another part of the world, it never touched the United States, except this time, it got as close as to Florida State and already affected a lot of people especially mentally and in particular women. In the article “In Miami, Facing Risk of Zika With Resolve but Limited Resources” it says: “Summer is coming, and the Aedes aegypti will soon be buzzing around its usual haunts in the United States — mostly in the South and Southwest. But it is already here in South Florida, hatching from kiddie pools and rain-catching flowerpots, recycling containers and bottle caps.” This means that mosquitoes that spread the Zika virus has crossed the boundaries and entered into the United States. Florida and as a new and warmer season soon is approaching these insects will look for new victims and will damage someone’s life, especially in Florida that has enormous amounts of tourists from different states and countries of the world. This would affect people’s choices to go on vacation with their families because they will be fearful, especially pregnant women, who have many chances to have a baby born with microcephaly syndrome if an Aedes mosquito bites her. This shows that the United States’ citizens and tourists are under the risk to get bitten by these mosquitoes, where they have to live with the fear and doubt if everything is fine with their family members, and they want to be able to go to vacation that they dreamed of for the whole year. One of the most unpredictable and the worst consequences is that a pregnant women are the once who are under the high risk if they get bitten by Aedes mosquitoes. According to the article “Study of Zika Outbreak Estimates 1 in 100 Risk of Microcephaly” it says: “Because the Zika virus is carried largely by mosquitoes, it can infect broad sections of a population. If you apply a 1 percent risk to a large number of women, it’s still a large public health problem.” This means that the Zika virus is very dangerous and underestimated problem that we have faced with, because of the fact that copious amount of women may get infected and it will become part of their life, and part of our generation. Once a pregnant woman got infected by the Zika virus, it is considered as a high chance that the child that will be born will obtain a microcephaly syndrome, which is according to the same article is: “Is roughly one in 100 women infected in the first trimester of pregnancy developed a fetus with an abnormally small head and brain damage.” This means that the fetus’ head will be smaller than usually and will outgrow in years and eventually the brain may outgrow the head. This syndrome needs constant doctor’s diagnosis and surgeries which require an abundance of money and unfortunately not every family or single mom can afford it. Another problem is that when the child will be born, he or she will be considered abnormal in the society, and may even be so in the family, many parents may separate by cause of this issue, not every father or mother can survive through these uneasy issues. This shows that the Zika virus carries with it not only social problems, but also even worse, such as physical and mental dilemmas which have more serious effects on people’s lives. Despite the fact that mosquitoes are sucking our blood for which many people hate them. Aedes mosquitoes are much powerful and unfortunately we the people are the only creatures who can feel a special strength that they inherited by nature. Aedes mosquitoes are world’s spreading known Zika virus, in which a pregnant woman’s fetus might get infected and have abnormally small head for the rest of their lives as a consequence the brain is outgrowing the head and it carries deathly danger. This virus affects people’s social, mental as well as physical way of leaving and the only operation that can be done to stop it is the research through the use of money that the government has to provide.
In the article “When Mosquitoes Were Killers in America” by Lauren Tarshis, She makes the statement “Yet mosquitoes are far more than a nuisance.” What she means is that mosquitoes aren't a little bug that just sucks a little blood and can be annoying, but instead it uses all that and more. Mosquitoes have killed millions upon millions of people by spreading disease like malaria. An example of how she supports this claim is in the article, she says “ In this way, bite by itchy bite, 212 million people are infected with malaria every year” (Tarshis 13). And that is only a year with bug spray, shots, and all the other things that help stop mosquitoes. So when the U.S. government tried to save people from these murders little insects. So they
While it is relatively easy to control what happens around your home, it takes community effort to help curb West Nile on a city wide level. Help authories by reporting any dead birds that you see, see if your city/town has a mosquito control program that you can help with, or even get together with your neighborhood to clean the local park and remove mosquito breeding areas in public spaces.
From the article “6 Ways to Avoid Getting Bitten by a Zika Virus Mosquito, by Kelsey Kloss” it indicates there are precisely six steps. The first step is the consumer must buy a specific kind of mosquito repellent. “The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends products with active ingredients DEET, oil of lemon eucalyptus, picaridin, or IR 3535.” (Kloss, Kelsey 1). The second step is to apply the repellent on the surface of your body properly. The third step is to not wear revealing clothing; therefore, it will be more difficult for the mosquitoes to bite you since your skin isn’t exposed. The fourth step is to “prep your home” meaning mosquitoes tend to die in chilly environments for perhaps it’s in our best interest to keep our homes at a reasonable but frosty temperature. Mosquitoes also like areas that have shade and damp areas, for this reason, is that mosquitoes tend to breed in certain habitats with those characteristics, like swamps, jungles, and other humid areas. The fifth step is to exercise indoors, thus you’re not vulnerable. And the final step is to travel intelligently, obviously not traveling to infected
Now, Im going to focus on voting and Zika. First, Fair Vote, a company that leads the fight for electoral reform in the U.S., points out: "The right to vote is the foundation of any (system or country where leaders are chosen by votes). Yet most Americans do not (understand/make real/achieve) that we do not have an (in a way that agrees with or is related to the Constitution) protected right to vote. While there are changes to the U.S. Constitution that prohibit (unfair treatment based on skin color, age, etc.) based on race (15th), sex (19th) and age (26th), no
It's very helpful when doctors, especially ones as well educated as Dr. Sergio Cortes, explain imminent health threats in plain, everyday language that everyone can easily understand. Getting information out to the public regarding the Zika virus is vital; the article Find Out More About Zika Virus With Sergio Cortes, from his personal blog, gives people the tools they need to lessen their chances of contracting the virus. Since Zika is now definitely linked to microcephaly, a birth defect affecting infant’s development, it is imperative that pregnant women avoid contracting the Zika virus. The virus is not contagious; people cannot catch it from another person who has the virus, however, when a mosquito that stings a person who has the Zika
The thing about zika is that we can find a solution. A solution for zika is that scientist can do is find a solution that can kill zika. Once they find a vaccine that could prevent moms from their babies from being infected by zika. So if they find a vaccine that can kill zika then if zika stings they will die and over the time the zika virus will decrease. Although scientist say that there is no vaccine to prevent zika but I believe that if scientist actually put their minds to it they could find a cure to kill zika and prevent zika from spreading. But for now what we can do to prevent getting zika you can not leave water out for example don't leave water in a fountain or leave water in birdbaths, and when you're outside what you should use bug repellent and wear long sleeve shirts and
Parents around the world should and need to get the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella vaccine, which prevents kids from getting Measles, Mumps, or Rubella (MMR). The vaccine is given to babies between 12-15 months, and is permanent. Measles is a disease that typically causes fever, coughs, running nose, pink eye, and a distinctive rash which are all bad and all can be prevented if parents get their children vaccinated.
Zika virus is not serious for most people. In fact, most people show only mild
The Zika virus epidemic continues to endanger the lives of many, but the lives that are in danger may not be the ones you would expect.
Not only is the knowledge helpful to contain the Zika virus but it has also helped other viruses contained throughout the centuries without having that many deaths due to it. The knowledge gained has helped for a long time and will continue to help out throughout the more challenging problems that the world will have to face. All of history repeats itself in some type of way and so because of that people learn from history and try to face a new problem head on with a different mental mindset. History informs the present in many ways, and so that is how the Black Plague is informing people today on how to handle the problem of the Zika Virus today. Even though the virus has no cure yet people today will be able to help prevent all of the deaths due to the fact that no one wants something like the Black Death to ever happen again in
Obama has asked congress for a sum of 1.8 billion dollars in order to fund and help battle the Zika virus which has been spreading throughout Latin America from mosquitos. This virus has shown that it may affect the birth of babies and them being birth to abnormally small body parts. There was a similar case a year or two ago of when ebola came along, but Zika is not as serious and life threatening. People may have Zika and not know it, but it has mainly been a threat to women, pregnant women, and women who intend to become pregnant. There is also a fear of this virus being brought to the United States from the down south continent. Obama asks that from the 1.8 billion dollars from congress, that 828 million goes the centers for disease
The four year wait for the summer Olympics is finally over. The athletes and spectators are all ready to head to Brazil. The only thing that seems to be in the way is the recent outbreak of the zika virus. This virus seems to being running rampant throughout many of the South American countries including Brazil. The effects and spread of the virus is a concern for the athletes, spectators, and many others. The question raised by many is how to handle this situation with the Olympics only a few months away. The athletes have been training so hard over the last few years to get to this point and do not have any idea of the games will go on as scheduled. Also those who have made plans to go watch the Olympics now have to think and be cautious
Every year about 10 to 20 per cent of the population worldwide will be knocked flat by the flu virus. Should you get an annual flu jab and lower your chances? Dr Ian Barr, from the WHO Collaborating Centre for Reference and Research on Influenza, breaks down the risks and benefits.
The future, what do you think when you hear the word future. As you now enter the final two years of your high school education, the pressures of determining what career you wish to pursue now hang in the balance of every decision you make. These decisions seem like the most difficult questions you will ever have to answer but I would like to turn your attention further into your future. Imagine your first child has just been delivered, beaming with joy your now willing to do anything to protect them. Without hesitation you ensure your child is vaccinated against all the terrible diseases that could potentially harm them. Now imagine the person sitting next to you has also delivered their first child but unlike you they decide against vaccinating
Vaccines for what I could remember have been seen as a protection, as a safer, as a must. Now the problem here with vaccines is that some people believe vaccines should be injected to every child. A controversy became an issue to those who don’t agree, me. Furthermore, people can’t forget the fact that some vaccines are more harmful than beneficial and that most parents don’t know what is being inject into their children.
